RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Well opening day didn't turn out to be all that great. Our great northeast weather played it's part with temperatures getting into the 80's, so deer movement was limited. And the wind/breeze was constantly changing direction so it made it difficult. But hey it was only day 1 of a hunting season.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Still 3 weeks for us till opener. My Daughter is getting married the 30th of Sept. so doubt I will make opener.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Way to be optimistic Amhrdwd. I'd feel the same way. Last yearI got too antsy and tagged a second doe (bag limit of two deer by archery) a week before season ended. Two days before the end, I was out walking and watched two nice 8 plus pointers trotting by my stand sight. :(Boo-hoo, though. If if and butts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry christmas as Dandy Don Meridith once said on Monday Night Football.
I'll be on stand come Saturday morning unless its drizzling/raining. Then I'll be in one of my two ground blinds waiting er out for the break when the deer start moving. Temps are climbing from the 70s to the 80 by Friday now but the weekend forecast calls for low 60s so we'll see. Good luck everyone! |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Well I'm always opyimistic. And I'll also be huntin in NY this October. My friend said that he's seen massive amounts of deer this season compaired to the past few years in NY. And we have access to 2 different properties one bordering a game preserve and we have exclusive ights to the land..... SOOOOOO chances are pretty good.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Did anyone have any luck yet?
I went out on Friday and didn't see a thing. [&:] I'll be back out this Friday. |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Same here G2 Shooter. Went out and saw nothing, but found some good looking CRP field exit routes. Unfortunately the weather has been ridiculous 70's 80's when it's usually starting to drop quickly this time of year. So all I can do is keep trying and looking for now.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Hey guys. Got out a few times this weekend. Saturday morning it was drizzling so I sat in my pop-up blind and saw no deer. Went out again Sunday evening and saw no deer again but did get to watch a group of wild turkeys roam through the woods. Had some fun throwing twigs down to the ground and startling the heck out of them. Was in the 80s on Saturday but cooled down substantially now. Looking forward to going out again this coming Saturday morning.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Week and a half yet to wait.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Just a little over a week to go for us. I have a close friend that lives in Maryland & he's taken 2 Does so far but not a Buck close to him. He's still rubbin it in that he's tag something. Good Luck fellas. My areas look pretty good. I will have 2 Bonus antlerless tags & 1 buck tag this year.
This is a photo of a Buck I took a few years back when I lived in Illinois (my brother is in the pic). I have only 4 like this so I am due for a dandy. Just thought I would get everyones blood pumpin a bit. ![]() |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Heading out tomorrow morning. Looks like it's going to be in the 60's which is actually normal for this time of year here in Maine. Hoping to get out early enough to be set up between some CRP field exit trails and bedding areas, that hold plenty of White Oakson the way. All providing the wind plays to my favor.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Well I'm not a happy hunter today. Sitting in my stand, enjoying the day and waiting patiently. Start to hear some noise coming down the trail,(I'm about 1/2 mile from maine road in woods). Waiting patiently to see what comes around the corner. Damn SURVEY CREW, they are staking out the land for a new development.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Damn, I hate when that happens!
Two years ago I was in my stand on public land when I heard something. I watched a guy walking around with a walkman spraying blue paint on the big trees. I scared the **** out of him when I dropped something next to him when he was painting the tree I was in. Turns out he was marking them for logging. All next summer into fall they were tearing that place up. It hasn't been the same since. |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
This is where I hunt Inside Blue is where I hunt. Red Line is where it is going to be developed. This really bites.
