Western MA Hunter checking in...can't wait for season to start.

I'm 30 years old, married with 2 little girls (4 & 2).

I am an avid bow hunter and gun hunter. I just shot a bear earlier this week during the MA bear opening evening. I will be going to New Brunswick in 2.5 weeks on moose hunt. Bringing my 7mm mag for that.
Bow season starts mid October here and gun the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Here is the bear from the other night... You may have seen it posted on a couple of other Threads.
I am on Team 1 for the Bowhunting Contest

Any ideas on team name or who we want as a captain? Any of you get in last years gun contest? If so what did you shoot?

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

I hope the rest check in soon. Will be hunting interlake of Manitoba. Water levels are up so the deer have been sticking to the ridges. Should be a good season. Was pattenning a monster last year but could never get a shot. He's still in there and I hope some new stand placements will give me a shot this year. Saw him twice last year and I figure he is easy a 150 class. I hope I will be able to contribute this year. All my best.

Hi team 2. My name is Paul I am 46 been hunting for wow 31 years now,and justgetting back to deer hunting after a few seasons of fishing in the fall(surfcasting) and duck hunting. These to sports left little time for chasing deer but I have been missing it, so last season I got back in the woods a little. This season will be much more. Most of my gun hunting will be in PA unless I find a spot in NY, most of the old farms I hunted in upstate NY are gone nowor sold and posted. I will be splitting bow hunting between NY/PA. Long Island has some great deer hunting if you put in the time. Lots of big deer buthard to get at them, urban hunting[:@].

Great job keeping on top of things Jim. If we are going to vote for a captain you have my vote already. This will be my 36th year hunting and I hope it will be the best. I'm heading out Sat. and hoping to arrow my second whitetail of the season. The buck sign has been coming around where I ML and Rifle hunt. If I can bag another with the bow then the freezer pressure is off and I will be able to concentrate on the big boy I was chasing last year. He's held up on the same ridge as last year and with high water in the surrounding swamps most of the deer have been traveling up on the high ground. Hope I'll be able to stay on top of him and add some inches to the team score.

Jim, you get my vote... you are on top of things.
We have Doctor Death... he will be putting some points on the board for sure! Good to see you again DD!
I am very bad at team names...
The best thing about these contests is getting to meet people from all over (North America).
It is a great thing.
I just wanted to share another pic with you of my 4 year old w/ last week's bear... She is really into it.

Great picture of the little one and the bear. It's one that you will treasure even more as she gets older. Yes, it is very nice to meet you alland thiscontest will provide usan opportunity to get to know each other a little better. Only 3 of us ever checked in on my last year's team so I think I've done far better than that already.I'm also very interested in the techniques that you guys may be using and how they may be similar and/or different than mine. (I supposegeographic location will dictate our individual styles of hunting). I will behunting in the interlake area of the province of Manitoba. If you look on a map (I'll post a link once I have my stuff together), it's and area between lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg (which is the 7th largest fresh water lake in the world). It's an area of mostly graze land (not very good farm land once you get 50 miles or so north of Winnipeg)withthick boreal forest. At times tough hunting but one thing we do have is very big animals (antler and esp. body). A 200 lb. field dressed buck doesn't ever get a second look when you stop asat a gas station. With that said the pressure is on to produce for you boys. Here's a pic from 2 years ago.

Sorry messed up putting the pic in. And by the way, although I'm not a little guy, I'm not as hefty as I look in the pic. Minus 30 and 4 or 5 layers of clothes will do that to you. lol

I did not take anything worth noting last year w/ the gun. Just a little 4 pointer. We hunt big woods here in MA. We do alot of sitting, still hunting, & drives. If you shoot any buck in MA, you are doing something right! or just lucky...
Last year I took 2 doe & a 6 point with the bow, the 4 pt w/ the shotgun.

Just doing a shoulder mount w/ the bear. I have 2 mounted already... 1 rug & 1 3/4 mount

Jim & Wis... nice bucks... all 3 are beauties. .... If you shoot a 200lb buck out here, you make the paper...

This is last years....

Nice buck W Ma H.A few inches here and there by all of us and maybe we can get over the top. Last year I harvested a nice little 4x4 that scored just over 100 inches but with only 3 of us on our team that actually checked in we didn't have much of a chance.
