Nice buck Scott, thats a great start for the team. Hopefully the rest of us can add some points to the board.

RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
No points for the team but at least I got a nice meat deer for the freezer. I have never seen as many deer in a single session than I did yesterday. Saw 15 or 20 doe as well as a 6 pointer and and a NICE 8 pointer that would not cooperate. I grunted, bleated, flipped the can and even beggedbut he was not buying. Could have taken a 33-35 yard shot but was sure he was gonna hit my scent trail and just walk right in and a man has got to know his limitations.
Even with a gut pile on the ground I WILL be in that stand Monday morning. Ithink there may have been a deer convention in the area. Does with twins, does with triplets. After hitting and not finding the biggest buck I have ever seen in the woods last weekend I had to redeem myself with a doe. |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
Scored on a beat up old veteran yesterday AM. The left antler looks like he broke it off brawling over the babes. The right antler is very odd. Looks like he damaged it in velvet or had an unseen injury somewhere. I may find a broken bone or something when I butcher him.
Took him at 33 yards thru both lungs with a crossbow. First buck since my last surgery. He came in like a dog on a leash to one of those silly Buck Bombs about 15 minutes after I fired it off.Ran about 80 yards give or take but ended up falling over 40 yards or so from my stand. Weighed 170" and have not even thought about scoring him as we are so far down in the running and I have no idea how to score. What do you guys think of that right antler? He could not even lift his right ear. Odd...He would have been an eight but the battered beast ended up with six. PS.. Not even the biggest deer I saw yesterday. Just could not get a nice eight pointer to come in closer than 50 yards so I am gonnago get him next weekend. >>>>>>>>>>Whack!! ! ![]() ![]() |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
Great work, way to "Whack!!!" one.
I think your correct that hes older, its a screwy rack but it looks like he has (or had) some mass. You definately have to score him, we aren't out of the running, heres the link, http://www.pope-young.org/ScoreSheets/T-WTC.pdf It looks like theres a G1-G3 on the right, but only a G1 on the left, but with the beams, circumferences and spread there are some inches there. The teams that win these things don't win with acouple of 200"ers, the winners are theteams that post the most kills. If everyone contributes the way you have we'll be in good shape. As for me, I just got back from rifle camp, and am heading on a Caribou hunt in a week, but don't worry, I have till the end of the year to geta whitetailwith the bow. Where is everyone else? I haven't seen any posts from some team members in a while, how about some updates guys? |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
Where the heck is everyone, out in the woods I hope.
I'll be out of the loop for a week, going to Northern Quebec for Caribou. When I get back I have a brand new ladder stand to put up, and the perfect spot for it. good luck everyone |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
I am still around......
Not quite sure what happened to our team cammaradiere.... Congrats on the whitetail Planter. If you need help scoring him give me a PM and I will walk you through it. |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
Hey guys, I don't know what happened but all the deer I had been seeing are GONE!! Been out several times and nothing at all! A friend invited me over to hunt on his land and nothing there. I've got to come up with a new strategy.
Hope everyone's having better luck than me! |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
I'm back from caribou, I didn'tuse my bow up there, but the freezer is full, now back to white tails with the stick and string.
I have three more weekends, and am confident because I got a climber back from a friend, and purchased a new ladder stand so I can move around a bit instead of being anchored in my permanents. They are out there, I missed the rut but hopefully I can hit the 2nd or 3rd rut. Good luck team. |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
Well, its down to the wire for me. The only close place thats open for me is a farm that still has a lock-on up from last year, the owner says tracks are heavy beneath it.
Any one on the team still hunting? I've been reading the thread about lack of participation on Teams and what can be done about it next year. How many of us are still checking the thread and part of the team? |
RE: 34-Team "Heavy Horned" Official Thread
It seems to me that a few us us tried to get things goingon this team without much success.I just hope all of you got out int the woods a few times. I know I beat a path to more than a few stands...
I think we all have to take into account this is not a team sport and if you have ANY free time always spend it hunting and not on- line. Have fun boys |
