RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Checking in from northeast Oklahoma. Really looking forward to contributing to the team this year. I'll be hunting some oak hardwoods and also some thick brush country bucks. We took 3 bucks last year off our property, 2 in the mid 140's and one in the mid 120's. We let a bunch of young ones walk. Should be plenty of shooters this year. How about the rest of you?

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Hello team 13, HUNGAR checking in. My name is Chris and I will be hunting in Michigan where I am from. Found one decent shed this year about 50yds from one of my stands, I would like toput him on our score sheet this year. The shed measured like 43". I will do the majority of my hunting in this area and I have one trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, no out of state hunts this year and I didn't get drawn for the Federal hunt.
Personel info- I am 34, married with 3 kids (Hunter 8, Garhet 6, and Hailee 1 month). I only bowhunt and get out about 45-50 times a season. Our season in MI runs from Oct. 1st to Jan 1st, with gun season starting on Nov. 15th and going until Nov. 30th. My biggest buck so far is a messed up 8pt. I have been fortunate enough to harvest atleast one deer with my bow for thepast 16yrs, but will try to be more selective this year. I shoot a Mathews Q2XL, Nitro Stinger Arrows, with Muzzy 100's, Drop Zone rest. Good hunting to all my teammates! Chris |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Hello fellow teammates. My name is Craig, I'm 36,andmarried with 3 kids. I live in east central Illinois and I have hunted this area since I was in high school. I'm looking forward to many great hunting stories and hopefully some pictures of trophies.

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Way too closeto the bottom so I am bumping us up!
I put out a game cam today in a new area so hopefully I will have some pics to show off next week or so. I really need to invest in a new cam, mine is an old stealth. I think the activation time on these gets worse as the years go on. Testing it today I couldn't get it to trigger past 10 feet, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. This is a small 80 behind the house(40 on each side of the road) that holds alot of does. I've hunted it before and it's been does up til the end of Oct. then the bucks start showing up. Three years ago I didn't see a buck until Nov 1st and then I didn't see a doe until I shot the 8th buck I seen on Nov. 6th. Last year I seen a 5 and a 7 opening day and not another buck until Oct. 28, an 8pt messing around with a doe which I was able to harvest. Houses all around the perimeter, but I have seen some great rut action here and have had real good success with the lil'can call. I pulled a solid 130 class buck to 12yds, but only came to the right ofmewhere I had no shot. Saw him once more after I tipped the can and grunted (I grunt and tip the can at the same time) HS tru talker. I had a nice 7 coming in and he did some leaps and bounds and was chasing him through the woods and out of my life. Sorry to ramble on, but I like replaying hunts like these. Chris |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
I know its still early, but i'm wondering where everyone else on our team is. I hope their out scouting the buck of a lifetime.
Anyone have an idea for a team name? Maybe something that relates to our unlucky team number. I've gave it some thought but have'nt come up with anything good yet. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
I just thought I would let you guys know that I informed SW Iowa Hunter that the teams were drawn. He was thinking it was going to be the first of September, as did I. He has been busy at work and should be checking in with ya in the next couple of days. I am his brother-in-law, and we hunt together in SW Iowa. Good luck to you all, hope you don't mind finishing second.

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Thanks Woodline for the heads up.
C-WOODS, you are correct we need a team name and a captain. I nominate lte 622 if hes willing since he got the ball rolling and is keeping track of our check-ins. For team names people could just enter something on here and in a week or so we could vote what we thought was the best. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
ill gladly accept the offer hungar and we do need to put some thought into our team name.

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Team name ideas- Slogans
Primetime predators Waiting in the shadows Bucks downThe buck stops here Bucks-R-Us Taking care of business HeartbreakersDeflating lungs two at a time I liked Lungbusters with the "deflating lungs two at a time" slogan, but I couldn't remember if there was a team with that name last year. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
I'll second the nomination for ite622 as our captain. Lets keep the team name ideas rolling in.
HUNGAR - I think Bucks-R-Us is catchy, thats probably because I've spent alot of time in Toys-R-Us with my kids. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
once again ill gladly accept.
as for the team name i like the heart theme how about the name: Heartslicers |

Good to see the rest of you guys. Looks like we've got the breadbasket states covered. I like our odds with Iowa, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, and Oklahoma so far. I wonder where the other guys are from.

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
I searched some and I think this is where the others are from, but final confirmation from them will be the answer as my wife says I'm wrong alot.

I seen that luckybuck was posting on the 21st about being an alternate because of some confusion he thought he wasn't in, but Rob let him know he was #100 on the signup sheet. Maybe a Pm is in order to let him know he is being counted on for a Mississippi buck for team 13.:D:D

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Luckybuck checking in. Sorry for the delay, I teach school and we have started and it is busy for now. I will be hunting thebottoms and hills of Mississippi. Hope to add some inches for the team. We canuse a bow in any season so I have from Sept. 30 through January. The rut in this area is sometimearound mid Dec. I hunt public land so it can be a challange. Saw a good one at the end of last year, so I hope to sneak in early on histurf before to many people get the same idea as me.Good luck to all.
|
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
lucky, I too have from sept 30 to first week of january.
|
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Hello guys, good to hear from ya.
I will be shooting a Mathews Q2XL (65lbs), Nitro Stinger arrows, Muzzy 100gr, Trophy Ridge Drop Zone, with a single pin set to 17yds (Toxonics I believe). I really was thinking about getting a Switchback LD, but opted not to because I just love my Q2XL and the way it shoots. It has been a really good bow, but next year is a new year and you can't have too many bows:D I'm sure the wife will say "why do you need two bows?" I'll have to pass it off like a spare tire on a car--just in case. Christmas came early to the Metiva house. My wife ordered me new cold weather gear-Cabela's super slam elite fleece jacket and bibs with scent-lok. It should be here tomorrow via UPS, I am pumped to get this to make my December hunts more enjoyable. I hope it isn't too heavy, the tracking info says the package weighs 10.4 lbs! Oh well, as long as its warm and quiet all will be good. Chris |