![]() |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Amhrdwd, that does stink. So they are developing all of the land inside the pink, including that which is inside the blue outline? Or just the land surrounding the blue outline? If it's outside the blue line but inside the pink (if you get my drift), maybe the deer would congregate in your area more than they do now? Hopefully thats the case.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Everything inside the pink/red line. The blue line was just to show where I hunt. The whole thing is going to be developed. The contractor is also doing about the same amount accross the street which will hold 300 new houses. I new it was coming, just didn't realize they were going to be tromping through the woods marking the land already.Spend a whold year scouting, just to have it all blown by people who are just tooo damn greedy. Hey I know everyone needs to make money butthis is a contractor who has tomore money than heknows what to do with.He flewhis whole wedding party and guests to Jamaica for his wedding, at his expense. His wife was married/divorcedone of the L.L. Bean Owners. Anyway just venting and thanks for listening. I'm going to check out some different land this weekend, thats on the other side of themarsh to theright of the picture. Maybe the'll drive the deer over there.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
I know how you fellas feel. Close to my home I have a small parcel I can Deer Bowhunt-Well, I have a HUGE school being built there right now-I amfortunatethat I have other places BUT this place held some good Bucks & close to home. Progress-we all have to put up with that.
Good Luck this year. |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
The one property I hunt on has "lot for sale" signs up and the other property is under contract to a developer. I'm always on the look out for new property and opportunities.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Didn't see a thing last Friday. I think Aliens came by and sucked up all of the deer.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Season starts Saturday here.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Good luck this weekend T in PA3. Doesn't that last week of waiting take a toll on the nerves. Always watching the clock on Friday to see when work will be over so you can go home and get all the gear ready for the AM hunt.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
I just finished all the rules for qualify for a city management Bowhunt.
Hunter safty, 5 out of 5 at 9" circle @ 20 yards with B-heads ect.ect.. Anyway, just put up a stand on one of the city properties since it's only 5 min. from my home. Rule is antlerless only BUT IF you take 3 Does by Nov. 1st you qualify for a city EITHER sex tag. So, I usually pass on does but since it's a management Bowhunt I want to do my part. This town has some tremendous Bucks. Other than enough meat for my family I am going to donoteany other to family'sdown on their luck IF I bag anything at all. Good Luck to allon the team-remember, WE WILL be #1. I will try my best to put a BIG IOWA Buck on the score board... |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
First evening out-had a forky walk nearly under my stand-he's safe. 2 Does out of range. 2nd time out-no Deer, just Squirrels.
Anyone else? |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
It's rained every Friday here when I have the day off. Last weekend was a huge downpour. Hopefully this Friday I"ll have nicer weather.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
evening-3 Does, 2 Fawns, 1- 6 point(40 yds-still to small), no shots.
I could have taken one of the does at 15 yds. with a fawn but the fawn was extremy small. |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
25 mph winds-a little snow this morning N.E. Iowa-gone by noon.
No hunting for me till maybe Sunday PM. Anyone doing anything? |
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Im goin out saturday all day, opening day of southern tier, we shall see how much luck/fate likes mee
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Could have went out Wednesday morning but it was rainy/snowy mix, 30 degrees, and gale force winds. Tomorrow morning I am going out for sure. Wind is dying down to 10 mph or so and supposed to be sunny and high 40s. Leaves are pretty much all of the trees now so tree stand hunting isa little more consipicuous to the deer with my terrain. I am planning onsitting in one of my blinds tomorrow. Good luck everybody!
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Seeing does pretty regular. Watching how much pressure I put on these areas. The does are there, the bucks will be too in the next couple of weeks.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
I had a nice Doe pass at 20 yards(I have 3 antlerless tags) & was getting ready to take a shot when her fawn came out-extremly small for this time of year. I just can't shoot a Doe with that small of a fawn. Anyway, no Bucks. Things should only get better from now on. Good luck to all. Remember-we will be #1 at the end of the season.
|
RE: 21- Team Offical Thread
Well guys, after 50 days into the season and not seeing one mature deer in shooting light, I saw a nice 4.5 year old at 8 AM this morning as I was leaving for work. He looked to be the big deer I posted pics of with the drop off his right side, but had his head down, so I couldn't make out the point. Muzzleloader weekend is in this weekend, so I'll have to contend with the smokepolers, but I'll be there, bow in hand and hopefully he'll give us a good look.

RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
hey everyone, havent posted in awhile. been hunting every weekend and some weekdays when i get a chance, have seen a few deer, some ok bucks, but nothing really nice. Just found out thought that the big one that we cought on camera was kicked out of a tree line next to our property last weekend by some pheasant hunters. On top of that there is a huge scrape that is right next to one of my stands, hoping its the big one:D. Illinois hunting trip is only one week away, so hoping that goes good too. Well good luck to everyone, hope you guys get the opportunity at the one your after.

RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
Good Luck on your ILL. trip-born & raised there & now 30 min. away in Iowa. I have passed on a couple small Bucks-forky & little 6. Couple Does also but have plentry of time to fill the antlerless tags-like to keep them MaMas around for those bigger Bucks. I have a couple good Bucks in the areas I am hunting & that's what I am holding out for. I passed on about a 130 last year at less than 10 yards & never filled. Doubt if I can let that go this year but maybe. In 50 years of Bowhunting I have taken a few good ones & would like to get over 150 this year. Yes, I am spoiled with good Whitetails but then, I go WITHOUT filling my tag many times.
I am hoping my one Daughter will take a big Buck also BUT then, any Buck will fill the bill for her & we will be delighted if it happens. Good Luck again-it should start getting better for everyone each day now. Remember, we will be # "ONE" at the end of the season. |
RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
Hey guys....nothing doing this weekend. Went on Sat but the big boys didn't show. It's off to Kansas on Friday for five days in paradise. Buddy of mine has been seeing more 160 and 170s than he's seen in the past five years. He's scouting it out for me this week and I'll be in the stand next Saturday. Five days to get it done in the land of giants. Best of luck to you guys.

RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
Went out Saturday to some Federal land and got a doe. I have to get a doe before I can get a buck in this area so now I am set.
I went to a spot that I hunted last year that I saw a lot of does at. Went out around 2pm and after I got all set up I started scanning the area, guess what I saw? Not 1, not 2 or 3 or 4 but 6 scrapes all within 35 yards of my tree!!!!! Holy Moly! All of them were active with paw marks in them. I will definately be up there this Friday. Last year a BIG 8 pointer was in that area so maybe he made it. |
RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
Well last check in before I'm off to Kansas. Man, Joey's buck that he posted has got my blood boiling. I wish all of you the best of luck. Deer are trucking here in KY and they say they are in KS as well. So, I'll have one week to fill my KS tag and since I didn't fill it last year, I'm not going home empty. I'll post some points by next week. Take care.

RE: 21 - Team "The DEERmenators" Official Thread
Sorry I havent been on in awhile, just got my buck this wednesday. He came out about 20 yards and was looking at me, so I rushed my shot, and i heard it crack, but where i shot there were some branches in the way, so i didnt know if I had hit him or not. After I shot he ran about 50 yards up the field and stood there for a few minutes, I called with the grunt and doe estrus call and he didnt respond at all. Then he went in the woods and presented me with a 40 yard shot and just as I was about to pull back again, he stumbled a bit, so I thought that I may have hit him and decided not to take the shot. Left him lay for 30 minutes and my uncle came over to help track him. My arrow was solid blood, but there wasnt much of a blood trail. We walked up to were he stopped in the field and my uncle said "where did you say he stumbled" and i showed him, and he says there he is and we both took a step. Just as we took a step the buck jumps up, appearing to be pretty strong and takes off in the thicket:(. After that I thought that my shot placement wasnt so good. So we let him lay for another hour and a half, come back to follow the blood and he ran another 60 yards and fell over while he was running. I know he isnt the big buck I was after this year, but this is a buck of a lifetime, and there is no way I would trade this deer for one of the other bigger bucks on our farm. The shot ended up going hitting the liver and exited out the gut, like I said I rushed my shot, but hes dead anyway. Oh yeah, I was reading that less than one percent of whitetail in the wild are piebald, well I got that less than one percent:D. Well heres one for the team.
