RE: Official Team Fear This (24) Thread

Well I got out this weekend and filled a doe tag. I am earn a buck from Oct 27th to Nov 18th. So at least I got that out of the way. I will be looking for the big boys now. I putup a new stand in a spot I have always wanted one. I see bucks chasing does there every Nov and have never found the right tree. Last year I did but I broke this stupid leg before I could get one set up there. Well now I do and I am ready.

Going out again this weekend I hope. My son and I got my girlfriends son involved in this.He is 15 and just starting out. Got him a Hoyt MT Sport and he is good out to 20 yards on deer (30 to 40 on targets). He didn't get a shot this past weekend but my son did. He is on team 14 so they will be on the board as soon as he gets it entered. It was a seven pointer but I don't know if all the points are scoreable. We will find out soon.

Hey everyone, just thought i would give an update. Archery season here in Illinois started Oct. 1st. I went out that morning to my stand, and didnt see a thing....THIS DANG HEAT!! Anyways, me and my father went out again that night, and we each saw a doe with a fawn. From my description compared to his it was a different doe and a different fawn. So my opening day was rather boring. Sunday morning we went out and it was rather still for me again, saw another doe and a fawn, different from the first, but probably the same one my father saw because they made there way over to his stand again. There was however one bright side to the day when my father came over the radio and told me there was a huge buck out in the pasture both of our stands border. Well he only got a quick look at the buck at around 130 yards and then tried to radio me and hit the wrong button and his radio messed up. So he looked down, shut the radio off and turned it back on to tell me, and he couldnt find the buck again...He kept tellin me how huge it was and said it looked to be either a 14 or 16 point typical with tons of mass. After about an hour he didnt see it again, and it was somewhat disappointing that I never saw it and he only got a quick glance at it. But then when I was about ready to get down from my stand aroun 10:00am, he came back over the radio and told me the deer was there again. He said it must have bedded down in the tall pasture. He got a real good look at it, and said it was actually either a 12 or 14 pointer, but he said it did have tons of mass. He said it just sat there for a couple minutes and trotted back into the cornfield. So we stayed out a little longer, but eventually had to leave because the heat was horrible. Anyways, we went back out that night only for me to see nothing and him to see that same doe and fawn....Pretty boring, and I went out this morning and also saw a doe and fawn but nothing else....oh well
Word is though, that a cold front is coming my way for the end of the week, so I hope to actually see some movement. Sorry about the length, but just fillin you guys in.

Hey guys, now that we are seeing some bucks on the board I thought this might be a good time to ask everyone on Team Fear This to Please Please Please make sure you follow all the rules of this contest... for example, have your bow in the picture with your buck, with the tag, preferably not in the back of a truck.
That way, when we win this competition, we can put a big asteriks by our title that reads, "100% Compliant!"

Seeing some of thesefloating heads and pickup truck bed pictures quite frankly turn my stomach. Lets show these guys that you can still follow the rules and have a good time and WIN!!!

Hazcon I couldn't agree more. It is very easy to take a picture in the field or even in the grass at home. Hanging by the head or hind legs is about the only thing worse then the back of the truck. I don't know how willing they are going to be to take pictures without the bow. Seems to me one of them already could run into problems with that. I am going to watch and see where that ends up.

Vogt I know what you mean about the heat. This weekend should be much better for hunting. Good luck to you and everyone the Team Fear This.

Tried to get out and check the trail cam's this weekend but didn't get time...so it looks like Friday will be the next opportunity to get some pic's. I have done some scouting as the weather has been back and forth for two weeks now. Some days it's 70 degrees, then the next it's 80. Alittle rain comes through and the temps are down in the low 60's. Weird for this time of year, but this weekend the temp's are back down in the low 60's, and the extended forecast show's the temps staying around 70.

The archery opener is Oct 15, so I will be out squirrel hunting Saturday. Hopefully I will get some good pic's, and I will be ready for opener. I don't have to earn a doe, so I'm looking for the buck's. :D

And I totally agree with the pic's.....look for all my pic's to be in the field, with the bow. No pick up truck pic's, or hanging in the building.

So you guys that are already into season keep us posted.....and goodluck getting us on the board. I think the first score is the hardest to get so I hope you guys get it before the 15th.

Was in the woods this morning surrounded by deer - what a great feeling. Saw a total of 9 deer not counting the ones passing by in the dark that I couldn't see but could clearly hear. 5 of them were bucks. At 6:40am I had 2 small bucks sparring 10yrds away while a bigger but small buck tore up a little tree. Did a little scouting on the way out and saw the area littered with scrapes and rubs. Not bad for the first time hunting this particular stand in a new area.
How are you guys doing?

I am up in Vermont this weekend, and was planning on hunting but it is absolutely pouring outside. I have to go pull a stand from up here in Vermont that I plan to move to my property in PA, so weather depending I may hunt tomorrow morning and then pull the stand after the hunt. Otherwise I won't be back in the woods until the weekend of the 22nd, when I plan to hunt in PA again. I hope to hit up central NY the Haloween weekend following that.

Got some trail cam film back....got several pic's of does, a nice gobbler, and a 8pt at two differnt locations. I will work on scanning the pic's tonight and hopefully post them.

I also got to put in some new film, set up a new area with a ladder stand, and got most everything ready for next Saturday(15). Had a great day in the woods today as well as I took my fiance out squirrel hunting and got to be with her when she shot her first squirrel. :)

Well I might end up paying for this later but...

I've been hunting my open field area from the ground, no blind really, just either sitting in the corn or in some weeds. Last Saturday evening I had a nice 6pt within 10 feet then perfectly broadside and unaware at 15 yards. Seconds later I saw a much large buck enter the field about 100 yards away. Seconds later yet, I had a 3rd buck come in from behind me again within 10 feet then gave me the broadside at 15 yards. I'm holding out for bigger since its still just the beginning of the season....
Fast forward to today >>>
I had 5 bucks within shooting distance this morning, again not the right size.
Then this evening, back at the open field area, I had 2 of the same previous 3 bucks again at 10 yards.

Last year I couldn't pay to get close to a big buck after October. I sure hope I don't have the same problem again this year.
So... I might end up paying for this later but.... It sure was fun! :)[8D]

I got out some this weekend again but no bucks. Saw 6 does Saturday evening and nothing else. I took my girlfriends son out and he saw 16 does that night. Got off a shot but went over the back. He was so pumped up I think had he hit it he would have fallen out of the tree. It was worth it just to see his excitement. Not sure when I will get back out. It is looking like the weekend of the 22nd for me too. Maybe some of the big boys will be getting hot by then. Can always hope.
