RE: 9-Official Team Thread
My god Lady Forge, what a slob! Good luck this year, any one of those animals would be a buck of a lifetime.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
I have 2 more treestands up, and am almost halfway done. It has been raining here so much, and school started for the kids, so my scouting has suffered. Hopefully, I will have some more chances this weekend.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
We had our first hurricane in Oklahoma this past weekend, and I am starting to wonder if I had one of my cameras up off the ground high enough. I'll find out in a week if it got submerged or not! Hopefully I will have some pictures of deer and raccoons of course!

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
ORIGINAL: ryanaller Interesting team name you guys came up with. It resembles a news article that was just released today about one of your fellow teammates dwd2001 OU fans. Enjoy the read and please don't cringe too much: http://www.thelostogle.com/2007/08/23/ouch/ |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
When does everyone's season start? Mine starts on October 1st.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
sept 15. just went and look at a new property this morning. it looks pretty decent. if the other fellas are in I am up for picking the lease up. there has been some decent deer taken on and around that area the past few season. the way it looks also is that i will have it all to myself during the week and prob not have much issues on weekends since 2/3 of the people live over an hr away and 4 out of 6 do not bowhunt.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Checking in. Just got added as an alternate to your team.
My name is Derek Dirnberger and I'm from Southeast MO. I'll primarily be hunting private land with some public mixed in there. I'm looking forward to a good year. FYI-I'm leaving for a business trip this afternoon and will be gone for the week so I won't be on here next week. Talk to you all after labor day. Have a great holiday. |

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Greetings tomy DREAM TEAM brethren and sister huntress....
I am back from chasing elk...nope, I didn't bring anything home other than a bunch of tired oldbones (me). I had a chance and blew it (ever shot UP a mountain side in low light?). I had two other close encounters one, a nice bull at 27 yards but no shot presented itself before the swirling wind betrayed my presence and another where the bull was broadside but was behind brush and limbs while in range. I will try it again in a couple of weeks hopefully hitting the rut after muzzleloader season but that is a story for another day...Now to business at hand. First a big welcome from meto our newest member Double 150!!! Derek, we arethrilled that you joined us and looking at the picture of the deer in your avatar I can't wait to see what you take down this season. justhuntitall, I anxiously a wait your return from CO. and hope you bring home some of that sweet Wapaiti meat along with a few stories and pics! Then to add to your already great season, top it off by taking down one of those Illinois "pigs"! Ryan, how do I get your handy work to show up on an avatar for me? Love your work. If you are as creative in your hunting as you are on here you will have no problem bringinghome some "horns". How are things after all of the high water issues? Woodline Bucks, it sounds like you have things well in hand. There is one of those fine Iowa bucks with your name on it that you deserve after putting in all of this hard work two months before the rut even starts. Judging by what I have seen you arrow in the past, you won't have any problem bringing home some "horns"... Keepinspiring us with all of thegood work! in da woods, Wisconsin is a great State. My Mother was born thereand I killed a decent buck there years ago. Your preparation will serve you well. I can't wait to see you take down that "Urban Legend" and add him to the tally for the Dream Team! Then perhaps the Dream Team will be the new urban legend :D;)... Tribal, youbeing on a championship team from the past is a big plus for us. I remember your contributions to your teams and I salute you for you efforts and skills. It will be exciting to see what ends up on the business end of your arrow this year! Joe832002, holy buckets Batman, September IS a HUGE month for you! Let's see, a new job, a new wife, and your boy's second birthday??!! Yes you will have to spend much time in the woods just to get some rest ;)! Might as well add one of those Ohio Wallhangers to your list :D! Good luck my esteemed teammate, we all wish you well. Whacker, did you and your friends ever pick up that lease? I hope you had a great time on your fishing trip; any pics? I know there are good numbers of deer in some areas of Maryland but also a lot of pressure. I hope you can get that lease which will enable you to hunt like you want to and bring home some "horns"! Lady Forge, even if you shot a buck literallyhalf the size of the one you got last year it would be better than most "guys" get. Just so you don't feel any pressure, (;)) we want you to know we realize the size of the buck you killed last year doesn't just mosey down the trail to your standeveryday. That said, this isn't your first rodeo, your credentials speak for themselvesand I can't wait to see what you take down this year [8D]!!! I will have approximately a two week window where I will be busy putting up stands and making preparations for the up comingseason (10/1). Usually things won't heat up until the rutting activity starts, but you never know. The biggest deer I ever drew down on walked by me on an Oct. 7th evening immediately following a torrential down pour a few years back. But that is a story for another day.... Guys and Gal, live the Dream, take one for the Team!!! Later........ |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
It sounds as though you had a good time Antler Eater. I am sure you will bring one home the next time. I am just checking in to see what everyone is up to, and bumping us back to the top of the page where we belong.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
13 days to go!:D

