Well gun season just closed tonight and I never saw "the one". So now it's back to bowhunting. I think the hunting pressure will ease up now and I hope to bring in a late season beast. I"m not giving up yet.

Hey team.
I went down East (NC) this past Saturday to hunt with a co-worker. It's in a 4 buck county (most of NC is up to 4 bucks.....the part I live in is 2). I knew they had a 3 on one side restriction at their lease.....and I told them I was hunting for a deer to donate the venison to a family I know that needs it. I told them I was going to shoot.....and I did. I felt like I had a knife at a gunfight (They were gun hunting), but it worked out for me and the family.
Lumenok worked great.....and it was the best shot I've ever put on a deer. 22 yds quartering away......I grunted and he stopped. Arrow entered high on the ribcage.....tore through the vitals, double-lunging him. It was absolutely over in 15-20 seconds. He went maybe 60 yds. I recovered my 125gr Muzzy during the autopsy (in his off-side shoulder, broken about 2" from the tip of the arrow).
HUGE backstraps.....and the meat processor is going to butcher the animal for free (I've got him quartered and in the cooler) and add in some things for this family of FOURTEEN (12 kids). I want to get them one more deer.
I saw 2 beautiful sights over the holiday weekend (other than the MAGNITUDE of beauty that we get to experience when we're in God's back yard). I saw a legitimate mature buck that I'd previously not seen, before. I saw him Thursday and had him dead to rights broadside at 30 yds. I released my arrow and watched the tracer effect of the lumenok.....only to be blown away when the arrow took an ABRUPT right before reaching the animal. It hit a limb that didn't see. I found the fletching end and my reflective wrap about 8 yds short of the tree the deer was standing beside. That's all I ever found. I saw the buck again on Friday evening.....at 60 yds. He never cam any closer. He's a legitimate 120-130" deer.....which for here is a monster. I ALSO saw another beautiful sight on Friday evening. I saw the deer I hit and injured earlier in the year. He was up-close and personal....like 0 yds at one time. He offered a shot at about 4 yds....but it was so straight down I thought he deserved better than that. I let him go and he walked straight away from me.....never offering me a shot. I grunted him to a stop at 20 yds.....and he blew and hopped about 20 more yds away (still facing away from me). He stood there for a long time.....then sauntered off. I was thrilled to have seen him.....and my heart POUNDED in my chest. I had a prayer answered in that sighting, though. I'll now hunt for 3 deer the rest of my season. The 2 above and the great young 8-pointer Rob and I saw in the street lights, one morning....and that I've seen once, since (at 30 yds.....he snuck around me).
I'll keep checking in....and I hope you guys all get the bows back in your hands. It's a very personal thing, I know......but for me....I'll take my deer with the bow....or I won't take them. That's my choice, though. I don't fault you gun hunters ONE BIT. I know it's upping your odds. I'll congratulate you when you harvest one.
Here's my Saturday Eastern NC buck. Good luck, guys.
