Does in the contest

This is just an idea for the contest. Since I'd bet that most of us hunt where management by taking does is an important part of our responsibility as hunters, maybe we should allow some points for a doe. I've seen this in other online contests

My though would be that only oneDOE counts. No points for button bucks and we give it some small point total, say 25 points or something like that. It would allow pointsfor guys doing the right thing and a team who takes a fair share of does would be recognized for doing so.

That is a great idea, I might get some points this year then. :D

I'm not sure how this would go over but you might give more than one choice on your poll.;)

Lol, I would have voted yes, but there's no option for me on the poll.

Fixed!
Hit the wrong key while typing and posted before it was done!

I'm not saying it's a good or bad idea but I think you should ask Rob as he is the one who has to keep track of all the points. It's already a lot of work to maintain and update the contest.

Carpmaster 08-21-2008 07:37 PM

RE: Does in the contest

That would make Rob's work that much harder....probably exceeding PITA status!

This would be a good idea for someone like "Buck Magnet" who will most likely kill a doe that will score higher than his entered buck!
;):D

I would like to see a +25 point rating for any buck killed with traditional gear.
:)

I second that motion. Add another +25 points for any injuries occured while recovering said deer;)

How about fawns with an extra bonus for spots?

RE: Does in the contest

I'm not a fan of the idea as I haven't been in the past. I know it's good sound management and I'll be doing my part in several units here in PA this year but,

The scores are based on inches, not points. So how do we add doe points to antler inches?

Let's say a team takes does, 10 for 10 guys. That would be 250 additional points or inches for that team. Now let's say 6 of the guys shoot 100" deer. They would have 850"s.

Now, let's say another team shoots 849" of antler on their team but because of tag allowances, laws or herd dynamics don't shoot does.

I don't find it honestly fair that team would get beat in a buck contest to doe numbers.

Again, doe management is good sound practice but I find it difficult to measure does. ;)

Wouldn't help me at all, no doe hunting on my property again this year, not enough of them on the property when the neighbors whack the crap out of them. Next year though...

Matt shoots one big buck and his already huge head gets that much bigger :D

I'd only be in favor of it if it was set up that if you took a doe and received 25 points, that is your entry and if you got a buck later, too bad. Then there is no having to go back and add or a team with 10 spikes and 10 does beating out another team that had a couple of bucks.

Yah and the Guys in Earn-a-Buck places probably love that Idea!

No Does if ya wanna shoot does go ahead and shoot'em..and then tell us how many you shot. It's just like playing a 7000 yard course from the front tees and telling everyone how ya shot 2 over.

This is a buck contest! It was when ya signed up and it still is ! (is this where I put the smiley so people think I'm jokin???) winky winky

It seems like the idea is getting a lukewarm reception at best.
If it doesnt have a great deal of support ( and it aint lookin that way) it's probably not worth the extra work for Rob

Besides, he's giving us an awful lot of his time now so I no longer support the idea simply out of respect for hisunselfish efforts here

I think it's a good idea but, if you entered a doe, you shouldn't be able to enter a buck later.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE ANTLERS ON A DOE?

THIS CONTEST IS ABOUT INCHES OF ANTLER!!

Maybe we ought to change the name of the contest, then.:)

I'm not for or against it.....but if it was going to be implemented, fairly...it would have needed to be done before teams were picked. That way....the guys in one tag states could have been separated.

The big blowback you're gonna get is from people who don't give a rat's ass about shooting a doe......whether that's needed in their area or not. It's just a fact. They're not gonna shoot 'em....and they don't wanna see YOU get any points for shooting one, either.

Ken/WV 08-22-2008 02:43 PM

RE: Does in the contest

Definetly think they should include does...I've been a part of other contest where they did so and it's fun when someone takes a doe and posts up the pics and gets some points for his/her team.

I'm all for one doe = 15 or 25 points

It wouldn't matter if only one doe was allowed....

Of course it would.

One doe for each team member.

How can that not matter.....when we're adding inches of antler..........(____) points for a doe....and you only have one tag?

Look at what I copied from your quote ....... I stick to it NOT mattering ....unless you are talking about 1 tag, buck OR doe ...

Translation - If you round up all the guys in one tag states.....let's say (for the ease of this exercise) you had 44. So.....you simply put those guys on separate teams (assuming you have 44 total teams).....and everythign is "fair", then.

So....what I said makes perfect sense.;)

So by ONE tag, you mean they can shoot a buck OR doe? Or did you mean only ONE doe tag?