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
went out last night scoutn' an old rub line from last yr, nothing yet. watched the adjacent field, cut alfalfa, but nothing showed up. Just acquired bow rights to a buudy's land, that I'm helping him set up stands on. He said there's a big boy there. The neighbors told him about it, & he saw it 4 the first time last week. I'll have to ask if it's alright if I can shoot him, if I C him. Season starts in a week & half, startn' to get the giggles. Doesn't help watchn the VS channel & it's a hunt'n marathon today. I'm hoping to get out this week to that 600 acre property this week. That's a couple of hrs from me, so i won't be hitting it hard. Have a week long bow trip up to Black River falls in Nov. Look'n foward to getting out there. Antlereater, too bad about those bulls, but at least u seen something. Talk 2 you all soon.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
here are a few pics from canada

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Hey y'all. Glad to be on the Dream Team and can't wait to get out there and start chasing some whitetails. Opener is 10 days away.
Yeah, I'll be happy to take another like the one in my avatar.I don't know if there's anyhis size inmy area this year. A buddy of mine that owns a neighboring farmof my dad's farmcaught a 130-140" 11 point on his trail cam last week. I own a 40 acre track a few miles from there and we found the shedsof a 140-145" 9-point there as well. I should get an opportunity or two at something nice this year. We'll see. Talk to y'all soon. Derek |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread

|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Whacker,
With results like that you and your gang should join the Bassmaster's tour ;). It sounds like you guys had a great time. I hope bow season goes even better for you...:)[8D] |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
I've got 2 more treestands in place, and will be checking the trailcams this week. I also hope to get out and do some scouting this evening. I hope you are all doing well, and getting ready for a great season!

