I am leaving in a little while today for my Bowhunting trip to Brown County Illinois so since I cant find the cord to load the cell phone photo's on the computer I will when I get back from my trip pull the card from inside the cell phone ( a friend told methat the photo labcan do the pic'sfrom my cell phone card ) so then I'llgo to the photo lab and have them do the photo's on a CD so I can load them on my computer and post them here and submit them in the offical thread and then I guess like Bob said the team captains can vote on weather to accept my entry or not.
Here is a pic of the largest buck so far to come off the property in Brown County Illinois that I am going to hunt this week... he scored 219.

talk to you all next week.

Congrats Lady Forge, good that you found him. Is he a wall mounter? I can't wait till next week. I'm going up north for a 4 day bow hunt. There's quite a few people saying there starting to see more bucks now. My buddy seen a dandy 10ptr standing in the road the other morning. Hopefully we'll catch the rut next week. The temps are finally coming down.

Congratulations Lady Forge! Way to stay persistent and find your deer. I can't wait to see the picks.

I have been hunting as much as possible. I have over 30 hours in the stands so far, but the last week has really slowed down. I will be starting vacation this Friday, and hopefully things will get better like they should. This gives the farmers some time to get some more crops out as well. Good luck team!

Well went out Fri. night. Not one deer came thru. But one very good thing. My youngest son just completed his hunter's safety course & took him out on the bow hunt. I was quite proud to of him all decked out in his camo. He's 13 & has only been out once w/me. He's pretty stoked for the gun hunt next month. We'll be working on him getting a bow for next yr's season. The other good news, is that I found fresh rubs on a spot that a big boy was working on last yr. The odd thing is that is on the edge of a wood line facing an alfalfa field. So now I'll concentrate my efforts on a blind in that area. Hopefully I can catch him there. What time do you think he's workn' it, the morning or evening. I suspect it's enroute to his bedding area. How's everyone else faired over the weekend?

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

Hey Team I am back home.
I had a great time Bowhunting in Brown County:D
I spent Wednesday morning in the stand along the ridge just above a food plot. Sitting in the dark waiting for daylight I listened to 3 different buck fights down in the food plot.
The first critter to join me was a Coon whom decided to get up in the tree with me ( Coon's werent in season )[:@]
Ishot 2 Does the first morning.... shot them both standing in almost the same exact spot, shot them litterly less than 1 minute apart:DI will post a pic later.
That evening Sean myguide asked if he could video me on the rest of my hunts we headed outand we sat a spot where we saw a 160 class buck cross the road going to a cut corn field , once we had the stuff all settled in the stands and the camera set up the only thing to come close enough was a possum ( which werent in season ) told Sean we could of had some Awesome Possum Kill Footage[8D]We did watch a buck we were calling in come our way only to stop at the telephone pole to make a rub, so we call and rattle again and he starts our way again to cross the road and of course just then a truck pulls up on the road between us and the buck and he hits the brakes to look at the buck and then our buck run's off... of course[:@]
The second morning I had to pee before I got in the stand so I made a mock scrap 8 yards from my stand and pee'd in it.
Of course the first deer in front of me again is a button buck sniffing my scrape followed by his mom and another fawn, then in comes in another spike and I watch him make a rub and then he goes to my mock scrape and pee'd in it ( that was so cool to watch, so I have mom at all kinds of shots broadside but I dont have another doe tag so I had to let her walk, a little later another doe and 2 year old doe pass by broadside but alas no doe tag again[:'(]
That evening we headed out with the video camera and of course when we parked at our parking spot it started raining so videing the hunt was out of the question so Sean just sat in the stand next to me to watch. At 4:42pm a nice buck ( he was a mainframe 10 pointer with I think was a split G2 making him an 11 pointer , he comes by broadside quartering away slightly from behind me so Sean taps me on the shoulder to alert me to his precense I turn to see him , I had to stand and turn around in the stand and draw my bow with me facing the tree with my bow right next to the tree, I guessed he was 25 yards drew and shot, clean miss the arrow went right under him, my yardage estimation was way wrong Yep I choked [:'(]I now get to join the I Missed Club.
I was just thankful it was a clean miss and I didnt wound him.
And thankful it wasnt all on camera;)
The hunt on Friday Morning was sitting in the rain with not much deer movement and pretty uneventful on the deer's part , I then moved to another stand to hunt from 9:30am to 11:30am in a light rain and not much movement, follwed by and afternoon and evening hunt of us sitting in the pouring rain for hours with only onedoe moving.... all in all it was a great time :D

Well LadyForgecertainly sounds like you had a good time. To bad on the miss but thats hunt'in, right?

