My god that is alot of deer. Seems a bit irresponsible actually, to me at least. Personally, there's no way I could shoot that may deer, donation or not. I would just feel too greedy I think, but no doubt there are people that do it. Hopefully there will be some left for next year!

mike : im good with getting an alternate

wi hunter: that had to suck with you falling and everything but its good to hear your shooting good! season starts here in 9 days!:D

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Yeah Mike I don't know anyone that will shoot that many. Last year the 3 of us only shot a total of 3 deer with bow and NOTHING with a gun.

Here is the xRay of my ankle after the surgery. It did SUCK. October 23rd, 2004. Sad part is that was day one of18 days over a23 dayperiod I hadoff of work that year to hunt. It was going to be my year. Then in January my now ex decides she wants a divorce. Guess that was when things started to get better actually.:D

That is one hell of an x-ray. Lots of hardware in there! I messaged Rob about an alternate so I'm guessing we should have one coming up soon. Back to work for me...yippy.

wihunter402 09-07-2006 08:19 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Yes there is a lot of metal in there. 2 plates and 12 screws. I was captain of "Lucky 13" that year on here. Not so lucky for me. Double Creek was on my team that year and I remember him telling me that I got "screwed literally".

Sorry to hear you are back to work. I never get anything done this time of year so I mainly just research things. I have wanted to get the summit climbing system for 2 years now and I think I am just going to make my own. For those that don't know what that is it is basically just a large rope tied at the top and bottom of the tree. Then you attach to it while climbing and decending. Besides myself I have my son Matt (18) who is joining the Navy and my girl friends son Tim (15) that are both hunting with me. NONE of us want to walk up and see someone lying on the ground because of a fall from the tree. This might seem like a stupid question and I hope it is but does EVERYONE use a harness when hunting from a tree?

Ok back to research. Where is everyone else on this team. Only 3 or 4 of us talking on here.

YooperMike 09-07-2006 11:18 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

I was checking out that climbing system as well. I use a climber so I think would be a little tough to use. I use the prussic hitch that comes with it and slide it up the tree as I go, which also works well. I'm pretty much afraid of heights so I always use my harness, I'll get dizzy in high shoes for god's sake! But, I'm getting braver with my climber and just really more comfortable with being up in the air. My goal is to be able to hunt @ 20' come season. Friday I'm going out for more climbing practice so hopefully I can get that high before I chicken out. I seem to always look down at just the right time and realize how high I am. Maybe I should do it blindfolded and climb and then take it off, and viola, 20 feet! I am very happy with the stand though as far as stablity and ease of use. I'm also impressed with the construction, it doesn't even flex under my considerable bulk!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Just hangin' out at work again. Friday's are pretty laid back, which is nice. After work, I'm going to go and play with my climber again, try to set a new record for myself. Getting pretty hot here today, around 86 or so they say..I was much enjoying the cooler temps of earlier in the week. Tomorrow is a 3D tourney that i'm shooting in, so that is slated to be a good time, although rain is forecast. Pretty quiet otherwise! Take care team mates!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Pretty slow here as well. Just can't get my mind off of being in the trees. Probably won't be back to a computer until Monday (if I am lucky). As far as that rope climbing system goes I found Menards has 100 feet of a 3/8 rope but it says working load of only 244 pounds. I used some of this stuff to put small logs with my truck. I did have it break once but that was pulling a log I could not even lift. I would think it would work for this. Just not sure. Might have to try some test this weekend.

WiHunter, I will be hunting by Green Lake, WI. I need to get a doe out of the way! I shot today with broadheads. Everything seems to be working good. I am packing for Montanta tonight, as I leave on the 21st. First Bow Elk trip, I have to admit I am getting pumped.

Seems like we have a good team. That is one nice foodplot that Rick James put in.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Todd I don't know much about the hunting up there. I have always hunted either the southwest part of the state or north central. I have not been north for a long time. Get those does taken care of early. DNR wants to do earn a buck for a lot of zones next year IF they do not get a 2 to 1 doe to buck kill. I am in the CWD crap so I can shoot as many bucks and does as I want. Rule in camp is each guy (there are 3 of us total bow hunting) can shoot up to 3 does. We can shoot any buck that comes by for our first IF we want to but a second buck HAS to be a big mature one or we let them walk. The other two guys are my son (18) and he is leaving for the Navy on the 26th and my girl friends son (15) who got his first with a bow last year with me. Well good luck to you on that elk hunt. Be sure to get back here and stick a big old bruiser for the team.

Welcome Anthony T. Glad to have you aboard. We are NOT a very talkative team but maybe you can add to what we have. Looks to me like most of us are only on at work.:D

Well 5 days from right now I will be watching the sunrise over the hill. Can't wait to get back out.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Hey Todd, the hunting by Green Lake can be pretty good. I went to Ripon College for my undergrad, which is like 5 minutes from Green Lake. The area is mixed farmland and small timbered areas. Lots of rolling hills though in most of it. Shouldn't be a problem getting a doe as there are alot of deer in that area.

