well checked out that land with my new buddy. found out its 33,000 acres! a lot of it is managed for waterfowl, but there is some good stuff too. first place we went was terrible, but the second spot has some promising sign. lots and lots of trails but didnt get deep enough to see any old rubs, but I wanted to stay close to the alfalfa fields for now.

If its like areas managed for waterfowl here in MO it will definitely have some big bucks.....and mosquitos that can seem even bigger.

I am heading home for the night to get ready for tomorrows hunt. I will be hunting from 6:00am to 9:00am. It is supposed to get chilli tonight with a low to mid 40° ONL but then warming up tomorrow to 85°. Todays high was 64°. That's how it always happens though. Hopefully one of them monsters will come wondering by me in the tree.

well tonight I was coming home from work, and right by our gravel pit a nice 7 point crossed. big 2 1/2 or small 3 not sure, but it sure got my heart pumping. Then later I went to check out that field, and I can't remember the last time I saw so many deer. It was too dark to see anything with the binos but Im figuring that the three nices bucks that we'd seen shininh had to be out there and who knows what other bucks. Can't wait!

I had a fun time this morning. The wind started blowing hard and it was making things a little chilli while on stand. I had a doe sneak in on me while I was turned and watching the field behind me. She was at 20 yards when I turned around. Then I had a very small 3 X 3 at 20 yards as well. Fun to see some deer on the first day.

well the first day nearly brought a bow kill from my hands. I had a big doe sneak in under me and I wasnt ready for the first shot opportunity, and then the next chance I had at her was a hard quartering shot, so I passed on her. drew back twice tho, but never a good angle. didn't see a whole lot after that. Not sure where I'm gonna sit tonight

I'm glad you guys are seeing deer and good on ya Beagle for not taking a bad shot. Sometimes it can be awfully tempting.

I went out dove hunting last night and my grassy overgrown field is absolutely torn up with rubs! I am getting excited for the 29th. I've got 9 stands hung, with only 3 more to go, but 2 of those have to wait for some of the underbrush by the creek to die down or I would never be able to see the deer coming anyway. With any luck this will be a good year.
