Good luck switch! I'm jealous! I'm heading into the woods as well tonight, but just to pick up the 3-D course targets. Still time in the outdoors though. I hope you can tag one and gt our team on the board. The pressure is on as you have the first season to open up! Go get 'em!

First of all the comment on WI! We just like to extend our hunting seasons! IL is better :)
Yeah you think what you want. I wish I had a place up in Buffalo County. Every state has their hotspots. I do like what IL is doing with CWD. NOTHING. Sure wish the WI DNR would take note of that. Our rules for that are just crazy.

Well I will be out in the trees this weekend. Gonna be hot but I will be going back Tues-Thrus and that sounds like highs in upper 40's to low 50's.:D

Morning gents. HAd a busy weekend, just nothing related to hunting, which kinda sucked. A friend of mine was hunting in WI and saw one real nice 10 but it never got closer than about 70 yards. I never made it over to pick up my trail camera either, which I had planned to do on Sunday, because the state attorney called me and I went to the courthouse and did some interpreting. Can't pass up $30/hr.

I'm glad you saw some critters in WI switch. Hopefully you can whack one pretty soon. I think maybe on Weds I'm going to go and get my camera and then I'll post any monsters that may be on it. Back to work for me now.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Well I did get us on the board but not with much. I got a chance at a 3 point in FULL Velvet and took it. I have been hunting for 27 years and have never had a chance so I lived up to our team name. It only scored 34 5/8 but it is that much more then I have helped my team the last 2 years. I will write more about it in a bit and post a picture in the contest thread. My son got a doe 1 hour into the season. I got mine on Saturday night and then last night Matt got another doe off the same stand I got my buck on Saturday with his RECURVE. I got him a hoyt gamemaster 55 pound recurve for graduation. He wanted so bad to get a deer with both this compound and recurve before he left for the Navy and he did both on the opening weekend. Now we just need to get Tim a deer. Gonna be a great season. Good luck to the rest of you.

Congrats wihunter402, your on the board and currently running 4th. ;)

I know I know there is only 3 entries, I'm putting you behind team 36...we are already on top. [8D] :D

Thanks Rob. I am pretty happy about it. It was a great weekend and I will be out there again tomorrow thru Thursday and then again over the weekend. Like I said I gotta get Tim a deer now.

So Team 36 has all their deer tied up somewhere?? I didn't think that was allowed for this contest.;) Guess maybe you all should start putting up some number then eh?? So far a 34 5/8is beating you and 38 other teams.:D

Hey I wanted to mention to you all as well that my camera STILL is not working. It is that Cuddeback. I don't want to report all the problems with it on a thread of its own until I find out if they will do ANYTHING for me. I have sent it in twice and they keep replacing boards but nothing is working. This WOULD have been my third season with this camera. It has taken a total of ZERO pictures for me this year. Now I don't get a lot of time to check it all summer but when I do I like to have pictures. After I got it back the second time I put it out. Well is SAID it got 17 pictures. I looked at the card and it had NOTHING on it. I formatted a different card and put that in thinking MAYBE it was just a card. Well now I got 28 pictures when I got it on Saturday. Look at them and again NOTHING. I formatted a thrid card and put that in it. All three of these cards have worked in the past and I formatted them all everytime so it shouldn't be that. I will check it again this week and see. If it is still dead then I don't know what to do other then report all of this on these message boards so others know how poor their customer service is. I don't know what they should do but I think only 2 years from a $400 camera is WRONG.

:D:D:DWay to go wihunter!!! We are on the board and that's all that counts! I wish I was able to help you out, but the people here in IL apparently think that October 1 is some magic date. I would have had a hard time passing a velvet buck myself, so no shame in that! Get a pic up here so we can all check him out. Congratulations!!!!!!!

Thanks Mike. I know he is small but the velvet thing just got to me. Maybe that is all we will need to get over the hump in the end. Posted a pic on the score thread but here it is on ours as well. Gonna head out tonight and not be back until Thursday night. Good luck everyone.

Looks good WI, nice shot too, smashed him good. What kind of camo is that you are wearing on top? I like it, good for open areas, like hardwoods after the leaves drop. Good luck in the coming days as well. I'm heading to the pro shop tomorrow night to do some shooting and final final tuning before season., Have a wedding in Chicago this weekend so those days are shot and all day in court tomorrow, weds, and thurs doing translation, so my week is pretty much spoken for sadly. Again, way to get our team on the board!

