Team Blackjack - Buck(s) or Bust!

Works for me. My only concern is what was team 21's name last year?

chucker34 08-25-2006 09:56 AM

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

It was Team BlackJack. I looked on the old official scoreboard link that Rob had posted. Hmmm. Any other ideas?

Should have thought of that...figures last year's name was the same.

How about "The Untouchables" or "Team 21- Doe Widowmakers"

Corny I know, just a thought.

Chucker34-I was born & raised in Rock Falls, Il. about an hour from Debuque, Ia. & 20 miles from the Miss.River at Clinton, Iowa. I moved to Clinton, Ia. a few years back & am still about an hour from Debuque & only a mile from the Miss. now. Retired nearly 5 years now so usually get to do more Bowhunting than the average fella. Putting up some stands next week for the Oct. 1st opener. Hoping to get to Ws. for a few days also near mid Nov. b/4 gun season.
I have passed some pretty decent Bucks in the past couple years but plan on a couple Antlerless on the bonus tags. Have a Daughter I am hoping will tag a good Deer this year also-last year was her 1st at Bowhunting.
Good Luck to all this season. 21 will be #1 after the season.

Deermenators....instead of deerminators, get it, deer men, I didn't think there were any ladies on the team. Am I wrong? Don't want to insult anyone.

I've been busy prepping for opening morning..this Saturday. The big deer I had posted pics of is not out of velvet. I'm a little disappointed in how much mass he loss, but he's a good 135-140.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Kel

I'll go with the DEERmenatorskcison. Good call. Unless their are woman on our team than we can change that so nobody is offended. What's everyone else think?

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

Good luck ahunter and Kelly, especially since opener is any day now for you! I am buying one more ladder stand tomorrow and hoping to get it out this weekend - two weeks before our opener on Sept. 16. Its one of those buddy style type stands with a large platform. I'm looking forward to taking some relatives/friends along on some hunts, probably more so during gun season though.

Anyway, I like the name suggestion. How about "The Deermenators" then???

Just to let you guys know, I have yet to kill a big buck in archery, this year will be my sixth year hunting archery, last year I started passing up the smaller ones and got really close to getting the one i wanted (didnt come in close enough). So far I have about a 140s 9 point, a 130s eight point, and a 110-120 eight point on my cam. And on top of that I am going to IL the Oct 30-Nov 3. So this year I should have a pretty good chance of getting a big one, Ill do my best to get this team points. Anyone else scouting out any big ones?

chucker34 08-29-2006 06:52 PM

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

Sweet! Team 21 is fully checked in and ready for duty. Welcome ddlyrfl3006! This will be your year! I can feel it! It will be mine too as I have yet to kill any buck by archery. We have that on our side.:D

I've seen some big tracks and got a few 8 pt or higher in Loch Ness type photos late at night on my trail cam so I'm hoping for a slip up early season or just hunkering down for the long haul and planning to hunt the rut hard.

So guys, I changed the thread to DEERmenators? Sounds good to me! But I can change it if there is a disagreement.

I'm sitting in a hotel room in downtown Boston tonight traveling for work. Gotta beer here with the laptop going stir crazy. I am sticking out like a sore thumb in New England. People think I walked right out of the movie Fargo. :D

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

What bow does everyone shoot? I have a Hoyt Havoc. Sweet bow that has done me well. I will probably use Rockets or Snyper broadheads again this year. I have had great success with both over the years. Shot placement is the key to any broadhead. Use a LW climber, Gorilla hang-on and some other no name hang-on that I picked up cheap last year.

chucker34 08-31-2006 07:31 AM

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

Great topic of discussion T in PA3! I shoot a Parker and love it. It's a "mid-level" bow but it fits me right. I shoot muzzy 3 bade 100 grains and like them. I've goat a smaller ladder stand, two-pop up blinds, and just ordered a two man partner stand. I'm going to take some friends hunting this year and plus will like the larger platform. How about everyone else???

Good idea G2. Is anyone good at creating pics/images? If not, I noticed rynaller is creating ones for people and there are some other HNI members that could do it to if we gave them some ideas and paid them some complements.:D

Thought I would share this trail cam pic. It's a yearling buck but the pic composition is cool I think. He's walking into one of my "mini-food plots" I'm experimenting with. Basically, just raking away the leave and debris in sunny spots in the woods and then raking in seed before a good rain hits. You can see our driveay/road in the background. They often come across it in the woods and use it as a travel route out to an alfalfa field.