I was outside all weekend doing some final pre-season work on stand sites, and now all is set for the opener and I'll be staying out of the areas until the 1st. Things look good with lots of trakcs around the field edges and I put the camera out so hopefully i'll have some good pics to post.

I will PM Anthony as well to make sure he knows he's on our team.

Mike

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Mike thanks for PM'ing Anthony. That is cool that you have hunted WI too. I guess I was just thinking you hunted MI and IL. Have you ever hunted in Richland, Iowa or Sauk counties? Those are the ones where I have done about 90% of all my hunting. I used to got to Taylor county some but not for many years. Now I have 80 acres in Richland I do pretty much all my hunting right there. I kind of like knowing one area real well instead of lots of areas half assed.

Speaking of that, what else does everyone on here hunt. I USED to do a lot of hunting for everything. Now I pretty much do just archery deer and turkey. Sometimes I will do a little pheasant or grouse but not too much.

YooperMike 09-11-2006 03:16 PM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

I have hunted just in Green Lake county for deer. Lots of grouse/woodcock hunting in florence and forest counties though. When I lived in MI, we hunted grouse everyweekend pretty much when we weren't bowhunting. I'm getting excited already for turkey season next year down here. My wife REALLy wants to get a turk and I've been practicing with my mouth calls so I may even be able to get one to come in. But its deer on the brain now!

I have a few good stands up this year and I have a good feeling about them. I've been seeing a few good bucks and one really nice one. I'm going to focus on him for awhile and if I have to, I'll take one of the other ones if I can. Hopefully I'll have my new Bowtech paid for by then. :) I hunt private land in Va. and some Natl. forsest also.

Another Bowtech guy, that's what we like to see!!!! Glad to have you aboard Anthony! Hope you can get one of those big guys you've been seeing. Your season sure opens late, I don't think I could wait that long!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Man, I tell ya, it's rough. Wayy to long to wait. It'll give me time to get the new bow ready hopefully. I'd hate to have to use my ancient PSE baby G again!

wihunter402 09-12-2006 06:18 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Welcome aboard Anthony. Just what we need is another bowtec. Oh well I have heard that some deer can be killed with those.;) Maybe someday when you all get serious about archery you can step up to a Hoyt.:D

I wish I knew what I had running around in my woods. I havea cuddeback and the damn thing is really getting me upset. This WOULD have been its third season but so far no pictures. First it would just take pictures every 30 seconds until the batteries died. Well being I live in WI I thought they would be nice. I had to send it back with a check for $35 to get it fixed. Well since it was $400 I thought I better do that. Well I get it back and I kept getting "Camera failed" messages. I sent it back again paying only shipping to them this time and get it back and all I have gotten so far is NOTHING. The thing won't trigger. I replaced the batteries yet again (I think I have used 5 sets for ZERO pictures) and left it on the Saturday before Labor day. Gonna see this weekend if it has done ANY good. If I still get nothing I will be calling them yet again but this time I will be telling them to look here and see my review. I don't think they will like it.

WOW sorry I got to venting. You guys know I am just kidding about the bows. I shot the bowtec's and mathews before I settled on the Hoyt. All are GREAT. I just really liked that Trykon.

Does anyone else have any pictures of bucks in their area? We do have some nice ones posted so far.

This weather today is killing me! Its the coolest day we've had so far this early fall. 60 degrees, light breeze, little misty, overcast. WHY IS SEASON NOT HERE YET???? Just had to vent...sorry! I can't tinker with my gear any more or I will wear it out before I even use it. Patience is a virtue I apparently don't possess in any kind of sufficient quantity.

Hey everyone!

Were getting close now! I just shot 5 arrows all with broadheads (NAP) Crossfire & Nitrons - they are flying great! :)

Welcome aboard Anthony. Where are you from?

Tonight I went to hang a stand - Saw a really nice buck, bedded down on a fenceline right next to a cornfield.

I will be leaving for Wisconsin on Friday, I plan on hunting all weekend. The goal - Harvest 2 Does! I am going to try to film myself, well have to see how that goes.

Hey guys,
I've been so busy with my new job, I haven't been able to log on for the past couple of weeks. I see that we have a team name and avatar. Nice choice. How do I change my avatar to the double lung one?
I see that several of your seasons will be opening soon. My season opened on August 15th and I've only been hunting a couple of times.Unfortunately, my job has kept me on the road, out of state, for the last three weeks. I had a lay-over at O'Hare yesterday, to bad I wasn't baggin an Illinois bruiser instead of sitting atthe airportwatching paint dry because my flight was delayed4 HOURS!!!Considering I live and hunt in SC,actually being inIllinoismade me feel like the homeless guy looking through a windowat an upscale restaurant watching people shove lobster tail and filet mignon down their throat. You canalmost taste it...and then reality punches you in the stomach. lol. One of these days.

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Cnapeswitchback - How is the trigger speed on those cameras of yours. I also see that Gander has one (I forget which one) that is like 2.0 meg for $100. Even if they only last a year I still would be saving money. The Cuddeback is a great camera when it works but this is just a wasted season now.

