Surf62 hope all turns out well for your dad. I'm sure your grandmother had a good run. I can't even imagine 97. I'm sure she'll be well remembered by all in your family. My condolences on your family's loss and my prayers go out to all of you. W MA H the velvet buck was a textbook hunt. I was set up on a north to south tree line that bordered on the east side of an alphalfa field. The cool thing about this hunting spot is that it is only 10 minutes north of Winnipeg so it is nice, fast and easy to get to. The wind was from the west and he entered the field from the south east corner about 200 yards from my stand. He just worked his way down the treeline until he was basicly right under me. As he passed by he started to quarter away but suddenly stopped and came to alert. I thought he was going to bolt so I raised my bow and tried to put the pins on him but he was so close they were basicly useless. My draw is at 70 lbs. and my stand is up 14 feet and with him being so close the angle was less than perfect. I let one fly and when it hit him there was just a huge "swack". The arrow hit him just in front of the hip and angled to the bottem of the lungs. He circled back and crashed into the trees. I let him be for about and hour and a half but by that time it was just black out. I tracked him for about 30-40 yards into the bush but it was real thick so I decided to come back for him the next morning. The next morning I found him approx. 30 yards from where I left off the night before. It's nice whena hunt works out just right.

Our ML season starts Oct. 20th and rifle Nov. 10th. As to the name....as long as it isn't corny or pansy, I'm ok with it.

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

rut busters sounds good to me. archery starts 10/4, ML'er starts 11/1, and rifle starts 11/15 and runs through the first saturday in january here in VA. In PA, I'll be hunting the week after thanksgiving with a rifle and then the week after christmas with the flinter.

I haven't got any big bucks on the cameras this year, but last year I shot a main frame 8 with a few stickers that went about 118" (my biggest) the guy on the farm next door shot a main frame 11 with 14 scorable points. There's some big deer where I hunt, we'll see how it goes.

Good luck to those who are already hunting.

Bow doesn't start here until 10/13. I will try to get out in CT prior to that.
I actually spend more time bow hunting than gun hunting...

whitetaildreamer,

That's awesome, congratulations. Unfortunately where I hunt we don't have an opportunity to harvest bucks with velvet.

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

thanks guys. I'm hoping to add another one to the freezer before gun season so I can be more selective. I was out goose shooting this morning for about an hour. Our limit is five but one landed in an uncut mature oat field and though I looked for longer than I hunted I was unable to find him. I hate when that happens. I guess the foxes and coyoties have to eat also. The retreaver in the picture is one of my 3 hunting dogs (Sasha). Her son (have him also...named bear is in training for geese for he is 2 years old and weighs just over 100 lbs. A little bigger dog for the bigger birds.

Yep he's bagged and in the freezer. He's going to be the Christmas goose this year. Some good eating.

RE: Official Team 2 Rut Busters Thread

i went out bow hunting saturday morning before it got to hot. i saw a nice 8 point about 15 inches wide probably wouldve scored about 122. i never gota good shot off he was always behind some brush but ashe was making his way to an opening the doe behind must of caught wind and she snorted. that ruined my hunt. my dad shot a squirrel with his .220 swift. nothing left of it. he brought because he was going coyote hunting. we've been seeing a couple during the day in our bean field. by 10 it was 70 degrees