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
~~S~~
Hey all back from Co. and no meat for the freezer but 10 days of nothing but running in the mountains chasing elk it was great! The weather was warm and wet the 2 worst things you can have, the elk were totaly nocturnal but still had great time, being in the high country this time of year is awsome everyone should go at least once. When I got home went looking for deer sing and put up some cams hope to have some pics of a couple of 150 ish deer I was chasing last year seen them in the bean field the first few weeks of July. Cant wait to see who scores for us first. Im picky what I shoot I try not to shoot anything under 3 1/2 or around 140ish ( I have week moments thoe Im a suker for a wide thin horned buck ) . Well good luck all Shane |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Hey all,
I am heading back to Colorado in the morning, hopefully the "Puffers" left a bull on the mountain for me :D. I will talk to you all when I return in a couple of weeks. Justhuntitall, I know how you feel. It IS great just being there, maybe next year eh.... Now get prepared to grab a buck by the horns and get a picture of it for the rest of us....;):D. Woodline Bucks you continue to inspire us with your efforts keep up the good work. Go DREAM TEAM!!! Live the Dream; take one for the Team!!! |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Been gone a while since I couldnt get on this site ...... Been busy working, teaching some classes and doing my early evening exercise routine trying to get some weight off and get in better shape, my old job gave me lots of exercise but working at the bow shop for 2 years now dosent give me much exercise other than the upper body work out pulling bows..... but it has got me pulling 68 lbs now:)... I will be hunting with 60lbs where I feel most comfortable though.
We have all ours stands hung with the exception of one that we will hang this weekend ![]() A few of us from Huntingnet.com got together last weekend for my last Bowfishing trip of the year and we had a Blast. We headed out on Clinton Lake around 9:30pm on Carpsniper and HNIChristines Boat and spent the night shooting Carp. We returned with a barrel full of carp and 4 tired shooters at 4:30am...... geese I stunk ![]() Been seeing a couple of mature Shooter bucks in my hunting area's and spent a couple of mornings sitting in the woods before the sun came up to confirm they were morning Doe area's on the lands where I will be shooting a doe before Ishoot a buck........ and I was right on both of them, at oneafter sunrise I had 3 doe's with 2 fawns come ridht by me... and the other I am not required to shoot a doe first butI like to take a doe opening weekand I had 4 does within 24 yards of me and twin fawns. The 3rd property I usually take a doe opening week for the last 3 years and hope to keep that on a roll;) Come on October I am ready!!!!!!!! |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
it all starts for me tommorow. It will be a rough night of sleep with anticipations of finally being back in the woods
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
I have the stands in place, and I can't believe the sign that I am seeing. I have found two different areas with huge rubs! I have never seen this much sign, this early, in these areas. They are destroying trees and scraping the ground already. I put out stands ina few different areas than normal, just to adjust to the sign. I am trying to think outside of the box, and get a good look at these fellas early on in the season. I hung a stand that had a flock of turkeys walk under it after I got 100 yards away. Hopefully I can get a shot at one of them as well. It sounds like this team is getting fired up. Good luck tomorrow whacker, let us know how it goes. Good luck and good shooting!

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
so I got out tonight for about 6 hours. About 5 oclock or so I see something headed my way out of the standing water swamp. it is a small spotted fawn, i sit and watch it for about 20 minutes until it heads 8 yards away from on its way toward the cornfield about 100 yards away. about the time I settle back down in my chair i see more movement from the same direction the fawn came. here comes to large toms, one with a beard that looked to be a foot really something special. nothing else till about 5 minutes to 7. here comes a line of deer toward me. all does. in MD you can kill 2 bucks with the bow but you must kill 2 does before you can kill a second buck. so i get situated. the lead doe stops at 24 paces. i draw and let it go. oh no!!!!! i hear a knock right before the arrow hits the doe. It hit a branch right before impact. I hunt a swamp edge that is only huntable from the ground and you must pick your spots at that. the does jumped and ran about 45 yards and stood there. the other 4 deer that were with it ran back to the swamp. the deer that i shot must have followed them. my fletching had only minimal blood at semi dark at that, makes me believe that after the arrow bounced off the branch it must have struck the deer in the liver. a blood trail was almost non existant.darkness got the best of me and i would need hip boots to head into the swamp. I am upset about this . I dont like to waste animals and feel that even if i can find it tomm morning that the meat will already be ruined because of the temp right now. I feel awful about this but idont know what I could have done differently. When i took the shot i believed it to be an ethical one and never saw the branch it must of hit. this is not how i hoped to start my season off!

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Did you find her this morning whacker? It sounds like you had an active evening. Good luck retrieving her, and good luck the rest of this season.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
well i spent the morning combing the area. could not find any sign of blood or hair in the better light. went everywhere and into the thickest stuff around. I found some real interesting spots back in.
![]() ![]() I think that she must have just been grazed because there was no sign of her. listened for crows and buzzards and heard nothing. walked the area for about 3 1/2 hrs just no sign. I am thinkin i may meet up with here again in the next few weeks |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
worked early this morning 330 to 11am pound netting with some watermen on the chesapeake. went and spent the rest of the day on stand on an island that allows 25 people aday to hunt. has some nice deer. saw a shooter this evening on the way out. snuck within 35 yards of him along a corn field while he was in the beans. 20 minutes after legal time so i just watched. work early tomm and plan to keep the same schedule for the rest of the day. hopefully I connect tomm eve.

