RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
I have been getting out each weekend, in the morning and afternoons, never all day sits tho. I have been getting out each weekend usually saturday morning and afternoon, as well as sunday morning and afternoon, and occasionally monday morning. However, this last weekend, I only got out once on suday morning because I had to work saturday morning and the genius Bud Selig was only scheduling the cardinals games at 3pm......so that totally would ruin my hunting plans.
![]() Anyways, this weekend isnt looking too great either because I am scheduled to work saturday morning again. But I will be getting out there whenever I can. Good luck guys! |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
It rained hard here for 10 days straight since the last time I was out, and the rain finally ended Friday... Saturday had 35 PH sustained winds gusts way over 40. Now Between my daughter's birthday, mandatory training at work plus assorted other work fire drills, getting out hasn't been an option for a while. I'm set to go for this weekend tho, but it looks like the weather might make it another blow-out...
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Planning on getting out this weekend but they are talking about rain. I just let them talk because they never seem to know what is going to happen. Hell the weather men here can't even tell me what happened YESTERDAY much less tomorrow.
We have an early 4 day gun hunt here called the T-Zone. It runs Oct. 27-30. Really SUCKS because it causes the big boys to go nocturnal for a while. I am really hoping that we get some good weather the weekends of Nov. 5th and 12th. Those will be the best times here to be out. Not sure that I will be taking any vacation though. I'll post back here Monday or Tuesday and let you all know how the weekend went. |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Wi, Don't do that to me!!! I see you posted in the score card thread
and thought we had another one.:DI had a congrats already to.... Well tell him for me congrats.:) I have only been out a few times this week. We have been moose hunting. My nephew(14) on tuesday shot a 731lb 42" bull. It took us 3 hours to get to it with my tractor and 2 hours to get back in the dark. Good thing for the GPS!!!!! There would be no way we could have found it 2 miles in on the mountain. He was one happy 14 year old.;) I leave for my dad's tomorrow to go scouting. We have a cow tag to fill. He wants me to try to take it with the bow. He is going to go with the rifle. We have until next thursday, but I don't think it will take that long. I sure hope we have some better weather than we have been getting. Good Luck, G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Hey BigG,
Sorry about that man. He is such a busy kid. I don't ever remember being that busy as a kid. He is pretty special too. His mother and I got a divorce this past spring and I am now seeing someone that has a 15 year old son (Tim). He has always wanted to bow hunt but his dad never took him. Well I have taken it upon myself to show him all that I know. I talke to Matt (my son) about it and explained to him that I was NOT REPLACING him. He said "I know Dad, Just teach him everything that you taught me." Well Matt has also tried to help Tim and this weekend Tim and I are heading back out. Matt has told him to use his stands because Matt has all the best ones. Makes me very proud. I very much believe that if you TEACH a kid to hunt then they will stay out of trouble. Hunting is a much bigger rush then any drug could ever be. Anyway sorry to ramble. Give your Nephew a bit congrats from me as well. Post a picture of him with the moose. I would love to see it and I bet others here would too. Good luck filling that cow tag. Don't forget about the whitetails though.;) |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Wi, I here you..... Great job with both kids. I have 3 myself and the
2 older ones 9+12 have taken deer and turkey already. It's alot of fun. There is a post in the northeast forum for my "Fear This" brothers. Well gotta go we found 2 cows today and I am going to try for the smaller 350-400lb with bow. I did see a buck today scouting, but he was a long way away. I'll keep ya posted. G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
I'll check out the post in the NE section. I had NO luck this weekend for ME but Tim sure did. He got is first with a bow. It was a nice fork horn. He is my girl friends son. I am going to post about it in the bowhunting section later but here is the picture. He was one very happy guy.

RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Congrats to him WI!!! I'll bet he is still reliving those last few minutes over and over in his mind.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Wi, Congrats to the boy. Sounds like he will be hooked for a long
time.... Way to go getting him into hunting. Thats great... I just got back from hunting with my father.I ended up shooting this one because dad just couldn't go anymore due to his knees. I am going to post in the NE forum. My brother in law is onmy left. Again congrats to him. G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
I had an awesome hunt this morning guys. I saw a nice 8pt 100+ yards away. His rack was out just past his ears and tall. I tried a few grunt calls, both mature and young buck calls ... Nothing... Tried a little light rattling ...Nothing ... Then just as he was about to step into a field and disappear I gave him a doe bleat. Stopped him dead in his tracks... Looking... Looking... one more doe bleat and he was hooked. Within a minute he was 20 yards and broadside of my ground blind. After 5 minutes he decided he'd had enough and started walking away. Light doe bleat in the opposite direction of him ... and on a string he comes 15 yards of my blind and stands there for 15 minutes waiting for the doe to appear. He never presented a good shot but man was that fun!!! I was using the new Primos Rubberneck - man that thing sounds good!
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Haz, Sounds like a fun time. Do you like that call? I have
been thinking about getting one. When I hunted Illinois a few years ago I heard some monster grunts that didn't sound like any grunt tube I had..... G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Yes I definately like that call!!! It is the most realistic I've heard.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Can't wait guys, going to hunt central NY this weekend a few miles above Oneonta. There has already been several deer over 100" spotted this season by my friend that owns this place, and they were spotted last weekend 2x running does. Hopefully the weather is a bit colder than the weather man says, but weather is supposed to be good!! Can't wait!!
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Sounds like everyone is having a good time hunting, and congratulations to all who have got deer so far this year. I'm heading out to hunt Camp Ripley this coming weekend, and looking forward to a good hunt. Then I will be heading to Wi in 2 weeks. One of these places I know holds a good buck I know. Good luck to all, the rut is on!
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Success! Got one on the board for the team. I got this buck during Camp Ripley's 2nd hunt. He was the 3rd buck that came by that day, the first was bigger but out of range and the other was just a small spike buck. He came in to the grunt call when he was about 80 yards away and was 3 feet from my tree in about 30 seconds after I grunted. He caught a little wind of me and ran about 20 away and stopped. he was standing almost straight away but slightly to the right. Place the shot towards the back and the went through the liver, one lung and the heart. Went about 50 yards and fell over. Good luck to everyone else.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Congrats huntingMN....thats a nice buck.
As a matter of fact, that looks just like one I was going to attempt a shot at today.....however, my bow was hanging and I couldnt get it off and turned in time to set up for the shot.....cause he was at a trot.....anyways.... CONGRATS!! ![]() |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Oh, i forgot to add....this puts up into 5th place.....
Thats darn good so far.....out of 30 teams..... |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Good job huntingMN! I got out this afternoon to a spot I've been saving, but nothing was moving. Muzzleloader season starts tomorrow here, but I think I'm just going to stick with my bow when I can get out next.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
WHOOOOWHOOOOO Way to go huntinMN!!!! Good Looking Buck!
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Way to go MN. I was out with the bow and had a pretty different buck come up but I did not get a shot. One side is a beautiful 4 points just past the ear and the other is just a spike sticking straight up. Looks really goofy. Was not sure if I would even shoot him or not. Really want a big one and figure the only way that will happen is if I hold out and let the smaller ones walk. Anyway I will be going the next two weekends for sure. Not sure about getting any time off during the week but I will try.
