Don't worry about it mike. You never know what happens in that.001 second while your squeezing that trigger I hit one right in the hip one time after holding it on the front shoulder. It happens. Not a damn thing you can do.

Rybo.
How's dirty harry kick??? Sounds like it was a good hunt would be pretty cool to shoot one with a handgun.

Ryan.

rybohunter 12-07-2009 02:13 PM

The kick ain't bad at all. Its a heavy gun & the scope too. I'm not a fan of recoil, but this thing is no problems to shoot. I don't think I'd bother to go to any of the bigger calibers though.
The main thing is to always have a rest. Helps a ton keeping it steady.

dliz 12-07-2009 04:21 PM

Rybo,

Nice doe with the pistol. I've always wanted to shoot one with a pistol. I own a Colt Anaconda stainless with an 8" barrel and red dot scope. My gun is also heavy which helps minimize the kick.

Mike, sorry to hear about the doe. Things like that happen.

Dave

MOhunter46 12-08-2009 07:03 AM

Nice doe Rybo! Killing one with a pistol would be kinda neat, something i may have to try one day. Mike, sorry about the doe, i know how you feel.

BTBowhunter 12-10-2009 09:46 AM

Hey guys, just stopping by to congratulate you on holding the lead. Best of luck finishing out as number 1. It's time someone sent the horses to the glue factory:wink:

KCMO Cityboy 12-10-2009 10:43 AM

Hey guys, just a quick post to let you know I'm heading down to Texas this evening to hunt with the bro. I'll probably see more rattlesnake and hogs than deer, but if it moves and is legal I'll be taking shots! Will be heading back on Monday. Talk to you guys later. I'm impressed that the lead has held on for a while!

dliz 12-10-2009 12:31 PM

Clay,

Have a great trip and be safe. Good luck and I hope you see one to arrow.

Dave

my7pointmonster 12-10-2009 03:18 PM

Good luck buddy. I hope to see you sitting behind one!

So dave any luck yet with the rifle? I'm kinda excited for late season because I got a new spot.

Ryan.

dliz 12-12-2009 04:47 AM

Ryan,

We had a good time last friday. My friends little guy who is 10 years old shot his first deer. It was small doe. I think his father was more excited than he was. It doesnt get much better than getting out with family and friends, having success and enjoying a day.

In the next couple of weeks Im going to start my scouting to whats left over. Have a couple of new areas I want to scout. We think there might be one or two large bucks that are going to make it through. We are hoping!!!

Dave

my7pointmonster 12-12-2009 07:15 AM

That's awesome, there's nothing like killing that first one.

Ryan.

KCMO Cityboy 12-15-2009 10:07 AM

Well, I had a great time hunting with my brother last weekend but didn't come home with anything that would give our team some points. I hope I can do yearly treks with him in the future. We have already set plans in place for an exciting elk hunt during the last week of September '10 in Colorado. Will need to start conditioning now in preparation of that high altitude! Promised my wife to put the bow away - at least until after Christmas. She was starting to give me 'the look'.

my7pointmonster 12-16-2009 11:20 AM

Haha. I liked that "the look" part. Did you see anything while you were away? Any good stories or anything?

Ryan.

pjhunts 12-16-2009 05:34 PM

finally, i get to go bowhunting again this weekend, im getting to where i really hate gun season. Should be able to get out for a few morning hunts and one evening hunt this weekend. We still have 20 acres of corn to get cut(who would have ever guessed that we'd be shelling corn in late december, uhhhg) and my firewood pile is all but completely gone so I do have a few chores to tend to, but will definitely MAKE time to go hunting. I would really like to get a few does shot and hopefully will get a chance at another good buck. Still hoping for cold and snow! Good luck

dliz 12-16-2009 06:29 PM

Clay,

Sounds like you had a good trip to Texas. Just getting out with you brother is worth the trip. I love hunting with family and friends. On Friday were heading out to central pa for a late season pheasant hunting trip with family and friends. Its our third anual trip out their for the states late season stocking. We usually do pretty good. My two friends I grew up with have amazing bird dogs. Dave owns a German Short hair and Matt has 3 English setters. Hey guys, I recently bought a Canon GL2 and plan on doing some video. I have always wanted to try video taping a hunt.