I was out last night and had several bucks in front of me just nothing bigger than a 115" 8 pointer. Good looking deer and would have been a chip shot at 7 yardsbut I want to hold out for a 125" or better. The young bucks are sure hot to trot right now. lol
It is a blast to see thembothering them does. I have taken some time off in the next week to sit longer hours. Hopefully it pays off.

Awfully quiet on here team. I am kinda nervous no one has connected as of yet. It's good right now in Minnesota I have been seeing several bucks everytime out. But most are small 6 and eights. So I passed on the shot. I saw 2 borderline shooters but let then pass because I did see onerecord bookdeer. He was running off 3 other bucks then would turn around and run back to the does. It was crazy to watch. It's amazing how loud them deer are when they are chasing eachother in the woods.

I will connect eventually, I just hope it's sooner than later because it's tougher getting out with the wife yelling at me. Soon I may have to settle without the big guy. :(

Hey all! I am stoked! I may have done us proud. Whacked a good one tonight just before dark. Here's the question, He was about 15 yrds walking away & slightly quatering to. I heard the arrow hit, & he took off like a bat of hell. The fletching appeared to be out about mid-section, with the broadhead in towards the vitals. He ran about 75 yrds into a patch of woods. Couldn't hear him because of the wind & tractors near-by. I waited a half hr. before scooting out of there & walking about 100yds away from his last entry point. As I exited, I looked quickly for my arrow in the ground, In case I was seeing things, nothing found. My question is do I go and look for him tonight say about 5 hrs after shooting him? There's rain predicted for my area tommorrow. What's your opinon guys. It's now 730 CST. Thanks, Hank.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

My mistake in the description of his position. He was quatering away not quatering to. I decided to go out about 5hrs after shooting him to look for some blood where I shot him. If I find some then I'll continue the search. IF not I'll back out till tommorrow moring.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

Bad news guys. Went out last night around 10p to look for him. Good news found my arrow covered in bright red blood, right where I seen him run 75 yrds into a patch of woods (25yds across). There was some brightred blood on the ground w/the arrow. Not a ton, but fair amount. So I figured he'd be in that smallsection of woods. As we walked in, the blood became less & less, down to a drop here, a drop there.I know that I saw that fletching sticking outbetween where his liverwould be &his back leg.The shotwas from his right rear side going towards his neck/L side. We think he may have made it to a alfalfa field next tothat small patch of woods. We were out until 1130. Wewalked an adjoining fence line, & doulbled backon the fenceline, walking tall grass. Even wentalong thefence line, which is behind my tree. NOTHING! Talk about dissapointment & a let down. I thought for sure he'd be just a few yards past the woods he went into. I plan on going out tommorrow morning. Rain is predicted, so blood trails are out. I did leave toilet paper on theblood as we found it, up to the lastdrop. I left my arrow also wherewe found it. I think I'll have to get a small posse together to find him.Amazingly he may have madeit across the field to the next tree line. There were tractors spreading manure in those adjoining fields,so hopefully he kept to the one alfalfa field. Maybe we'll find himtommorrow. Sorry guys,Ithought I had this one bagged. But alas, as well as you allknow, when it comes to deer & there resilency, hecouldv'egone a longway. What do you guys think of the arrow we found & the blood. It was bright red blood, no bubbles.

