ORIGINAL: Sooner1982

Do any of you mothers hunt from the ground? Do you just sit at the bottom of a tree, or behind some brush or something? What scent blockers do you use, and how often do you re-apply?

Also can any of you suggest an affordable treestand for a BIG dude? I'm 6'-2" 340lbs.....
On the ground hay bales can be a great blind. Blowdowns in the woods are good to tuck into. As for scent control, I wash all my clothes in baking soda, spray with scent killer every time I go out, and I like those fresh Earth scent wafers.

I think you may want to check out those 2 man ladder stands. They should be able to handle a big fella. Not the easiest thing to move around, but should be safe.

I only hunt from the ground. I use natural cover when I can, but I've found the Amerstep Powerhouse blind is real confortable for us large economy sized people. Plenty of room for gear too.

HA!Large economy sized people. I'll have to remember that one.

I haven't really looked at any stands or blinds, I thought I would get some opinions first.

How much baking soda do you use?

I just got another 120 acres to hunt, exclusive to me and my buddy!!! I know this area has some big bucks on it and one has double drop tines from what I'm told. I have not seen him yet but hopefully I will!!! Hope to get a stand in this weekend.

Sooner, I just the scoop that comes in the bag. You can get like 10 pounds of the stuff in the laundry aisle for a few $$$.The baghas enough to last you 3 seasons I'd bet. I also like to line dry my clothes.

I'm big into calling. I use grunt tubes, antlers later, and the snort wheeze on my wedding ring has brought them in a few times in the heat of the rut.

Go get em Moosehunter21!!! I am so jealous!!!! I have to wait to the 30th of Sept.

Sooner- I agree a two man ladder stand may be for you. Although there are some climbers out there for guys like you but I have no experience or info on them. Check the Summit site the Goliath SS is rated for 350 lbs.

I got pics last week that show all horn and no velvet! The fawns are losing their spots also.
