RE: Official Team 1 Thread
Tons of action this wekend! Called/rattled a few bucks in. One came on a trot from about 300-400 yards away! Havent taken a shot at anything yet, but I'm hopeful for tomorrow. The bucks are really chasing now. I was seeing activity all day on Sunday.

RE: Official Team 1 Thread
Well, got some news today, one of the three deer I had targeted before the season, has possibly been shot, guts.....not recovered, probably in the 150 range with a nice drop tine[:o]
On the flip side, I have been out in the woods over the last 3 days all day sunday, all day monday, and a 2 hour break this morning (it was freaking 12 degree out, hand warmers only do so much) just trying to get a glimpse of that big 9 pointer, pounding his bedding area edge hard, well talked to a buddy that lives about 3 miles from where i hunt, and the last 2 nites he has had a big 9 pointer at his bird feeder.....[:@] pretty sure it is the same buck, he confirmed all my identifiers. on the good side it is in the city limits, on the bad side if he decides to come back it is across a couple highways.... Been a strange few days, been seeing alot of bucks but nothing older than 2 1/2 year olds, the bucks are roaming but the does are not receptive, but no sightings of anything older, find it hard to believe that all the bigger deer have left the area, almost like the older deer are just holding tight till the does are ready to go? dunno......running out of vacation, and gun season is just around the corner then all the deer in the area get pounded....... |

Sounds like things are heating up guys...
I was in a spot in NY Sunday PM... had a big 6 or small 8 chasing a doe all around us. No shots. Grunting and panting... very cool. We don't get to see that too much around here. Went to my new NY spot Monday PM... had 6 come in... all does. I shot at one and shot right over her back!!!! :) ]ust the way my season has been going. Went back to the same spot last night and didn't see anything... |

RE: Official Team 1 Thread
Well, no bucks today, coulda taken a chip shot (9 yards?) at a small 7 pointer, but with a forecast of rain by 1pm for today, and not seeing many deer this morning, I was watching a doe and fawn for about a half an hour, and when they started working my way, I decided that if they passed through on the trail under the stand I would try to harvest the doe.
Well as fate would have it, they did (14 yards) and I took the shot on the doe. Thought it looked good, she ran 25-30 yards the way she came, stopped, looked around, and started walking through some brush (still under 30 yards) and stopped, looking around. Starting to get worried at this point, I could see the side opposite of the shot, but no blood. Finally she looked away long enough that I could get the binoculars up on her, saw the exit hole, right behind her front shoulder, good sized hole, but no blood.....what the...????? She stood there for a several minutes, then kinda hunched up and staggered a little bit, that is good, but still didn't see any blood coming out of the wound. She walks through the brush another 3-4 yards into the clearing and stands there looking around, then beds up. She lays there panting for about 10-15 minutes. Tries to get up once, can't do it, and shortly there after expires. First picture is of the doe from the stand, second picture is of me and the doe (I went home and changed, and got some help to drag her out, thanks dad, and the stand is in the tree to the right of me.) Unless I totally flubbed the shot, she must have taken a step at the point of the shot, took her through the front of the stomach, liver and clipped the spleen, slight quartering away shot. Finally got the new bow broke in........;) ![]() ![]() |

forgto to tell you guys the updates. oh wait there isn't any.our rifle season opened satur. and being dedicated to our team like i am i have been taking my bow. oh i dont really like to rifle hunt anymore.. i did debate it although i knew if i took my gun the buck i want would come into bow range and i would have to shoot him and would not be able to enter him.
Plus i'm still looking for my first buck kill with my bow. |