in da woods 11-11-2007 08:27 PM

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

Really bad news guys. Went out looking this morning for 4 hrs. Tracked him about 600 yds, ( 3 farm fields), blood was very spotty. Still bright red, but speckles. Anyway, he came to a large picked soybean field, & there was a couple of good blood splots, then absolutely nothing. So we figured that he had trotted across the field to a nearby mix of tall grass/thick cover/trees. After walking that thing systematically, we actually came across where he was bedded down. Fresh bright red blood in his bed, & found enought blood to run off a leaf nearby. So we may have pushed him. Mind you, it's been 15 hrs since I hit him. So with that I can't figure out where he was exactly hit. A friend suggested that maybe it was more parallel to his ribs, & maybe just below the skin or under the ribs. He bedded down just the one time, we figured must have been last night. But the distance was unbelieveable. So I don't know what to think. We trailed him out of his bed & up a field to an alfalfa field w/a patch of hard woods across from it. I think that's where he's headed. I got permission to look tommorrow. Maybe the land owner will come out for a look. He's a hunter himself. Hopefully time will take it's toll. The temp is around 50 tonight. Sorry for getting any hopes up, I thought for sure that it was a good hit with where I had seen the fletching sticking out. Talk to you all tommorrow.

Thas's horrible news. It's not about the contest but us as hunters hate when something like this happens. Sounds like you are doing all that you can. Hopefully if he is mortally wounded you will find him. Good Luck

in da woods 11-12-2007 11:58 PM

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

Heartache & disapointment. I spent 2 hrs the third day trying to locate him. I went to the alfalfa field & tried to think of where he may have gone. No blood trail. Looked in the woods all around the field, & obviously did not find him. I feel bad for the deer to go thru that. I have never failed to place a mortally wounding shot, let alone not retrieve a deer. Not to mention, if he did expire, then that was sure a waste of meat. That was the biggest deer I've ever seen. Very handsome features. The only thing that I can explain is that either I pulled the bow, or nicked one of the branches on the limb out to my left, which deflected the arrow enough to parallel him. I just don't know. It was covered w/bright red blood from tip to tip. That friend of mine that helped me track him, said that he didn't think he was mortally wounded & able to cover that distance w/bedding down only once. Especially after 15 hrs. But he said that deer may show up again. The real problem is that gun season starts here this Sat, & I don't have the time to go out & hunt this week. So sorry team, I counted my chickens too soon.

in da woods,

Sorry to hear about that. Your friend may be right, it is hard to tell. Angles are tricky.

I haven't posted much due to the fact I am in the woods as much as possible. I have not found what I am looking for so I will keep hunting until I do.

Let's just keep hunting smart and spend as much time as we can in pursuit and let the chips fall where they may.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread

Well Team,

It has been quiet on our thread. With exception to a few guys I haven't heard any talk at all. I guess I will start us out by saying I connected with one. After many passes on smaller bucks and 2 sightings of bucks I thought would be "shooters" but stopped short of me or in one case I was busted by a doe and game was over on that particular buck. I was out in my stand planning to do a all day because of the bucks I have been seeing. I settled in my stand I have only hunted twice this year. Once a small buck at 20 yards at first light. Second time out nothing due to cars tearing up the road not far away.

So I thought I would give it one more try. A funnel that is a small ridge that curves around the back of a pond to my left. Then 100 yardsto my rightis a country road that gets fair traffic. The deer have to funnel through so I had high hopes. In my stand by 6a.m. it's still 35 minutes to legal shooting time. After about20 minutes I hear a deer walking slowly towards me from my front.
I pick up a sillouette and it appears to be a doe. Wind isin my face so I felt safe about that. But like them old does do she stops and stares at me and I was just amazed at how she knew something wasn't right. We have a stare down for 10 minutes. She was trying to bust me but I just held still. She turned and walked back the way she came slowly. I reached over for my bow when she went behind the brush. I looked at my sights and I knew I was still 5 minutes from shooting time.

I do have a doe tag so I was going to beready. My sights are now bright enough to see. She re-appears and stares again. She did notknow what I was but she desperately wanted to get by to get to the bedding areas. Then I pick up a leg move behind her. At 20 yards I can see a deer browsing with the head down and I see a huge neck. I am thinking has to be a buck. He continues to walk towards the pond and I see a main beam. It looks like a good buck but it's dark enough I can't tell how good.