PJ,

Wish I was still hunting with the Bow. In Pa we can only shoot one buck.

Guys if you get a chance check out this video I put on You Tube yesterday. Its a 3D animation of taking apart a Colt 1911. Its pretty cool. We did this about 2 years ago for a corporation we were started. Didn't work out. How about that voice!!!!!!

Take Care, Dave

pjhunts 12-21-2009 03:55 PM

slow weekend here. no deer seen while hunting but while leaving i did see a nice 8 (130 class) and another buck was with him . they were the same body size but he already shed his horns and had an arrow sticking out of his side. it was in the no kill zone, barely hangn in there. didn't seem to bother him a whole lot though. anybody else still trying? how long you all got left? we go to mid january here.

reds10ss 12-21-2009 04:11 PM

we have until the beginging of feb., im gonna try to get out a few more times

my7pointmonster 12-22-2009 03:34 PM

Our season comes back in after Christmas, i'll be hitting it hard hopefully in those last few days before I move.

Good luck to you guys who are going out though!! Man, we dont got much to chat about this time of the year, I've been going fox hunting a lot trying to get out as much as I can for that, And get the predator population in check, Hopefully in check on the low side ;)

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 12-22-2009 03:36 PM

Cool video, Dave. How long does a Video like that take to make?

Ryan.

dliz 12-22-2009 05:50 PM

Ryan,

We hand measured every part of the pistol. We used a program called 3dmax to create the 3D video. It was alot of work. Believe it or not a 3d artist from Russia help us crate the 3D video. I still keep in touch with him. He is a very good person.

Reds,

Good luck hunting. If you get a buck this time of the year it would be amazing.

Dave

KCMO Cityboy 12-23-2009 10:46 AM

Dave,
That's a cool video - the disassembly looks so easy, even a caveman can do it. Well illustrated, and that voice is fantastic! Hope you get a chance to video a hunt or two with that camera this season. Nothing beats having the right equipment. How was the pheasant hunting last week?
Ryan, the hunt in Texas was fun with some good stories, just not suitable for posting on the forum.
Merry Christmas guys. Hope you all have some good family time these next couple of weeks. The season is running short now, so I'll have to figure a time to slip out the back door for some hunting. The kids shouldn't notice that I'm gone. They'll be busy playing all their video games.

rybohunter 12-23-2009 01:05 PM

Really slick video there Dave!

Ryan you get many foxes? I plan on heading out myself tonight. 1st time out this year. I love hunting them, just never seem to get many chances to go. And I rarely call anything in, even though we have tons of them.

Merry Christmas guys! Have a safe & happy holiday.

dliz 12-24-2009 04:13 AM

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Chistmas and a Happy New Year.

Ohhh man, you don't even realize how badly I've wanted to hunt over in pittsburgh for foxes, or even on the way there on 22 like from altoona to pittsburgh, you don't even know how bad I've wanted to hunt there. We killed in the upper to mid 70's last year give or take a few, that's between the 4 of us accumulating over the season, this year we're not doing good at all I haven't been calling much in at all, we may need new spots or something, they just don't seem to be there how they were before. I always am as pumped for the opening night of fox season as much as I am the opening night of deer season. I usually spend all day just waiting for dark. Its so much fun too. I want to make more time to go but it doesn't seem to work out like that for me ever. Man I'm getting excited talking about it now, I wanna go make a few quick calls tonight before the christmas stuff.... Man!!

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 12-26-2009 11:24 PM

I guess when it rains it pours, I'm probablly single again, myself and my girlfriend dana just broke up, she said that she "found someone else" I guess that's what happens. I've decided to just cut my losses and turn tail. I move in 13 days. Just venting is all.

Ryan.