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Gentlefolks,
Just got back from emergency TDY. Sorry for the delay. I'm ready to go. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Im here. Sorry I didnt get signed in earlier. As far as hunting land goes, the land I will be hunting looks like a doe hot spot so I am hoping it will become a buck hot spot when the rut hits. I havent had alot of scouting time but I have pretty much decided on the tree I would like to use. Its over(about 10-20 yards from)a pretty heavy trail that leads to the hay field where they feed. So all in all I am not completely ready for the season but then again, are we ever?

RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Got more time to post today. Alittle about myself, I am 34 years old have hunted just about everything in Iowa since I was 6 years old. Took one trip out west for antelope and mule deer but mostly around home.
I sell farm equipment and have access to a large number of acres that are privately owned from the farmers I work with. Bow, muzzleloader hunt, and 3-d archery shoot. Hunt with brother-in-law Woodline Bucks in SW Iowa. We have about 10 to 13 stands a year out with alot of back up areas if we need to move them around and a climber if need be. Last year was the first year without a buck for the bow in a long time but changed jobs right as season started and just didn't see anything big enough to shoot. We set trail cams out every year and don't have anything nice on film yet but got a couple 120 to 140 class spotted as a back up plan. Last year we had 12 pope and young spotted before season. This year they are hiding in the corn alittle more I think. Killed pope and young bucks in 2 of the last 3 years so will be waiting for something nice. We own a taxidermy shop and live to hunt. Looks like a great team with all the areas we are covering. Jeremy |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Hope everythings OK O2bhntn, we need that VA buck:D:D Glad to see we are almost all checked in.
SW Iowa Hunterit sounds like you have some SWEET opportunities. I wish I had that many places to hunt. I work with a guy that is headed to Iowa to hunt with Steel Creek Outfitters this year. I think he is going a little early (third week of Oct.) to catch the rut though. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Dear SW Iowa Hunter,
Thank you for visiting the Team 12 post. Your kind words gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. However you left before I could ask you a little about yourself. First, are you the same SW Iowa Hunter from Team 19 last year? Oh you are, that is very interesting because I think you might want to check with the Mod's about the typo on your teams scoring from the last contest. It says you guys had 44 1/2 points, none of which were from your deer because they must have forgot to add yours in or something because it was a big empty blank where the score should have been. Anyway instead of looking for competition, maybelooking for some bucks wouldprove helpfulful. I always heard they had big bucks in Iowa but I guess not in the SW area. Second, were the P&Y bucks you talked about taking involved in some form of Farm Equipment accident? And if so is that why you couldn't count them? Anyway this is all in jest I actually wish you and your team good luck and straight shooting!! |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Looks like we're taking some smack talk already!! Anyway, I just got a new bow a couple of weeks ago. I picked uptheDiamond Justice made by Bowtech. I've been really satisfied with how it performs. Smooth drawing and shooting, and blistering fast. I've been shooting for the last week every evening. I'm really happy with the groups I'm shooting already. Now I just need to get that oldbuck to step out there and give me an oppurtunity. Also, I'll be going out to check my Moultrie 2.1this weekendand hopefully will have some pics to share.
Here's a pic of my setup http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.SceneSeven?hvarTextId=79793&hvarSource Name=images2/94500/94613b.jpg&hvarType=0&hvarLinkEnabled=fals e |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Great to see we almost have a full team.
Some one asked about hunting setups so here is mine. Darton Rampage set at 58# and 28" draw. Carbon Express Terminator 60/75 arrows with 4" vanes and 100 grain Slick Tricks adding up to a whopping 460 grains. Trophy Ridge three pin sight. HTM drop away rest. Gorilla hang on stands. Lone Wolf climber. ASAT camo. I hunt public land and see alot of does all season. The bigger bucks don't usually show themselves until the rut. Just as someone stated in an earlier post, I also will be holding out for adecent buck. My definition of decent is Pope & Young or bigger. As far as the name goes, I'm not picky so whatever everyone else likes is fine with me. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Yes I did visit the Team 12 post yesterday :) Thought I might fire them up alittle bit. Looks like it worked.
Hungar I would have to say the third week in October is usually alittle early. This year should have alot more of the crop out than most years and that should help. Tell him good luck. |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
so guys are we gonna stick with The Lungbusters ?????
|
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Laramy lte!
Just want to wish you all the luck in the world bud .I'm on team 8 this season and it sure look's like your gonna need all the luck we can muster up for ya LOL [smack] nubo |
RE: 13-Team Official Thread
Ite 622- The name sounds good to me. I see alot of the other teams already have their team name so I think we should use it before someone else does.
I put up two stands this weekend in my two favorite spots. Looked like alot of sign in both areas. I still need to check a few more areas that I will use my climber in. Season starts Oct. 1st here in IL so it won't be long now! |