RE: 9-Official Team Thread
hey guys just wanted to check in. i have been real busy here recently with a lot of things going on bow season starts here in a week or so. cant wait to get out there.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
I have been busy also ......... With The Flu [X(][:'(]
This Stuff SUCKS... I can only hope the person that gave me this Crap gets a real bad case of Poison Ivy...Itch Baby Itch......Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold,or maybe its just the medicine talking.......[:@] been home in bed for 2 day's with this germ... My husband took me out to hang my last stand on Sunday when this germ was just starting to rear it's ugly head and all I could do to help was show him the spot and lay at the base of atree and rest and watch while he did all the work..... Yep...... he is a keeper;) The heat here is not letting up any and it looks like it might be a warm start for bowhunting season with temps in the 80's and 90's.... and the Skeeters arent much better either[:'(] |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
whacker .... Sorry to hear about your Doe.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Lady Forge, I hope you get to feeling better. As a consolation, at least it happened before the season opens.
whacker, good luck on chasing that shooter down. You will get him! I got some more camera pictures the other day, no shooters. A couple 120 inch plus bucks, they will be really nice next year if they make it. I will be out fishing the rest of this week, only 11 days until the opener. Good luck everyone!! |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Woodline Bucks..... Thanks
After puking, fever , muscle aches all over, headaches, cough, sore throat, suffed sinuses, runney sinuses and a bunch of other goodies that accompanied this germ and now looseing my voice I feel wiped out but.....I am feeling a little bit better................. yep you are right..... I am glad I didnt get that crud during season.[:'(] I'm back at work and buried under a pile of bows to fix and restring for all the lovely Bowhunters whom waited till the last minute to get their bows ready for the season And a never ending stream of arrows to build for customers.... what can we say .... Business At The Bow Shop Is Good;)I did pickup a new pair of Muck Woody Elite Boots yesterday and boy are they comfy..... cant wait till it gets cold to give them a real tryout. The farmers are getting the corn and beans out of the fields here left and right... I have never seen them come out so early before in the 19 years I have been living here!!!!! Should start to see a lot more deer once they get all the corn out, but the temps are so awful hot still here and the skeeters are still pretty bad in the river bottoms. I got a few stands to checkout some Sponsorship experiments I have going on at them this weekend so it will be nice to get in the woods!!!!! |
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
13 deer this evening. 5 bucks. 80 yards scrapping with each other army crawled to within 45 but no go from there 2 shooters. it was neat to watch them, at one time 4 of them were goin at it nothing serious but just feeling each other out.
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Well a perfect weather opening weekend came & went last weekend. Unfortunately, I could'nt find a trade for the life of me. I was out on a rsq in the early moring & it was perfectly still outside. All I could do was sigh. As Lady Forge said earlier, temps now in the upper 80's & 2 many of our state birds (mosquitos) will clean u down to the bone in the evening. Cold front coming thru next week, temps in the 50's at night. Hopefully I'll be then. But a bit of good news,a friend of mine that moved out to Wyoming a couple of weeks ago, came back this week & offered me a double seat ladder stand. So that'll go up on some private land that we used to hunt. That'll be put to good use. All the units here are earn-a-buck this yr. Lucky, I shot an anterless deer last yr. Has anyone shot anthing yet?
|
RE: 9-Official Team Thread
Lady and gentlemen, Iam back from a successful Colorado tripand my hunting interest now will be squarely on Whitetails. While the season opens here in a week, normally I don't see any big boys until well into November, but stranger things have happened. Either way I should be ready with a vengence.
I am glad to see everyone making so much effort for our team to be the '07-'08 champs. With this much dedication and a little luck we can pull this thing off. Keep up the good work and take one for the team, while your livin' the dream! :) |