Good luck to the rest of you. |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
MN, Nice Buck!! Congrats....... Our season is done here. I didn't
even see a buck. I have youth hunting with my kids this weekend then I will be headed to CT for a week of bowhunting. Hopefully the bucks will be moving then. G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Big G,
How can your season be done? It is only November 1st. I think I would have to move to a different state it that was the case here. Good luck on the youth hunt and in CT. |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
I have the next whole week off from work. I'll be camping in southern Illinois at a family farm and plan to spend as much time as possible in stand. I'll be hunting turkey and deer. I know I can't add more points to the board but hopefully I'll add some more scenery ;) The next 2 weeks should be pretty good fellas - Lets try to get all 10 members to put a buck on the board. It doesn't have to be a booner to win - just 10 solid deer. Of course if you're in a state that only allows 1 buck and ur holding out for that booner anyhow then we'll understand.... I mean we'll rib you relentlessly for the rest of the year... but we'll understand [&:]
Good Luck Team 24!!!! |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Wi, VT has a 3 week season....first weeks of Oct. Then we
have a week in Dec. I did shoot a Dec 8point a few years back, but the bucks are few and far between. You guys that pass on the small bucks make me chuckle.......we don't even see a small buck...;)Total deer kill in VT this year with the new regs. will be under 1000 state wide. Yes thats buck and doe together. I did not see a buck this year not even a BB. I hunt CT and had a buddy go down last week to check on a spot I hunt and there is a rub ten yards from the tree I climb. I'm hoping...... Haz, Good Luck....if my kids get a deer this weekend I will pass on a small buck next week. If not then anything goes......:D G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Put in for vacation on Friday, gonna head to CT. Probably work in the AM and make it an evening hunt tho... More vacation time to use next week. Still thinkin about where to go this weekend. ML season is in here and the CT season only goes until the 14th, but thats a good almost 2 weeks of prime time. I still have a couple spots in CT I haven't hunted yet... Good luck in CT G.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
G,
OMG. We kill over a 1000 deer a day in WI probably even during the week. They are estimating that this years kill could reach 500,000 gun and bow. We set a record (in think in 2001) for the nation with over 600,000 deer killed. Even beats anything TX can do. Some say the deer numbers are just not that high but if we can continue to kill almost half a MILLION deer gun and bow then there must be a lot out there. Factor in all the road kill and it is just crazy. DNR says the state total is about 1.7 million before the hunt. I know some will argue but I do think that is probably correct. Just most of them are in southwestern WI. Good luck to you guys. I will be heading out Friday (tomorrow) and should get to stand by 1:00. Then I will be hunting until Sunday night. Gonna try to sit in the stand all day. The rut will be going on good right now so I hope to have some pictures for you all Monday. |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Good Luck WI - bring home a horny one
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Well guys, tonight I take off for a week of hunting that will be split between Oneonta, NY and Bradford County, PA. Hopefully they will be moving despite the warms temps that are forecasted for the upcoming week. My season is over after this hunt, so hopefully I will get something to bring to the table for the team. Hopefully I will be able to do a quick update in the middle of the week if I can find access to the net.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Good luck Rick. I head out in just a bit. Gonna be a little warm here too but that will make sitting all day easier.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
5 more minutes here at work, then a small honey do list, then wolf down lunch, then the drive to CT for the afternoon stand. Wish me luck!
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Haz, I picked up the rubberneck today. I love the sound. I'll
try it out if I get a chance tomorrow with my daughter on our youth hunt. We shot today and she is holding a 3" group at 100yds. Not to bad for a 12 year old. Good luck Rick. When will you be hunting VT for rifle? Good luck RI. How is it looking for sign down there. I will be there on monday. Have you seen alot of turkeys. I still Have a tag.;) WI, my daughter is looking for a buck this year. I think we have one that has moved into our farm. Nice big track.......well see if she can hold out. Good luck G |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
G-
Good luck on the youth hunt. Went to my spot in Lebanon CTthis afternoon. I saw 5 turkeys, too far for a shot tho even if I did have tags. Wind was blowing pretty good, and the deer were pretty skittish. I saw about 15-16 deer throughout the evening, if any had horns I didn't see them. Most were way out of range. Just when I was about to climb down 2 does jumped the fence I was next to and stood broadside at about 40 yards, but they were skittish and it was getting pretty dark, so I passed. On my climb down, I noticed a deer silhouet right behind a tree I ranged at 24 yards. It didn't hang out long, lol. Probably won't get out again til Sun am, I'll hunt a little closer to home in RI, maybe a half hour away. I'll check out the CT spot again next week if I get a chance to take time off from work (wich is likely...) |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Things are going well on my week long southern Illinois hunt. I've finally located a few hotspots, now just have to narrow them down to THE spot. I rattled in a couple of decent bucks this evening. Seeing a lot of deer movement from 4pm to dark, even in the nearly 80 degree weather we're having today.
