Just so you guys know...

I have a secret weapon on the way.

It should be here by this weekend.

I hear tell that it will be the key to my success this spring.

Kyle, you know what I'm talkin' 'bout. ;)

Are we ever gonna come up with a name and a captain? Or should we just roll with what we have?

Anyone creative with Avatars for the team?

RE: the Great team 8 thread

The great team 8 is pretty good. Anyone else have ideas throw them out. As far as captains, does not matter to me. Anyone interested?

I'll PM elkslayer once we get a name picked for the avatar.

Name and captain doesn't matter much to me.

I'm just goin' with the flow.

Oh by the way, for those of you who missed it...

The secret weapon arrived earlier this week. ;)

As I opened the box a bright light shined from within.

A disembodied voice announced the arrival of "The greatest turkey slaying machine in existance."

If you're still confused...

(I traded my Allegiance for a Trykon.)

Traitor, I thought you were a Bowtech guy.

I'm gonna be working on my secret weapon soon. A gobbler with a fan I can raise and lower. Hunsucker and those guys use one on their dvd, and the big boys really attack that thing. Gonna see if it works in my woods.

I love it. I haven't felt even the slightest regret from the trade. The draw is a bit different, but smooth once you get used to it.

Kyle is also shooting the Trykon.

So did we ever come up with a name for this group? What about a Captain, do we need one for this contest?

Kyle your runnin this thing. Set us straight, looks like we need some guidance.:)

By the way anybody need a new turkey gun? I won the GUN OF THE YEARat our Banquet a few weeks ago. It would be great for those Gobblers that hang up just out of range. Like 300 yards. I won a Weatherby Rifle, chambered in 300 Weatherby Magnum. It has a Gold engraved Magazine cover.

I will really never use it and want to trade for a TC Pro Hunter Muzzleloader.

I thought we were running with The Great Team 8?

Kyle and I talked about it the other evening, and if you guys want I'll be captain. I've been captain several times previously and have no problem doing it again.

Up to y'all.

I was out at my property yesterday and saw a big group of hens hunting for acorns. They were in the area where I found the roost trees last week. I think there were 12 or 13 in the flock. I saw a group of gobblers and jakes a couple of weeks ago. Things are looking good!!

Thats good news JM. I did a lot of walking around/Driving around last week because I had spring break. I think the turkeys here are starting to break up into smaller flocks again. Anyone else noticed this? I've seen the same flock of 8 Longbeards in the same field almost everyday, I'm sure they'll change their pattern but it's looking good over my way too! Anyone else scouting yet?

I just got my IL Non-RES Tag in the mail today. I drew the 4th week, May 1-7. I should still be getting my IL landowners tag too. It will be good for the entire season, April 14-May 15.

MO I can buy over the counter anytime.

Thats a good thing, JM.

And if I had a ML, I would think about trading it.

A local gunshop might be interested

I made up my secret weapon today.

I took an old Jake decoy and cut off his tail. Then I put and old jake fan I had laying around and put it on a hinge. I screwed the hinge to a board and put the board inside the decoy. I have fishing line run thru his neck to raise and lower the fan.

I saw this on Hunsuckers HB S.1 Video and the big gobblers tear them up. Gonna sse how it works on my place.

And to think I was about to shell out $70 for a B-Mobile in a couple weeks. Good lookin' out, bud. I have a project now. ;)

Hows the board attached inside the decoy?

I kinda ruffly shaped a piece of 1/2" plywood to the inside of the decoy and used short wood screws thru the outside of it in a couple placesto hold it in place.

OK, I guess I'll save us from the bottom of the page.:D

Anybody hearing any gobbling yet? I was gonna go listen tomorrow morning, but a guy wants to look at a car I have for sale. Guess I better see if I can sell it. It has been warm here the last 2 days and I thought they might be getting in the mood after the nasty weather left.

The turkeys were gobblin in the snow this morning on my property. I heard 4 or 5 fly down and there were at laest 3 others in different locations gobblin.

I am really pumped now.

Got my new arrows (FMJ's)...Bow is shootin' well.

Drove around looking for turkeys today, no luck, sort of crappy. Have school off until Monday. I'll be on the lookout.

Whats the good word?

Turkeys have been gobblin like crazy around here. But the hens are running to them too. That will make things difficult.[:@]

Well guys my season opens up on Monday. I am going there tomorrow morning and see what the birds are doing. And then hopefully roost em in the evening. I have been there the last 3 weekends and they haven't done the same thing twice yet.

Hopefullycome Monday they will feel like responding to my calls and dekes. Because I have no idea where they are going after they fly down. They have been roosetd in the same area twice, but headed 2 totally different directions after they hit the ground.

Tuesday, April 15th - No birds.

Wednesday, April 16th - Bird hit [low and forward]; not recovered.

Thursday, April 17th - Bird missed.

So far every bird I've called to has come in. I just can't close the deal.

Washington Hunter 04-17-2008 12:12 PM

RE: the Great team 8 thread

The miss was weird.

I found a Guillotine left over from last season and took it out. I released as he gobbled. So he sort of zigged when the arrow zagged. I swear I cut hairs off the top of his noggin' though.

Washington Hunter 04-17-2008 09:01 PM

RE: the Great team 8 thread

I'll probably head out again in the morning, if my paycheck is deposited in my account at midnight. Otherwise I won't have the gas to make the trip.

No clue if I bumped that bird out of the area for a bit or not, but we'll see. There are more, I'm sure. Wednesday morning I had a half dozen+ birds gobbling in the same area. This morning only the one. We'll see.

MN/Kyle 04-18-2008 10:03 AM

Didn't make it out this morning. Money wasn't deposited until 8AM.

I doubt I'll go back out again until Monday. I'll let the weekend warriors have their fill and hope they don't spook the birds too bad.

jmbuckhunter 04-18-2008 11:10 AM

RE: the Great team 8 thread

I have gotten 0 birds to come in yet. They are with hens big time. I will be out there this weekend Saturday and Sunday. It is supposed to rain all day today and tonight too. Then stop in the morning. That might keep the hens guarding their nests. And make a few gobblers lonely. I am gonna get as close as I can while they are still on the roost. Maybe that way I won't have to try and call them to me.