Nice work WI. I can't wait to put some brown on the ground. I'll be in the woods this weekend and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to help out the team.
Ialso like the camo.Although, I've decided to go with Predator Fall Grey. I think it's a coin flip between asatand predator.
Anyhow, great job!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

I was presented with a very interesting/tempting offer. The pro-shop owner and I have become friends and he owns somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,000 acres of land. Well, there is one particular piece of farm that he has set aside for stricty deer management. He has offered me a chance to lease this piece of ground for six weeks during this deer season. The cost is $500. The only catch is that there are trophy fees as well. Any deer over 160 incurs additional costs on a set scale. I am battling inside my brain because of the $ part of it. I know that the first $500 for the lease is not a problem right now. The problem is when/if I shoot a big deer, which is damn near guaranteed out there, that I don't think I will be able to put the bread together for it. A 160" deer is $500 more. Plus, any deer of that size I am going to mount, so there is nearly another $500. Any of you guys have advice for me on this situation. My wife is pretty luke warm on the idea, based on the money as well. I have three other properties that I am hunting, but this leased ground is the finest deer country I have ever seen and the pictures of 3 deer over 180" and numerous in the 130-160 range are so hard to pass up. I'm also afraid to pass it up because I don't this to be a situationo of "well, you had your chance" and then not be considered for other offers. Hunting should not be this stressful!!!! All opinions are welcomed!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

First off thanks everyone. Yes it is ASAT. I got it for last season and really like it. It has been a very busy season already. I shot a doe on Wednesday and Matt got a 7 point on Thursday. So far I have the velvet buck and a doe, Matt has a Doe, nub with his recurve and a 7 point. We did all that in just 6 days. Going out again this weekend in the rain to try to get Tim a deer. Freezer is looking real good right now.

Mike I really don't know what to tell you. For ME I don't have the money for that. To be invited as a guest for a hunt I think I would do some thing like that. Then if I got lucky enough to get a big one I still might be able to do something for getting it mounted. Good luck to you with your decision. I do agree with you that hunting should NOT be this stressful.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Hey everyone. Tomorrow Matt leaves for the Navy and I won't be out hunting again until Oct 21st. We have had a great season so far. Matt added a big old doe to his total on Saturday night so he ended his season with 4 deer in 8 days. I had a chance at another small buck but I didn't shoot. Really need to shoot more does. I saw a total of 23 deer Saturday from 2 different stands and 22 of them were doe. So even though I am done helping theteam I will still be checking in.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

6 days until we open here in IL!!!! My best friend smashed an 11-point last night in Rusk County, WI. Double lunged and he went about 45 yards. He thought it was an 8, but he has a forked G-2 and two 3" kickers on the brow tines. REal nice deer. wihunter, sounds like you guys are stacking up some deer. Good work! Are you able to take another buck? I can't remember how WI works on that. If not, keep getting those does. I sharpened my broadheads last night and they are shaving my arm, so that should be sufficient, now I just need to send them through some fur!

wihunter402 09-25-2006 11:25 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Cool about your friend. Bet you just can't wait to get out. WI is very strange since I hunt in the CWD Management area. I get up to 4 tags PER DAY and they are good for buck or doe. Now we know we have a big doe problem where we are at. We have a rule in camp that if you see a buck and you want to shoot it that is fine for your FIRST one. After that it must be something big. Now we will make exceptions for unique deer. I NEVER would have shot that 3 point had it not been for the velvet. So for now I will just keep shooting does if I get the chance and then come November I will be big buck hunting only.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

I just talked to my brother and he went and got the memory card from his trail cam today. He had 85 pictures, every one was of bears. Not a single deer in the pics. All times of day, even at noon there is a sow and cub in there. One of the bears is a monster boar. We have the feeder suspended in a tree and the eye hook is up about 7' or a little more. I'm 6'10" and the bear is licking the hook that I had to raise my arm to put in. He's definitely a giant. Too bad Michigan is so judicious with the bear tags or he could be his! Hopefully he makes it until next year because he is a definitely booner. Biggest one we have ever seen by far, and we had one last year that we thought was a monster! Hopefully the deer show up now though. I can't seem to get the pics to load for some reason...I'll keep trying though.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Yeah, that is a nice bear. There is no pressure on bears where we hunt, so I think he'll make it barring some kind of illness or just old age. I'm sure hoping we can get drawn. We will have enough points to geta tag, based on how the tags were allocated this year. One of the problems is that the regions are so huge so it doesn't take very many people on tons of land to use up the allotted permits. One thing is for sure, the bear population is thriving so getting one is not usually a problem once a tag is drawn.

Right now though, deer are on the most wanted list!!! The weather looks promising for Sunday, a little warmer than I would prefer, but not hot, so that's good.My wife will be happy though since it isn't going to be cold. Hopefully we can put a good showing in for this contest.

I saw the one I want!!! My friend Ross and I were harvesting soybeans and we could see a deer come out the timber about 600 yards away. We finished the harvest and got in my truck and got closer, about 75 yards, and he was a real nice 9 point. He trotted off and we drove a bit farther and he came about about 10 yards from the tree I am going to hunt on Sunday!!!! As if sleeping wasn't hard enough!!! There were a bunch of does around too, so hopefully on Sunday I can draw blood!