GOOD LUCK GUYS - SCORE BIG, SCORE SMALL, JUST SCORE !!! |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Well, I was really optomisitic about this afternoon, but no luck. I hunted CT today, wind was much worse than predicted, and I was afraid my tree might blow down at times with me in it... Had to be better than 40 mph winds. Bright side, I found an awesome spot to hang a stand, it looked really good, but just no movement today. All I saw was one doe about maybe 150 yards away along the field edge. I'm running out of time for scoring in CT. Maybe one more shot on Monday if the weather cooperates. I'll keep at it in RI though.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Sorry I haven't updated much...been hunting a lot while not working...saw a very impressive buck Saturday morning....But with the wind I couldn't get his attention to stop him while he browsed around the bank on the same flat that I was on. Definelty a 9...maybe a 10 depending on the other side of his rack. Will be trying again this afternoon.
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
![]() Had a great time down in southern Illinois. Check out this great big 11 point that was within 30 yards of my camper ;) Weighed over 250lbs and will score over 150. Too bad I can't enter my second buck :) |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Awesome buck HAZCON7! I'm taking off from work now to give the CT early season one last shot. Weather will be a little warm, but its gonna beat the miserable wind I had on Friday. Wouldn't you know that at this spot I've been hunting in RI that I haven't been seeing much action at, my friend who hooked me up with the property is just getting back into hunting. He went out for the first time in years with his ML on Sunday AM and a nice 8 walked right by him! He didn't get a shot, but heard a couple of shots shortly after and thinks it might have been at the same buck. Oh well... I'll keep hunting there and keep my fingers crossed...
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Just got back from CT. I knew that was a good spot to hang a stand, lol. When the sun started getting low, I saw 2 does off to my right and behind me, they didn't come in. They may have winded me. A few minutes later, I heard movement in a couple of different directions. One doe walked in on a trail that would have taken her under my stand, but she jumped the creek as I'd hoped (a little deer dander scent trail laid out to help me there) and walked the trail on the other side of the creek. She stopped at a tree I ranged right at 20 and gave me a nice broadside shot. I wanted to wait for the big boy, but I was losing light and that might have been my last shot at it. Here's where it gets not so good... I think I made a good shot, 15 minutes pass and I got down and checked out my arrow. Clean pass through, bright red blood on the vanes, lots of hair, but I didn't see any blood trail. I saw her cross the creek and run down the trail she came in on, so I packed up my gear, went back to the car, got my lantern, and came back 45 mins later (1 hour since the shot). I couldn't find any blood at all... so much for my muzzy 4 blade. I followed the trail for a while hoping I would find her piled up, but no such luck. Its my first bow shot deer btw... Its a pain in the butt, but I'm gonna take the 1.5 hr drive in the AM and hope I can find her. Wish me luck...
|
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
Nice buck Haz. It is too bad we can't enter the second one. Oh well at least someone is getting something.
RI that is too bad you hadn't found her yet. I hope you have and that you just haven't posted here yet. Don't really know what to say other then good luck. I have not had any luck yet. Very windy and raining lately. Going out this weekend for the gun opener and I will be taking the bow. I will probably sit with bow in the mornings and evenings and have the gun ready while I am at the cabin eating lunch and stuff. |
RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread
No joy in CT. Got my kid off to school today and skipped workto try and find that doe. Found one leaf with some blood on it and a few hairs about 50 yards from where I shot her, and nothing else. I looked for 5 hours. I quit at 2 when it started raining steady and heavy. I'll be kicking myself over this one for a while.
