RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Congrats to both mulie and rammer. Man you guys are cookin'! I can't wait to get out tothe 40 acres that supposedly I'm the only one who has permission to hunt it. I leave it alone til rut and post rut. Come on November!
I really should be calling the guy who has 800 acres and gave me a verbal invitation to hunt it. Oh, then there's another 55 acres same deal too. Here I am with all thisaccess and not taking advantage of it while people are stuck on public land. Know what, I think I just gave myself the inspiration to give them land owners a call. |

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
I just got in from my morning hunt. It finally stopped raining after 3 days, and it was 38 degrees this morning. I had a 145-150 class 5x5 about 150 yards away in the fog this morning right away, then I had 3 does and 2 fawns right under my stand for about a half hour. Then I saw 2 other bucks out milling around, one was about a 135" the other was probably a 140" deer. It took alot of will power not to whack a doe this morning, I told myself that I'm not whackin a doe from this stand till I arrow my buck. Its in a prime location and I'm avoiding making any unnecessary ruckus'es in there till a buck is down. All in all I saw around 20 deer this morning. Can't wait for tomorrow morning!

Right on guys, great work Mulie on the whitetail and Rammer on the speed goats. Not a lot of time to get online lately but checking in when I can. My whitetail and elk seasons open back up Friday. I've been bear hunting and grouse hunting a little with my sons and getting the home ready for winter during this off week.

RE: Official Team Deacons of Death Thread (23)
Hey way to go Mulie, way to get us on the board.
Rammer nice job on the antelope. Now that the ice has been broken we're going to be up near the top in no time, 22 series You must be chomping at the bit to get out and knock one down. Man it has been incredibly slow where I am hunting. There is so much corn up, plus all the leaves on the trees don't help either and it's been pretty wet as well, it's rained pretty much all day today. We need some cool dry weather to get things going and to get rid of the bugs, the gnats have been just terrible. Oh well, the best hunting is still to come. Well, good luck everyone and hang in there 22, the 18th will be here before you know it. |

RE: Official Team 23 Thread
22 series - That looks like a shooter there! Goodluck with him!
I had a bad thing happen tonite: Its been raining here non-stop for a few days now, at 3 I decided to go sit for the evening. I found out when I sat down on my ladder stand that my waterproof hunting clothes were no longer waterproof. I decided I was tuff enough to handle it so I decided to stay on stand. I was only on stand for about 15 minutes when I had a doe and 2 fawns come by at 20 yards going into the corn field. That got me motivated and I was ready for the hunt now! An hour goes by with no activity other than some pheasants, then deer start meandering around the edge of the corn field about 100 yards away. Nothing comes close to my stand for another hour or so, then another 3 does come by, its taking alot of restraint for me not to shoot one. I was ready to get out of the stand and warm up. Right at dark the big buck I've been watchin in this area steps out of the creek bottom about 150 yards from me. He starts feeding slowly on some grass going directly away from me. I decide its now or never, so I pick up my rattling antlers and clash 'em together. His head pops up and looks my way, I rattled them for about 10 seconds and here he comes right at my deer at a trot. I set my antlers down and grab the Mathews, when he is about 30 yards away he is behind a bush so I come to full draw. He stops in my shooting lane perfect without me having to stop him at 24 yards. I rest my 20 yard pin for a high double lung shot, just as I start to squeeze my trigger on the release a deer huffs from behind me an stomps the ground. He bolts just as I was ready to release. I slowly let down and he is standing about 45 yards away trying to figure out what jus thappened. I was as bewildered as he was, come to find out when I rattled 6 does came out of the corn field behind me and came running to the horns and the one was standing 6 yards from my ladder stomping at me now and huffing. The buck slowly moves off and out of sight, and now I am definately ready to kill a doe, I had one in mind specifically now at this point. I held back and didn't shoot her though. Now for the bad news. The buck is a solid 170" main frame 5x5 with a little bit of junk on his head gear. This is the same buck that I grazed an arrow over his back last fall during the rut, about 200 yards away from where I am sitting in my other stand. The good news is, he never winded me, saw me, or knew what the doe was mad about. I'm going to give that stand a break now for a while, and when the wind is right I will be back! Sorry for being long winded, I got the big buck fever now! |
