We got hit with some serious flash flooding and lost a bridge and garage. My mom's house got minor flood damage, and my grandparents had some damage as well. Definetly nothing like La, but we still got hit. Going to shoot some tomorrow...and I can't wait to get this new roll of film developed from the trail camera.

Sorry to hear about the damage HC. Hope you are able to get everything cleaned up before the season. Post some of the pictures when you get them developed. I will be checking mine this weekend and I hope to have some good ones. Have at least one pretty decent buck running around. Just waiting to get a better picture of him.

got lots of pictures of does when i checked the digi trail cam today. not too disappointed though, because these does are pretty consistently around this camera....and when rut comes around....where there are does, there will be bucks...:)

RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread

Vogt - my feelings exactly. We have lots of does on our place and only see a few bucks on camera every summer. Come November there are always a lot of bucks running around. That's why we have found it so important to pattern the does and only shoot a couple for the freezer in Sept or early Oct. After that we let them all walk.

Got back some pic's of more does, the spike again, and what looks like a nice buck....he's standing back from the camera when the shot wentoff...but it looks like the frame of the antler's are nice and tall. Maybe he'll come in for a closer pic over this labor day weekend. :-)

Well guys I have good and bad news. Below is a picture of a real nice one on our property. Bad news is that tornado really tore our woods up. We lost most every big tree we had. Still have some for the stands but the deer patterens have totally changed. Guess finding him now will be a little more difficult. Good thing I am up for the challange.

Illinois Bowhuntin 09-06-2005 03:51 PM

RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread

I went to school with a guy that is a firefighter in Pesotum.I cant remember his name for the life of me.I seenhim this year at Fire college. You may know I am talking about. He is orginally from East Moline.
Has any of your guys signed up for going down south. My Captain and I have. They are taking 1000 2 man team,s from Volunteer dept to do search and rescue and to help FEMA out.We are waiting to hear if we have been accepted yet. I am kinda worried about just what our jobs will be since I know there isnt much in the line of survivors any more.I am guessing we will be collecting bodies more then anything.
Since I more then likely going to be gone until the start of the seasonI am doing all of my scouting and stand hanging and such now.

RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread

Hey Slayer,
Guess thinking about it I won't be needing your Dad to take a look at our place. Pretty much any decent hardwood is on the ground in a mess or split up but still standing. I had a forester come out about a year and a half ago to tell me what I could do with some of it. He just told me to clean out some of the iron wood and stuff then have someone out to look into logging. I had one hickory that was just tall and straight. He figured 2 logs (32 feet) out of it and 24 inches. The thing split from top to bottom and is bent over. Now all it will be is smoking wood for the smoke house. Guessing it would have been a pretty valuable tree. At least we are going to get some great deer bedding out of it. Now if I could just re-pattern the deer.

RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread

Hey guys, just checking in since its been a while.
I won't be around opening weekend so you guys will have to score big without me. I'm heading down to the city of New Orleans as a volunteer firefighter, working under FEMA's authority, for 2 weeks beginning September 19th. That brings me home the 4th of October and I'm not sure how much hunting I will be able to do that week trying to recover.
The plan, I'm told, is 14 days of 16 hour shifts so I expect to be ready fora rest when I get back - well maybe I can just rest in my climber stand??? ;) We'll see.

From what I understand, they are restoring power quickly and with all the appliances left on and broken, gas pipes busted, etc, there are fires popping up with every restored grid. I'm also a nationally licensed EMTso I will be able to utilize those skills to out of state legally.

I've heard that poisonous snakes and alligators are roaming the city looking for food - not sure how much of that to believe but who knows.

Anyhow, wish me luck and I'll look forward to seeing some big racks on my return!!! GO TEAM 24 - FEAR THIS

Goodluck down there Hazcon. My season won't even start till you are already back, but I plan on keeping the team motivated and hopefully tagging some good deer early to get us on the board.

Also be careful down there, the horror stories about looting, raping, and killing is disgusting to hear about. So take care of yourself.

Hazcon do be careful down there. Not sure how muchof all the stories I believe either so it will be good to hear back from you first hand how it is. Our season starts here on the 17th but with this weekend up in the 90's I am really not sure how soon I will be getting out. No way I want to sit out in this kind of heat.

RI, I'll be hunting around Windsor. You will only be about 35 minutes away. There are good deer where I am. I'm told that there
are more deer around that area...so good luck. I might go to my uncles for a little. He lives in Cheshire. Last year there were a pile of turkeys there with a couple 20lb toms I had in bow range. This year I have tags;).

Well BigG, I don't do the fall turkey thing, though I probably should. I sometimes find myself surrounded. The property owners in Lebanon are dead set against turkey hunting, they think the birds keep the tick population down. While I was scouting the other day, My wife was relaxing in the car watching what i was kicking up when I went into the woods, a few does, fox, and she saw a small flock of turkeys. I was picking up feathers evereywhere, lol. If you need a turkey hunting partner next spring, let me know, lol. Your uncle's place sounds like the place to be! I got a nice Tom in East Hampton CT this past spring. I may check that property out for deer this fall too. I'm a little dissapointed in the Lebanon property. Good deer sign, but also my 100 acres turned into 30 b/c the landowner who gave me permission said that his brother owns 70 and he would probably let me hunt. Turns out he already has peeps hunting his property. What's worse is the 30 I have permission to hunt on also has a husband/wife that hunt it as well. The two best spots I found already had stands up nearby. Oh well, I'll be out on Thursday, we'll see what happens!

RI, There is some public land I believe down your way. Hey, I wouldn't pass up pudlic land without checking it out. Of the 5 bucks in 7 years 4 came off public land. I go down the end of Sept. to scout for deer, but more so for hunters;). Remember public land boarders private.......hunt the edges.

My dad got a 26lb tom and my uncle got a 23lb in Wolcott at my cusines place.

BigG-
The president of my R&G club had trail timers on some public land in CT with a bunch of hits. I may check out some of that land with him a little later on in the month. Also, I just got off of the phone with the East Hampton landowner, he is going to verify its okay with the Mrs. that its okay with her for me to hunt there, and I'll find out tomorrow. This past spring, he told me there wasn't much whitetail activity there, but tonight he said there have been a bunch of activity.... You don't suppose the apples in his back yard has anything to do with it, do ya? Also, there is a ghost buck he has seen on the property once, supposed to be a bruiser. I scored some add'l private property in RI I haven't had a chance to look at yet, but I hope to get out Sunday to check it out. I have some other property in RI to hunt, public and private come 1 October, so this frustration is kind of temporary.

Well guys I've got good news and bad news. The Good news is that I'll be able to hunt opening weekend now. The Bad news is, at the last minute they cancelled my trip to New Orleans.
Louisiana decided at the last minute that they only wanted full time firefighters to volunteer their time [:@]. So the chief told them that if we all can't go then none of us will go! I've got to give him credit for that one but unfortunately that won't pay for the $300 I spent on the packing list they sent out, the 5 hours of work I missed, or the distress its caused my employer and family from having to change plans last minute, twice.[&o]
So anyhow, I'll be around.

BigG-
I was on stand getting lightly rained on for about maybe 2 hours when the sky opened up. I called it a day. I had 6 turkeys within 20 yards of my stand but didn't see any deer, except for one doe standing on the side of the road as I was driving there. I canned Friday because of the forcast, but should have hunted tho. Its about an hour and a half drive, so I didn't want a repeat of Thursday. Today my daughter had plans, so I couldn't make it. I will take a day or 2 next week and probably next Saturday. I have the all clear to hunt some property in East Hampton too, I may just check that out one day. Did you get out at all?
