RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
LUNGBUSTERS is good with me.
A little about me. I'm from Fredericksburg, VA. I've been hunting for 20+ yrs. Bow for the last 10.I mainly hunt a couple of farms out in Fauquier county, totaling 900 acres. Many large bucks roaming around. I watchedtwo 6-pointers last night that might be 120". I also hunt 2500 acres in the mountains of Highland county. My set up is a golden eagle with a 3" OD and 26" 2213's tipped with 85gr thunderheads. Here are a couple that I was after last year on our farms. No one got a sot at them last year so they might have made it. They should be bigger this year. ![]() |

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
my openers sept 30th. how about everybody else????
|
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
C-Woods,
You are correct, it was not taken by a game cam. I took that with my 35mm camera with a telephoto lens with 2x multiplier from about 100 yards |

|
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Nope, we don't open until Oct 7th. I will be out at the farms quite a bit dove, goose and bushy tail hunting. I will be able to just sit and see whats there and what warrents going after. Should be a good year.
During the middle of October don't get worried if I'm not posting.I have some travel for work that will take me away from the office for three straight weeks, but I will be hunting on the weekends. |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Season opens Oct. 1st here in Illinois. Weather has been very cool for this time of year and really has me itching to get out in the woods.
Hope everybody has a good Labor Day weekend. I will be away from the computer on a camping trip. |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
O2b- That is an awesome pic, looks magazine quality!!
Our season opens Oct. 1st. I picked up the cam from the woods on my days off and only got 4 pics, but all of them were during shooting hours which is nice. I got what looks like a young 8pt and a 4 or 6 following. The 8 has four on one side and 3 with slight split brow. He only looks to be about year and a half. I will try and post the pic, but it will bea scanned image since I only have a 35mm cam. I am looking to upgrade to a digital, they have a cheap 2.1 on sale for like 79.99 so I might just give her a whirl. |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Ite622, Rob/PA has started a thread at the top asking team captains if they have any MIA's. We might want to let him know we have one no show, Little Yellowjacket.
Hope everyone else is still with us as there hasn't been much activity on our thread lately. |

I am still going to post the trailcam pics that I got of the 8. Chris |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Well, I went out this weekend to check my moultrie game cam. I had hung it by a tripod feeder that I had set up. Well, I couldn't believe it but somebody stole it!!They left the feeder but took the camera. I just set it up last weekend and It's already gone. The neighboring property is several hundered yards away and I can't believe someone would be that far up into our property at this time of the year. Its been really hot and the ticks and chiggers are thick. I had another cam hanging on a major game trail about 150 yards away and it was very visible but nobody messed with it. Pics didn't turn out on that one, I think the photolab may have messed something up. They said the film was "fogged". Never had that happen before. Anyway, I talked to the property owner and he said that he'd keep a close watch for people sneeking in. There's only one property owner that borders on that side and he has lots of people hunting his ground. Only thing I can figure is that somebody might have spotted the feeder from his fenceline (his fenceline is about 400 yards across an open pasture) and decided to check it out, saw my cam and decided to help themselves to it. I'm sure I'll never catch them, but It won't be good for anybody I catch trespassing on our property. I Hope this never happens to any of you.

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
John Deer, sorry to here about your game cam. I know it doesn't get your camera back, but I'm sure the low life that stole it will get some of his own medicineback in return some how or another.
I think Luckybucks bloody arrow would make a good team logo. |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
John Deer- sorry about your cam. I had the first treestand that I ever bought stolen and I know the feeling of losing something that way. I was 19 and it might not seem like alot, but to come up with that 80 bucks or so for the lok-on stand I had to make some sacrafices. I had hunted on private property we leased the 14th of Oct. gun season runs from the 15th to the 30th. Well I don't hunt gun so I set out Dec. 1st and find no stand. I found boot prints and was able to follow them about 400yds in the fading snow (we got some rain), but I never found out who took it. Now that I think back on it I am gladI never found out who took it because in my youth I am pretty sure I would have done things that would have had severe consequences. It still makes your blood boil to be violated like that.