Dangolbowhunter sorry to hear you got stuck so long just looking at the midwest. IL is nice but if it was really all that everyone makes of it then why do all the people from IL drive up to WI for hunting and fishing? Because it is BETTER up here.:D Sorry Todd but you must know that.

Anthony WHEN you get one this fall we will get you thru scoring it. It really is not very difficult.

And Mike - I SO know what you mean about the weather. Then this weekend it is supposed to get so warm.[:'(] I will still be out. I do think that I could have sat in the tree all day yesterday. We got a little rain but it was not much.

WI, I think we get started at about the same time everyday! Another great day here, 55 degrees and cloudy. HEading to the pro shop (BlueRidge Backwoods) tonight for some final adjustments before season and some shooting as well. Probably do a techno hunt. Just another day of work otherwise. I think Friday I'm going to go and get the memory card from my camera and see what it shows me. I was going to leave it sit until season but there is NO WAY that I will make it that long, and if there is a big buck on it, my sleep habits are going to be worse than they already are. Alright, back to work!

Dang...good to have you back!

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Mike I am guessing we do. I work 7:00 to 3:25 Mon-Thurs and 7:00to noon on Fridays YEAR ROUND.:D I am gonna be off tomorrow though as I have to do some moving from my old house to my new one. Long story but I got the house in the divorce and kept it until my son graduated. Well I moved now with my new lady and the old house just won't sell. Guess that is why I got it in the divorce. Since Matt is going to the Navy on Sept. 26th he is gonna head to the cabin and hunt from the 16th to the 25th. I will be off next week Tuesday - Thursday to hunt with him. Then also both weekends. Gonna be a strange season after he leaves. My girlfriends son (Tim) like to bow hunt and got his first deer with a bow last year (4 point). Matt and Tim's bucks can be seen on www.maffet.com by clicking on the bowhunting 2005 link. Not a great site but it let's me post pictures for others to see. Gonna start working on redoing some of it soon.

Nice pictures of the deer WI. I work from 7:30-5:00 Monday-Thurs and 7:30-12:30 on Fridays which is real nice. There is a park here that I think I am going to hunt on Friday afternoons. It is doe only, but there are some GIANT bucks in it as well. Maybe I'll take a doe, but I really want to get some pics of a big buck. Last year a guy shot one on the property that borders the park that was the biggest non-typical shot last year in the country. Just a monster. I saw it at the IL Deer Classic and it was pretty impressive. That buck lived in the park and just wandered out occasionally. It doesn't get hunted much either because of the doe only rule. Doesn't bother me!

wihunter402 09-13-2006 09:31 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Thanks Mike. Isn't that early done on Friday GREAT? Sounds like a great park.I would love to have an area like that to hunt. Shooting does is still a lot of fun for me. I like to say that I am a DEER hunter not a BUCK hunter. Yes I would love to get the big buck and I do pass smaller ones some times but a nice doe comes by and I will almost always shoot her.

YooperMike 09-13-2006 10:54 AM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

I called that park...and I missed the lottery deadline. This is the first year for the lottery and it was poorly advertised since they only had 120 applicants, but whatever. I'll just have to drive the perimeter and ty and get some pics. I too an a deer hunter, does are delicious and good practice for when the big boy comes by.

And yes...fridays being short work days is awesome!

wihunter402 09-13-2006 01:49 PM

RE: 30-Team "Double Lung" Official Thread

Sorry to hear you missed the deadline. I used to hunt with a guy that would always say "shooting a doe is like kissing your sister". Well I always told him it was good practice. I know it does help me keep a LITTLE bit more composed when a buck comes by.

First of all the comment on WI! We just like to extend our hunting seasons! IL is better :)

I will be leaving for WI, on Friday, as always I sure I will be stopping at the Gander Mountain in Madison. I am really excited this year, I feel like is is going to be a good year. I am going to be very busy the next few days so I wont be posting as often. Here is a recent Camtrakker photo.

Good Luck Everyone.

Hey Todd, nice deer, you too switch! Check out the Sportsman's Warehouse just south of Milwaukee if you are over that way. ARound Mukwonago I believe. Really nice store.

I think on Sunday Im going to go and get my memory card from my cam and hopefully have some racks to show you guys. I shot my bow last night at the pro shop and did some final tuning and everything seems to be flying real nice. My Slick Tricks sure do fly straight. I shot Stingers last night too but I was consistently 2" left with those. I think for this year it is going to the Slicks for sure now. A couple weeks ago I posted that my NAP rest broke, well, my wife had the same one until last night, when her's broke as well. NAP Quicktune 2100. Both of ours had the launcher break off, along with myriad other problems with mine. Must be a design flaw in it somewhere. She is going to the qAD Ultrarest now too. I'm happy with mine so far, real good treestand/hunting rest since you can lock the launcher up so the doesn't go anywhere.

Good luck in WI Todd. Hopefully you can start the bloodshed!