I use ladder stands all the time & have one Double-it's a pain to set up but worth it for me as my wife goes to fil sometimes & my 2 girls will be Bowhunting this year. I also have a 16' single that I put up with a 12 footer along side for hunting & filming. I think I have 5 ladder stands, 1 ground blind,2 hanging stands & 4 stick ladders. I am putting the rest of my stands up this coming weekend & my ground blind. Everything will be ready for the Oct. 1st opener. I have a deer hauler I take them in & out of the woods on since we go in on foot. No ATVs ect.
Good Luck to those getting a Sept. start.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

As to T in PA3's question, I shoot a Mathews FX and have been shooting it now for 4 years, wouldn't trade it for a bow in the world, not that other bows are bad, but I really like the way my bow feels and shoots.

chucker34, thanks man I'm hoping it will be a good season for both me and everyone on the team. One thing is for sure I am going to try to hunt every day during rut, thats what I did last year and man do you really catch the big ones moving. I counted 13 different buck in my area last year, as compared to seeing 4-5 dif bucks. So rut is what Im counting on.

chucker34, that food plot thing looks like a good idea, putting it in the woods that is, that way the deer feed and come through there more, cause its secluded.

Hey all, sorry for being MIA for a few days. Season opened this morning and I've been busy getting ready. Saw 9 bucks and 8 does opening morning, but no shooters. It was cool, which is unusual this early in Sept but let me tell you, it is a relief to know that hunting season is open. I came in a crashed though, so the wife knows it's time again. I'm back out tomorrow morning, so keep your fingers crossed.

kcison-sounds like your in the right spot-just be patient for the BIG ONE.
I have often thought of going to land between the lakes for a get away Bowhunt-do you know how it is or ever Bowhunted there? Any other decent public places?
I hate going to a new place but have done excellent in the past in New Mexico, Mn., Colorado, Wisconsin, N.C. & a few others just by doing a little research. Keep us informed. Good Luck....

5 more days and I'm out to the woods. Opening day here in Maine for expanded archery this coming Saturday. Getting pumped to go. Plan on heading out around 4:30 A.M. so that I can get up and be quiet by daylight.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

Wow Kelly. Sounds like a nice core herd you've got. Good luck! And good luck Amhrdwd! We start one week from Saturday and I am pumped. Just hung the new ladder stand on Monday and will try to take a pic sometime this week. It took 3 guys pushing and pulling as hard as we could with ropes to get it up. Not necessarily cause it weighed so much (125 pounds) but cause it was awkward and a majority of the weight at the top of the stand.

How's everyone else doing with scouting and such? I've seen some BIG tracks but captured none of them on camera. Bought some brassica and the like seed and planning to plant this week in some more mini-foodplots. The first few with cereal grains are getting trampled.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

ddlyrfl3006, I like the first draft but think the face is a little too much. He looks a little too freaked out. :DBut I like the concept. How about a close-up of a big brute's head with the two arrows across it and DEERmenators under it? What does everyone else think?

ddlyrfl3006 09-05-2006 03:19 PM

doesnt matter to me, im open to suggestions, no ones gonna hurt my feelings if you dont like it. everyone else agree w/ chucker, or any other suggestions?

Heading out to Mississippi River Bottoms (Iowa) to put out a ladder stand (new spot). Very thick but last year was loaded with scrapes & rubs (found after season was over) & difficult to get into.
Opener is Oct. 1st.

RE: 21- Team Offical Thread

ahunter55, sounds like a great spot. Now you'll just have to figure how to get the brute you're after out! Good luck.

How goes it kcison? Any more action?

I'm fine with the face on the deer and the pic. I think it looks great. Was just making a suggestion and trying to get some conversation going to see if there were any other ideas to add to the original pic. Speak up guys or forever hold your peace!:D

Hey guys...been having to work rather than hunt.A couple of guys have been out on the farm, plenty of deer but no shooters. We're holding for 140+ this early in the year, just waiting patiently. I'm actually going out of the country for almost two weeks..ten year wedding anniversary on the 14th. I'm back on the 20th and willbe back in the woods on the 23rd. I'm hoping that it will be calm here and some big deer may move back in.

I'm fine with whatever logo you guys want. Anybody have an opening weekend in teh next few weeks. I'll tell you, it's abig relief to know you can actually get out there. Best of luck to anyone out there hunting and I'll see you all when I get back.

Chucker34-since this is my 50th year of Bowhunting I have plenty of young sons, son-in-laws that are always EAGER to drag my BRUTE out. They need that experience-not me. Hell, in May they lined up to get my 150# hog out of the timber (in Oklahoma). One on each leg-I could hardly keep up just following they move so fast. Being old has some(not many)advantages.
