I'll give you guys an update. I haven't posted much on the regular board about my latest happenings for fear of being flamed. I've shot, and lost two dandy bucks this year. The first being a @140" as a straight ten point. The shot was low, and I don't believe the deer was fatally wounded. I had good blood for the first hundred yards, and he then bedded down. After he got up, I could only find drops of blood here and there and that went on for about a mile before the blood finally ran out. He never bedded down again. A week later, I had yet another opportunity on an even larger buck. This one being a huge eight point. I would estimate him to be in the high 140's to 150 range. He was ONLY 6 yards! 6 yards and quartering away! You couldn't ask for a better shot. But, it was probably too close. I don't know exactly what happened on the shot, because the buck turned 180 degrees and I couldn't see where the arrow hit. Nearly the same story as the first buck. I had four people helping me the next day, we tracked him definitely for a mile on only drops of blood before finally running out of blood. He never bled good. I held the draw about to the point that I could no longer hold it on that deer. I must have severely pulled the shot and put it in front of his shoulder, and exited the brisket. No idea really. Before I get flamed or any accusations are raised; I shot my bow all summer. I shoot practice arrows each time I enter the stand. I have practiced broadheads, etc., etc., etc. No idea what the deal is, just bad luck I guess...2X. I'll be rifle hunting, as well as headed to Iowa for shotgun season, and I'll be back home to hunt our late season. Just had a rough year thus far.

James, that is bad luck but no flaming from me. It happens to everyone sometime. I helped a buddy search until 2am for a nice buck he shot a week ago. Mostly bean stubble field, harder than hell to find blood at night in a cut bean field. He was out the next morning and found blood again and followed best he could. His buck traveled almost a mile with little to no blood most of the way. Even with a pass through if no major arteries or vitals are hit they can make it alright. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Not much team talk here guys. Hows everyone's season going? I have a excuse, I have been sitting ina tree trying to score for our team. I did that tonight with a nice 10 pointer.Ill post the pic in the main forum I guess. Not sure what he will score but I am indeed exausted from getting him out of the woods by myself. Hope you guys have good luck here in the remainder of the season. Let's make a run at it!
