RE: 17- Team "Autumn Assassins" Official Thread
Gun season is over here and we're into the second half of bow season. I will probably bow hunt one or two more times. It's pretty much all duck hunting the rest of the winter though. If i dont do that the dog gets pretty upset. We sure do need some cold weather.

Man its slow. Gun season is over, duck season is over, not finding any grouse, and I have one anterless deer tag left. I have a week off over Christmas and am hoping we have snow on the ground by then to do a little more hunting before it ends Dec. 31. Looks like we are still leading the contest, fingers crossed. Any luckfor those couple still hunting for their buck?

The season does not "end" here until the end od December, then we have a special doe or spike season until the 21st of Jan. I took my 2 youngest daughters to the lease this last weekend and we took 3 does.

RE: 17- Team "Autumn Assassins" Official Thread
I got out for two days this week to bowhunt and man did i have fun. The ground is still covered in snow and ice here in MO so the deer are having trouble getting food. Monday i hunted over my food plot of clover and wheat. I saw 9 does/fawns and 1 BIG 8 pointer, that would score close to 130". The problem was that they were all in our 3/4 acre milo field. Since the ground is covered in ice the milo is the only thing the deer can eat. Today i put up another stand over the milo and start hunting. At 400pm we're in business, the first deer start showing up and do i mean deer. By 500pm i had 25 deer in the milo, all at 40 yards or less. They came from everywhere. I thought i was on Drury brothers hunting video. I had several easy shots (deer were walking within 5yds of my stand) on does, button bucks, 1 4pt and 1 2 1/2 old 8pt. I kept telling myself that the big one would show up but he never did. Regardless it was the most exciting deer hunt ive ever had as ive have never seen that many deer in a hunt. I stayed on my stand until 615pm over an hour after dark watching them (full moon and snow) and listening to them eat their hearts out.
I eventually had to get out my phone and play the coyote howling recording to scare them off. The snow and ice can be hell to hunt in sometimes but they sure can concentrate the deer things are right. You can bet i will be keeping part of the food plot as milo in years to come just for situations like this one. |

Hey Guys, Didn't want you to think I fell off the face of the earth. I have been hunting every chance I get, which has been slim lately. Christmas is on the way and it seems like the honey do list get's longer every day. I still have another week off starting next friday. Have to go do the shopping thing that day, but Saturday thru the next Thursday is all mine. And I intend to make it happen. I will also be out this coming weekend.
By the way guys, if any of you are praying men, please remember me in your prayers as I have to go have a biopsy of a gland in my neck Mon. 11th. I don't believe it is anything, but my Dr. wants to be safe rather than sorry. So say a prayer for me anyway if you will. And while you are praying/wishing/hoping, remember me while I am in the woods. I just know it is gonna happen. I have had this feeling all season. Sorry for being so long winded. Catch yall later. Hopefully next time I post will be in the scorecard section. LT |

LTK, I will send one your way. Good luck with all that is going on and I hope you are right. It's always better to be safe then overlook things.

RE: 17- Team "Autumn Assassins" Official Thread
Prayer sent LTK, hope it turns out well. I threw in a little one for a deer too.
Any of you guys fletch your own arrows? I never have but am toying with buying some sort of fletching tool and doing it myself. If you do, what kind of fletching tools do you have? |
RE: 17- Team "Autumn Assassins" Official Thread
