Nice Buck-again. I had a Doe come out at 25 yds about 4:30 yesterday (1st deer from stand this year) & MISSED. She jumped &ran to MY LADDER STAND & stood right below me-THEN, I was glad I missed-it was a Button Buck. I always try & check but saw nothing until he was under me. Then he walks back & starts licking the brush where I had layed a scent trail-he hung around for about 15 min. AFTER the shot.
Anyway-no ANTLERS yet & I won't get out b/4 Thursday.

Good looking buck bbm! Congratulations.

I am back from my trip to MN and returned empty handed, we did get some nice tans. Our temps were 72, 74, 75, 68 and 60 for the five days we hunted. Deer movement was late and it didn't seem like the big boys were up and about too much during daylight. I seen a total of7 bucks or sowith 3 being shooters, but couldn't get anything in range. The closest was about 50yds. I did shoot a doe before we left on a doe only federal land hunt though.

I shot a 7/8pt this morning, I am going to have to see how to score it. The main beam is broke off after the G3. It is nothing huge, but I am satisfied with it. Hopefully I can post some pics later.

Good luck everyone,

Chris

Thanks guys, I should have some pics up in a couple of hours (I am pretty computer slow). So hopefully I will post some pics and a story to go with it. Like I said nothing huge I would guess a score of about 65-70.

Chris

Well if all goes correct here are the story and pics.

Got out this morning and had action right away in a light misting rain, I was pulling my bow up and had to freeze due to a deer that was waltzing in. It was still dark and I couldn't see it, but it sounded like it came within 25yds and walked away. Right as day was breaking I had three does that took their time browsing on by, They were within range for about a half hour. I couldn't believe there wasn't a buck harassing them.

About 7:25am I decided to do a little rattling sequence with some grunting in between and at the end. I just got stuff settled (grunt call stashed and rattle bag let down) and I notice a buck strolling accross the tall weeds. I see him coming and think about the shot-- yes,no,yes,no and finally yes I will shoot him if I get the chance. He works across the field to the edge of the pines and holds up, I fetch the grunt call out of my bibs and give a couple of BRRRPPS away from him. He picked up the pace and headed in my direction stopping about 5yds from my tree to paw at a scrape and mess with the licking branches. I am looking down 20ft or so through the big pine I am in and see that he looks like a messed up 8pt and stick with my decision to shoot him if I get the chance.

He works his way right under me and stops to smell everything over, he keeps walking out in front of me on the trail I came in on about 8yds from my tree. He is facing directly away, but will have to turn one way or the other in a few more yds so I draw back the Drenalin and hold.............

He stands still with his rump facing me for about 20 seconds and does a sharp turn to the right directly infront of a pine branch. I contemplait letting down, but see a shooting lane to my right and figure I can hold out til he reaches it. I then do the ballerina dance with my bow drawn so I can shoot to my right side. He is fine with this and pauses momentarily to decide which way he will go. He decides on the trail that will take him 3yds from my tree not the trail sitting pretty at 10yds. As soon as he hits the opening I am on him and send the Maxima/Slick trick combo sailing which was fine with me because I was starting to tire after holding back for about two minutes or so.

I hear a fwoopp and he takes off on the fly, I loose sight of him about 20yds from the stand as he tears through some pines. I hear nothing which wasn't surprising since the woods was quiet with the rain. I look at the watch and see 7:46am, I text the wife and tell her I hit one and will be getting out of the tree at 08:30.

I get out of the tree and get the arrow and see alot of white hair, I wasn't real worried since this is what I expected on such a steep angle and actually thought "good atleast the exit hole is low and blood will be good" HAH! I inspect the arrow and don't detect any smell, note the blood on the arrow seems decent and maybe some bubbles. I look for blood and see NONE, I go to last marked spot and find where he kicked up some pine needles and see some strands of white hair soaked in blood and think now its on! I look for some more blood and don't find any nearby so I decide to sneak back to the house and waita couple more hours.

I get back to the spot at 11am and continue to look for blood with not so much as a pin drop, I start to walk paths of interest for the next hour or so and get strike two dealt to me. I then go over it all in my head and think I didn't see him run infront of me or behind me so I decide to walk a line to my right. I walk a hundred yds or so and see him laying 20yds or so to my right. He wasn't really messed up he just broke off his main beam after his G3.

Lack of blood was do to a huge mass blocking the exit hole, it looked like a baseball popping out. I did back track and find blood for the last 20yds pumping out the top hole I imagine. I guess he traveled a little over a hundred yards and the shot took out a lung and liver.

Hopefully here are some pics

Sorry I was so long winded it just kept flowing out.

Chris