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
I don't know if I'm more upset that they stole my camera or the fact that they were tromping around on our lease. I've never caught anybody on the property during hunting season since we started leasing it 4 years ago. I guess I'll just have to keep my camera's and other stuff more secluded in the middle of the property. Also, the property isn't posted. We never worried about these things before, but I talked it over withthe landowner and this weekend I'll be out hanging posted signs. It's sad that people can't have more respect for others property and possessions. Anyway, I'm over it now and just looking forward to October 1st. How's everybody else coming along with their stand hanging and preseason scouting?

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
We got several stands up thanks to my brother-in-law and seen a couple of nice bucks so far. Alot of little ones and does.
Have had 2 cameras stolen already this year it sucks. Makes you not want to put any out anymore. |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
anybody heard from little yellowjacket????? seems as if we will need an alternate.
|
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Well, it looks like I might get to do some scouting this weekend. the weather has cooled of into the uppeer 80's. So far I think things will be ok. Afraid to put camera out on public land so I guess I will have to do a little more footwork. Sounds like the rest of you have a good idea of whats ahead. Hope my scouting trip leads me to a sweet spot. Good luck to all.

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
The high today here in Illinois was only mid 60's. Hope this doesn't mean its going to be in the 90's come October. You never know what to expect for temp on opening day in this state. I can remember a few years ago when it was 90 degrees on opening day. Last year I'm thinking it was in the 70's, any warmer than that and I'll be staying home.
|
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
I know what you mean, the last few days here in MI were in the mid 60's and overcast. I keep going outside and thinking this would be a nice day to be hunting, but it is suppossed to get in the 80's :(:( this weekend.
I have one stand to move, it is the buddy stand that I hunt out of with my boys in the early season before the action picks up. I shot one with my oldest son Hunter who was 5 at the time, what a cool feeling he was pumped. He actually seen it before me it came from behind a tree and I couldn't see him, but he could and he whispers "dad, here comes one". I peak around and see him and think "that's my boy". I will always remember this hunt |
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Hey guys, I have a question for you. Opening day is this Sat. and it is supposed to be in the mid 70s do you have any suggestions for warm weather hunting? As far as when they will be moving as they very well may because of the warmth but just thought I would ask. Thanks
|
RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread

RE: 13-Team "Lung Busters" Official Thread
Well, I went out yesterday evening to an overlook on our propertyto see if any shooters were moving. It's a perfect vantage point that I use regularly when I'm scouting preseason and even during season to set up spot and stock with my rifle or Muzzleloader. Well, it was about an hour till dark and I hadn't seen anything yet and I was getting a little discouraged when I spotted a deer across the field. He came out approx 700-800 yards on the other end of this field. At that distance I couldn't tell how good he was but I could tell he had a rack. He walked up the Eastern most fenceline to a percimon tree. As I watched he kept raising up on his hind legs and I guess he was eating percimons that were on the tree. After several minutes of feeding on the tree he proceded up the fenceline and rubbed a small tree. Then he slowly crossed the field and made another rub. By this time he was still about 4-500 yards out and I could tell he was a pretty nice buck. After making that second rub he did something strange. The field has recently been cut for hay. There was a small clump of grass and he walked over to it and started raking his antlers violently in the grass. Over the next 15 minutes as I watched him, he would walk off from this clump of grass but then he would go back to it and start raking his antlers violently in the grass again. It was getting close to dark now, and the buck finally started moving toward me. The closest he got was about 150 yards below me before he disapeared into the trees below me. I got a pretty good look in the deminishing light with my Bushnell 10x50's and he looked really good. I couldn't tell how many points he had as there wasn't enough light but I could tell he had good mass and was very tall. His width was at least as wide as his ears. As he entered the treeline below me, he walked within 30 yards of my stand hanging on the edge of the field. I've never seen this kind of behavior before, unless I was watching a buck make a scrape. This buck never pawed the ground, he just used his antlers and he never urinated that I could tell. Nevertheless, there's a good shooter hanging out right near my stand and I'm hoping he'll give me an oppurtunity on opening day. I marked the clump of grass and am going to go take a closer look at it tommorow evening. Anybody else got any Idea's on what he was doing? One other thing I'll mention, I have been seeing small bachelor groups of bucks in groups of two's and three's. This is the first buck I've seen by himself.