After watching him I see him turn and I can tell the main beam is real heavy and long. And his body was large. "So I figured shooter" He continues to parrallel my stand to the leftand this doe I see is still staring at me.
Wondering how I will pull this off, I literallyam saying the lords prayer in my head.I watch the buck and its light enough now to see him at 30 yards behind her. I never really examined the rack but I knew he was mature.Icame to full draw as hewalks right into my shooting lane. I knew he was a tad over 30 yards from numerous hits from my rangefinder on the previous hunt when I am bored. When I drew sheblew butthe buck just froze. My heart was thumping but because I never actually knewhow big the deer was I was pretty relaxed. My 30 yard pin a tad high and squeezed the release. The luminock left little doubt I missed. It appeared to be a good shot. The doe spins and is gone, I am trying to watch the buck through my binocs but only can see pieces of him through the trees. Then I see him on rubber leg street and tip over.

Three pumps of the fist in theair, and I sat down and gathered myself. Watching through the binos I saw no movement. After 10 minutes I got down quietly knocked another arrow and crept towards my buck. He was expired. As I looked down it sank in what a magnificent Monarch I justhad the opportunityto harvest. I started to get emotional but kept it under control. I looked up the sky and said thanks.
He is what I believe my biggest buck to date. I have been very fortunate, and I am VERY thankful.
I don't know what he scores yet I will post a pic when I get time to green score him.

So Team 9 we are on the board. Good luck andlet's makea strong finish.

Regards,

Tribal that's awesomej! Glad you connected. I'm going to try on last time tommorrow night. Weather looks good. Been warm & windy her past few days. Supposed to drop into the high 20's tommorrow night & be calm. What do you all think about laying a scent line to that same tree I was in. I hope something might come thru like he did. This time my release is going to be coated w/some oil to eliminate any noise. This weekend opens gun season, so bowhunting per say is out until Dec. 9th.Then bow is opentill Ibelieve Jan.7th. But I do have that private property, so I could hunt w/the bow, but have to wear orange. Thanks to all for the positive words. Man what a bummer. I was up Monday night till 2am thinking of what I would/should have done different. Hopefully, my luck will change tommorrow night. I am doing the bow hunt, & then packing for Fri. morning to leave for the opener on the Sat. Continued Good luck to all.

Tribal Congrats I cant wait to see pics:D:D:D
I have been going nuts with the cell phone pic's of my buck. They sold me a software and blue tooth thing with my LG cell phone.
I install everything on my computer and then my cell phone say's it cant connect to it so it looks like I will have to make a 3rd trip to the cingular store and go around with them again on this $#%&*#@ thing. Of course they dont have a good old USB cable in stock to connect my cellphone to my computer[:@][:'(][:@]
I decided to do a skull mount of my buck so I buried the head to let mother nature clean it for me, but I will get outside this weekend since I dont shotgun hunt and will have free time this weekend since I cant bowhunt during shotgun and get the rack scored.
I have been bowhunting 7 mornings a week before work and then working till 7 pm, and bowhunting afternoons on sat and sunday so I havent been on here much, the bow shop is finally starting to slow down so I will now get to get out and hunt more afternoons,I am now going to hunt a paticular buck that I have left alone till now I have been waiting for the right time and conditions;)
I did get another doe last week and had a friend take a pic.

WAY TO GO TRIBAL!!!! That is just what we needed!!! I can't wait to see the pics, your story was awesome!!!

I have been hunting hard, seeing plenty of "little guys", nothing I want to drag out of the woods though. I have about two weeks before the good hunting ends so I am confident something will fall in that time frame....

Congrats Tribal. Way to get us on the board.

I haven't been on here much lately. Between work, building a new house and hunting as much as I can, it doesn't leave much time to get on here.

No successona mature buck yet. I've never had so many 1 and 2 year old bucks within 20 yards of my setup. I had one 3 year old buck pass within 5 yards of my stand but just wasn't what I was looking for. He was about 18-20 inches wide with decent mass, but he only had seven points. There's a couple bucks over 150 that have been spotted in my areawhich I'm holding out for. In fact, one may be pushing 170. Hopefully, I can connect on one of those. Only success so far...westarted filming hunts this year and I was able to kill a doe on camera which was pretty cool. With any luck, I'll be able to contribute to the team before too long.

Good luck all and we'll talk to you soon!
