Great work Dubbya! ANY turkey with a bow is an accomplishment!
I tried to do the same thing last weekend, but couldn't pull it off, I was pretty disapointented...
Had my dad with me (who doesn't archery hunt) with a jake at 25 yards and couldn't close the deal... I was pretty disapointed.... Really wanted to take that bird with him at my side...

SouthDakotahunter do you get another shot at turkey hunting this season or are you out of chances?
Well when I got home yesterday morning my mom was already out and just up the road about 400 yards or so. she told me she was working a bird with 3 hens and had to go. So I wait out side and listen for the shot and within 5 minutes after the phone call BOOM!!! one minute after that I get a phone call, and she blasted the bird she was pusuing. She had to call loud because of the wind and she said that this bird was mounting another hen when she called really loud and he goobled while doing the deed, then took off running right for my Mother, he was gobbling the whole way and she shot him on a dead run right sreight at her 12 yards. 10 1/2 inch beard, 23 1/2 pounds, 15/16 inch spurs.

The season actually runs for several more weeks. The issue I run into is that the weekends really start to get busy (I've got a wedding, some birthday parties, tickets to the Sox/Twins game, sister is graduating, etc.).... Planning on getting out this weekend too (at least Sat.)... We'll see how it goes, may be able to sneak out another hunt or two. Kinda stuck with just the weekends at this point since the area I'm hunting is a couple of hours away...
Good luck everyone!

Well fellas i must apologize for my lack of brains... Our computer at home took a big dump so I didn't have a chance to check in in time. Hope you all have a great season though.

Anybody having any luck? I took the pops out again this morning and he filled his NR Oklahoma tag. He made a great shot as well. He only had about a 6" beard, but a great hunt none the less.

I've been out a couple of weekends, weather has just been brutal here this year - 2 seperate snow storms dropping a foot a piece...
First weekend I should have had a jake, but couldn't close the deal...
Last time I was out, I took out the gun after the morning hunt and filled my gun tag in less than an hour, then went back to archery hunting. Amazing how much easier it is with a gun!

I’ll agree that it hasn’t been the liveliest thread in the contest forum but after taking a look at the number of posts on other team threads, I don’t think we are that abnormal…
As an example - we have 59 posts – some of the other teams numbers are 40, 39, 54, 67, 21, 61 (granted there are many that are a fair amt higher too – but we are in the same ballpark)…. Point is, maybe the teams should be larger or something else can be done to help promote comradery?? Cause an active team forum is certainly a lot of fun!
My Season ended last weekend... Gave it a good shot, birds were awefully jumpy and just didn't want to cooperate. Should have had a bird early season, but I guess that why it's called hunting...
