awesome Rob!!

october 4th will be here before we know it...i wish i had more time in the day lol...

on one hand, id like to tag my buck early again just so i can focus on school work and not have a major distraction (AKA unfilled buck tag) but on the other hand id love to hunt the WHOLE season....i KNOW i learn more from hunting than i do from shooting. thats why last year even though i filled my tag i still went out as much as possible(wasnt much because we moved into a new house right after that..) and id also like to hold out for a nicer buck...but, we'll see how things pan out for me.

i noticed alot of fresh leaves dropped in the woods the past couple nites and it got me itchin....then i realized they dropped because we need rain in a terrible way...got an inch or 2 last week but everything is dry as can be...10 day forecast dont look like much in the way of rain...but, with all the hurricanes, thats subject to change...or, all of us wishing for rain, will be wishing it would stop once it gets here...

Well I went out and shot tonight after lifting, and I sure hope it was the lifting that had me thrown off, because I had a crap session. I wasn't flinging arrows all over the place, but I couldn't keep my dang bow arm steady, and I never got too comfortable. I had to let down more than ever, and I just couldn't get my arrows drilling like they have been. I finished the session by drilling three 2" morrell dots at 20yds, but the sad thing is I couldn't even get all of them in dead center...some were hitting the outside edge, bottom edge, etc, and that's only at 20yds[:'(] My goal has been to get 18 of 25 shots in the 2" Morrell circles at 30yds consistantly, and after todays showing at 20, I'm bummed.

I never even consider shooting after lifting weights. You will be worthless as you see.

I got REALLY pumped this evening while shooting as 5 does & a hard antler forkie decided to stroll thru my yard. THey all had winter coats & were looking yummy:D
One set of twin fawns from the smaller doe were almost as big as momma. The other large doe with a single fawn was still small & spotted. [&:]It was odd

That would get the blood pumping! It was almost as if it was hunting season for a few minutes, huh?:D How much land do you have their where you live?

Matt, I was hunting you today. Nah, actually I was up in Linden and thought about getting those arrows to ya. Keep at the practice, that 101 deserves a shooter.

Rob/PA Bowyer 09-02-2008 07:46 PM

RE: Official Team 15 Thread

I'd never consider shooting after a lifting spell. I exhaust my muscles when I lift and they would be no good for shooting. I shoot and then I lift.;)

Shake that one off Matt and hit again with fresh muscles.

Nothing new here besides the decoy, new MiniDV's for the GL2, making arrows, organizing the basement/archery shop. I'm 3 weeks out from NC and I still have to tweak broadheads and wash camo.

I only own 2 acres, most is yard. But I am usually the only person who hunts my little end of the woodlot which is about 6-8 acres total. The one neighbors uncle hunts some with an X-bow, & some guys from the opposite side of the woodlot push it out in ML season using Xbows. I've had more deer activity back there this summer than I've had in 2-3 years. It would be awesome to drill a doe with the longbow back there.

When were you in Linden? I drive through there everyday to and from work (Jersey Shore)? Were you at the Bowbarn? That guy still owes me 12 bullet points[:@]

Oh, and the 101 is probably getting 82nd limbs this winter/spring. I have some serious limb twist, and I don't think I can get them replaced under warranty.

Rob....

I've got a 90-100" buck patterned pretty well in the evenings. His morning route is coming back through that woodlot we turkey hunted in, this spring. At least that's ONE of his cycles.

I hope to make you make that decision.;)

p.s. He's still in velvet, too.:)

I wonder what the odds are that he was the one we saw while turkey hunting?

RE: Official Team 15 Thread

Could be. He's running with a "more" juvenile buck.....just like that one was. I've seen him several mornings.....likely coming from that woodlot on every occasion......heading west. I've seen him coming out from the west a lot of evenings.....every time we get a west wind.

We can't hunt him, together, in the evenings.....unless he's working north to that woodlot we hunted by the horse pasture. by the time you get here....the acorns will be falling pretty good. So....we'll go in there at least one evening. That's also the spot I went into last tuesday in the rain....and discovered about a dozen trees freshly rubbed in a 30' radius. Something's rubbing those trees.....although I've seen SEVERAL juvenile bucks in that area.

Hope to make you think about it.;)

Just back from the farm, guys. Put out a new stand in a great funnel. Not much sign there right now but I wont hunt it till the rut when the action heats up. Shot my bow a couple days too.I went dove hunting but it SUCKED. Worst dove opener ive ever seen.

Heading to Bass Pro tomorrow to buy another trailcam to put out this weekend.

Went out shooting tonight to hopefully erase yesterday's fiasco off the slate. MUCH better today. Shot 3 three shot groups at 40yds with a 2", 1.5", and yes a 1" group. My 30s were pretty decent. I shot more at 30, and was hitting the 2" dots pretty well (not as much as I would like). 20yds and in (I did incline shots here, too) were blazing in. Definitely a confidence booster. Not ready to take on the likes of Rob or the Matts yet, but I'm improving:D

Was out shooting a bit tonight to. I stayed at 50 and 55 yards for the most part but stuck a few in the 12 ring on the 40 yard target as well.;)

Still have to wash all my camo but all else is ready. I'm walking the last mile home every night after work, 1.2 miles but near a 500' change in elevation so it's all up hill. The bows are ready, working on some conditioning and still need to do my wash...LOL

The days will pass quickly now. The leaves are turning, the corn drying and cool mornings. Its really feeling it guys.

dang Rob!! that guy looks pretty mean! lol...such a....serious...look on his face! lol your right...would make for one mean lookin slickhead!! but, i dont know...id probably try it as a doe as well...i think by the time he gets close enough to realize its a buck without antlers, he will have an arrow threw him or realize that its actually a decoy...just a thought....i know that guy would scare off most all of the bucks in my woods! lol

lookin forward to hearing some results from him though!!

something makes me think of the "buck growl" when i look at that thing! lol

2 weeks and a day. I've officially went over the edge today. I've been trying to maintain myself, but its hopeless now. Conversations with Troy, watching my elk dvd's, shooting, cool nights and slow days at work leaving me to daydream til my hearts content....I'm done. :D

Closed all the windows & doors in a central room in the house, put the ear plugs in and went to town practicing my bugles, chuckles, grunts & other calls. Cow calls are easy for me to practice on my commute to work, bugling would be a bit much.

Mauser,
I will be hunting with HNI’s most famous Idahoan… shed33 (Troy). We’ll roam the thousands (if not millions) of acres of public land they have out there. This year some days we’ll hunt together & some days I’ll be turned loose on the wilds of Idaho all by my lonesome. We plan to take a couple evenings and set up specifically for whitetails as well. And even then, an elk always has a chance of walking by.

I only have one cam, and I didn't put it out at all this summer. Frankly, it's a piece of crap, and I didn't want to bother. There were some times I wish I had one out, but I'm hoping my scouting this winter will pay off. My dad did see a nice a wide 8 in our clover plot a week or so ago, so that's good. We had minerals our all spring, and they were hit hard...some definite big buck tracks around those areas, so they're here.
