Caleb, I played that video probably 30 times over. When the buck turns, it loos like the arrow was sticking out a little lower on the other side. You might have lucked out and hit something that caused some deflection and made a lower exit. I have some confidence that you will find him! Good luck!

Well guys we searched last night and this morning and found very little. The rain had washed away some of the blood, and it ended in the same place as yesterday. We had 5 guys looking, all making big circles and still no luck. I think i hit him high enough to where i didn't sever any major arteries or the spine. This is the first time i havnt recovered a deer and its a horrible feeling :(.

For my record keeping purposes, that makes 15 deer on 9 hunts, 7 does, 6 fawns and 2 bucks. Ive shot 2 times with 1 miss and 1 hit and 1 wounded and unrecovered buck :(.
On the positive side though, i learned some big lessons. I have to become sure of my yardage when hunting, and i need to stop and analyze everything before i shoot. I should also attempt to avoid shooting at an alert deer, and if i do i need to aim low. My bow is a 55lb Hoyt Lazertec, so its not blistering fast and their is a 3-4 inch difference in groups at 10 and 20 yards. another thing im starting worry about is my broadheads, when i practice with them i have to hold extremely steady and have perfect form to get good groups. And i can't always do this when hunting....do you think i should switch to expendables? I hear they fly more like field points. |

Brett, i went out and bought a ladder stand today ;). 16 feet and it cost me $85.20 altogether.

Caleb, I feel for ya. I've been there a couple times and Im sure most of us have been there atleast once.
As far as switching to mechanicals; Im all for them. I've had as great experience with rage broadheads. The doe I shot last night was broadside when I squeezed the trigger, but spun quartering away as the arrow hit. I believe I only got 1 lung, even though she went just 40 yards before falling over. The entrance was perfect but the exit came out between the right armpit and the brisket. Heres a pic of the entrance hole. ![]() |

Wow, i see lots and lots of support for Rage on here and i might jump the bandwagon. Do they fly like field points?