MOhunter46 12-27-2009 06:54 AM

Have you guys seen the score card, looks like boiler room scored on a buck! Congrats boiler! Guys, i think the fat lady is on the stage.

Ryan.

KCMO Cityboy 12-29-2009 10:31 AM

Boiler, way to go!!! Nice looking buck. I bet the other teams are packing it in right now.
Congratulations.

rybohunter 12-29-2009 01:16 PM

Wow, looks like we are going to dethrone the dark horses. Who'd have guessed.
This will make me a 2x HNI contest champ too.

reds10ss 12-29-2009 01:38 PM

Yep, i can see it now in my sig-The Bone Mafia, the NEW undisputed kings of archery.

pjhunts 01-01-2010 09:20 AM

well this is the week i drew a permit to hunt a special hunt area on public ground. you have to shoot a doe first then you may shoot a buck. So i braved the cold 7 degree weather this morning for 3 hours in the tree. I saw 2 right after day break then notta. Got down to leave and saw 2 more. the when i drove out of the park there was a group of 10-15 up feeding around. I knew where they were heading so I got up in front of them 100 yards or so and set up next to a tree and some briars. Scared 2 out when i went in, but 10 minutes later 2 more came in. a doe and fawn. They got about 20 yrds away or so and i drew back(which was a big success in itself because i think i tore my labrum tendon in my shoulder again!) and the doe spotted me but i didn't really have a good shot she did the bob and weave thing for a little while then hopped off a few steps, so i put my pin on her shoulder as she was walking and drilled her. It looked like someone through a bucket of blood agianst the snowy background when the arrow hit. she went about 80 yrs and went down. Only problem was she went back into the group of other deer and buggered them when she died, including a prety nice 8 pter. Am heading back later to try for a buck. Glad to get a nice fat dow though. i love this cold weather!

my7pointmonster 01-01-2010 09:26 AM

Congrats pj!!! Let's see some pics. I love harvesting them in the snow. Its so easy to track em and everything.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 01-01-2010 09:35 AM

Oh yeah. You got any pics?

Ryan.

KCMO Cityboy 01-01-2010 11:27 AM

Nice job PJ. What a thrill to see the group and then manage to position yourself wisely. Hope you get that buck.
It's freak'n cold here too and I will attempt to brave the elements tomorrow starting noontime to see if I can find a decent snow trail, then set up with my climber. If it seems like a decent spot I'll leave the climber and hit it again on Sunday morning. I'm nice and warm in my house right now, so it doesn't seem that bad! I really want to score some bonus points for the team right now. Only 2 weekends left:(

my7pointmonster 01-01-2010 11:50 AM

Good luck clay. Tomorrows my last day of work before I move so I may sneak out for a little on public ground. Idk yet.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 01-02-2010 12:01 PM

We Have a Serious Problem.....

Where are we going to put the crown or a trophy or something in our Avatar...... Damn.....

Ryan.

dliz 01-02-2010 02:58 PM

Yo PJ,

Congrats on the doe. That would be cool to get a crack at a buck this late in the season.

Ryan, we haven't won yet, there still is time for this other team. I do believe it would be tuff to get a 120 class buck this late.

Have a couple of trail cameras out, my friend got one really nice buck on his. It was a pretty nice 8, should be a really good buck next year.

Take care,

Dave

my7pointmonster 01-02-2010 03:27 PM

Ohh dang, I didn't know there was a team that was close I've just been going off of what was said here and haven't checked for ourselfs.

On a side note, todays my last day at work before I move. I'm kinda pumped for it but I have got seriously no idea where I'm gonna hunt when I get up there... Ironically I think I'm moving closer to you, dave.

Ryan.

KCMO Cityboy 01-02-2010 05:48 PM

Ryan, I hope the weather is decent for the move. Good luck.
Well, nothing this afternoon from me guys. Plenty of tracks in the snow. It's snowing right now so there should be about an inch of fresh cover. I think tomorrow the temps will actually go above 10 degrees! I'll hit it again in the morning. Will let you know if I see anything.
