I should have some scenic idaho pics up soon guys, hang in there.
I think its safe to say we are better whitetail slayers than elk hunters, so don't worry we'll be putting some bucks on the ground this fall.

Those are some nice pictures Rybo. That moose looks huge. Not sure what one would do after shooting an animal that large???I guess you'd start by calling anyone who has ever owed you a favor, then renting a horse and a dumptruck. LOL

That does look like a big Shiras.... Most of the ones I saw were much, much smaller than that one, the one I helped load quaters into the back of the guys truck didn't seem much larger than a good Bull Elk but my memory is fading... Guy was just lucky that I was driving by and offered to help him out, lol. Even luckier I guess that it ran towards a road instead of away from the road.

86 hours untilwe load up the gear and kick off 2006. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in over a week. I have no fingernails left. I'll get out this evening and shoot a few arrows, but that will probably make it worse.
Our opener is supposed to top out in the low-mid fifties, probably in the mid-forties in the a.m., no rain. Things are still pretty green around here, so visibility will be limited. PA archery license sales are down, under 300,000 again, which is a good sign b/c some of our areas are getting crowded.
In other news, I went out scouting on Saturday and I stopped at a newpiece of groundthat I got into (a likely weekday evening hunt). The deer sign looked good, and I was working my way around a bench when I just happened to look out through the woods and something yellow caught my eye. "I know that shade of yellow," I thought to myself. I checked it out, and sure enough it was a nice solid three-pronged stalk of ginseng - yellowed and the berries and some leaves were already off. So, I started gridding the hillside, and I bet I found 200+ plants in a little spice thicket. I didn't pick any of it, but it's stored in the memory bank. Really odd because this is not an area where you'd expect to see any ginseng.

Yea Fran, really getting pumped for the weather outlook for saturday. Not sure of my game plan yet. Typically I like to whack a doe, I'm a little behind on scouting some of my areas, but others I know from years of hunting. I might take a stab at sitting tight on a bedding area if I get a good wind. The work schedule will leave mucho mucho hunting time, so I figured I can do a lot of in season scouting as I go, I am a firm believer in firgure what areas are hot NOW.
I wouldn't know a ginseng plant if you pegged me in the head with it. I do know where some sheep's head mushrooms are that I need to pay a visit to. Yummy
Fry them babies up with some tenderloin.

I wouldn't know what ginseng looked like if it jumped up and bite me in the arse... Oh well... Sunday morning is our opener... Just can't hardly contain myself and now I find out I will be driving most of the night on Saturday for my Uncls 50th wedding anniversery... How dare he
Oh well, maybe I'll do an afternoon hunt instead of a morning one... Or maybe I will just set the ground blind up and put a sleeping bag in it and sleep in the field but I am afreaid my snoring might scare every deer within 50 miles,lol... Or maybe it will sound strangely like a deer grunt.
This is the only buck photo I have gotten on the trail cams but that is not to surprsing... Wish I could see more of him, not a real big guy as far as I can tell but the photo is both dark and not to great.
