By the way Wihunter that cabin is awesome. I would kill to have a camp like that, i'd just grow a beard and spend the entire winter up there if it were mine.

Thanks man. Not sure I would winter up there. You get pretty isolated pretty quick. Sorry to hear your area is so messed up too. I hope the deer come back soon.

AF I have no idea why you didn't see anything. I would think they would have been all over from the way you described that place. Maybe it is just the heat as well.

MoI know what you mean about the heat. I will be going out this weekend but I don't know how much I will be in stand. We are supposed to be 81 now today and 78 Saturday 79 Sunday. If I don't see much I might be coming home early.[&o]

Ok, I got my fix good tonight! Sat on the field with the wife and nothing! After 10 minutes she was ready to go (thus the reason I don't hunt with her). So, I said its a nice night, lets drive around the block (It's about a 10 mile drive). We went almost completely around and got to the field north of my property and there were two shooter bucks in the field next to the creek. They weren't very wide, but really tall. I started feeling better and then as I turned into my drive, there on the left was the wide 16! I have never seen him this far north, but nevertheless, it was him or his twin brother! I stopped the truck and he walked back into the woods, but heeeeee's here!!! Now I have to reconsider stand locations. I don't have any stands on the north. If I'm gonna move any, I'll have to get it done this weekend.

ATTA BOY!!! Keep at 'em brother! Keep at 'em! I would love for you to nail that big sumbitch.....

As for me, I'm headed out in the morning. I don't really expect to even see any, but.......it'll be cool in the morning w/ high pressure.....So the thermals will be shooting straight up from my ridgetop. I'm headed back to the river bottom on Sunday morning.....Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Well, exactly one week from today i will be up in my tree with bow in hand. Seems like this has been the longest summer of my life. Just hope that the wait pays off. First thing i'm doing is filling a doe tag early Saturday morning. I did a sit last night again at my feeder stand and had a decent size doe show up much to my surprise because the redneck neighbors on the joining property decided to let off a few rounds with there semi automatic assault rifles. Kinda of freaked me out a little because they were close and i had no idea which direction they were shooting. Seems like the doe was waiting for them to finish up before having a nice evening snack because not more than 15 minutes after they had finished she seemed to appear from nowhere.

Wihunter402 you suck! All I have to go to when the weather is bad is my home! I'd give my eye teeth for a cabin like that in the back of the property. Looks a lot roomier than the doghouse I stay in when the wifey is torqued!
Well, let's all get together and make it happen. Here's a pic of the cabin a few of us on here here build in W. Va. for a member (DougMD). DavidMil, RonM and I had a hand in it. We studded the place out with real 2x4"s and not just our presence anddrywalled. You get the money AF, we will labor for you, in exchange for a hunt or two of course.

I must have deleted the ones of our work on the inside.
Palmer, welcome home bud.
Well Ifinally got in the woods Fri evening and all day Sat.Saturday had a doe at 12 yrds with her two offspring and another doe later in the morn as well as yet another doe after that. Fri evening saw nothing.Took no shots.Temps in the morning were low 40's and high 60.s in the evening.Bow is almost right as far as the string and cam issue. The 06 Allenance now has 08 cams so the stringand cablesare almost an inch too short. Have a new one on order from Gibblet and then the bow should spec out. Right now can only get 56 lbs out of it but it still flings arrows at 260-265 fps.

Well, I got no hunting in today. I was with my Dad cleaning out my late Grandparent's home. It was kind of fun.....Sad, but fun. We found a lot of interesting stuff in that house. Things we had all forgotten about. They grew up during the depression, and it's absolutely amazing to me how they made things last and made do with what they had. I found an electric hedge trimmer, still in the original box, that UPS delivered to him in 1974. The thing looks brand new, but we know it was used a lot. Just amazing.

Anyway, I'm off work this Friday to go hunting, but......That damn SSE wind is kicking our tails around here! Mid 80's again all week....mobow don't hunt in that kind of weather.

And on another fun note, I'm putting plans together to hunt whitetails in Montana next fall....It's a year away and I'm excited already.

Montana hunt sounds fun! I have been invited to Idaho to hunt elk! $550 for tag and license and then gas money to get out there and back. I'm stoked!

Hey guys. Went out only Friday night and Saturday morning. Had a pretty decent 8 point and I completely screwed it up. So if we loose this thing by about 80 points and I don't get one then it is my fault. It would have been my biggest with a bow (I have not shot much for bucks). Anyway I did everything right except one thing. I tried to peek over the top before I shot. Arrow went about 6 inches over his back and into the ground. Shot was about 35 yards.

But on the better side after seeing nothing all Saturday morning but hearing some turkeys I got down and headed back to the cabin. Made a couple of calls and decided it was too hot to hunt anymore. I wanted to get one more stand put one and cut up a big tree that fell over one of our trails. So I got done talking to my son and opened the cabin door and their stood about 12 turkeys in the gravel driveway. Our drive way is about 350 yards. I put on the release and nocked an arrow. Hit the closest bird with the range finder and it was 51 yards just standing there. I drew back while standing in the cabin and it didn't have any idea I was there. I put the pin on and made sure all was good. Hit right at the curve in the wing and just smoked it. I am using the 1 3/4 inch cut Grim Reapers and those thing are just NASTY. This bird looked like I hit it with a 7mm Rem Mag. It went about 5 yards and was done. Anyway I know some might bitch me out for 51 yards but at a still target I have practiced mostly at up to 60 but on occasion up to 80. I made sure I took my time and did all right. It was pretty cool. I called Matt back and he was not happy. He wants to get a turkey with a bow but has not yet. This is my second. He was happy for me just more bummed he is not up here enjoying all this with me.

AF good luck finding that perfect stand for your 16 pointer. Glad you were finally able to find him.

Mo I totally understand what you mean about your grandfather and him growing up in the depression. When my grandpa died we had to do the same thing. He saved EVERYTHING. We found piles of bird seed bags emptied and stacked up. He always said you never know when you might need one.

Stubb I know about the neighbors shooting too. Ours like to fill them damn ag tagsall summer. Scares the hell out of me when they just start blasting. I don't wear orange during the summer orbow season so they have no idea where I am.
