Once "Official" Teams are picked.

On Sept 15th we'll close the contest for new entries and I'll draw for teams. ( Though some seasons will be started there is a chance a entry could harvest already and that's fine, it'll go to the lucky team it's drawn for)...Any new entry after the 15th will go onto the alternate list and will remain there unless there are not even teams until Oct 15th when alternates will take the place of any NO SHOWs up til that point. This gives all who enter a chance to let the team they are on to post to there official thread......we'll run it the best we can like last year but be patient I think this one is going to be bigger....

Once teams are picked I'll spend the time to make "Official Team" threads and teams can get together to come up with names etc.......

Good luck to everyone again this year.....

Any other suggestions....

I suggest an online auction to see who is going to be the lucky team to get me. We can donate the money towards all the high fence hunts I plan on going on next year.

My opinion is Sept 15 is too late for cutoff. It would be nice to meet your teamates and get aquainted and settled in before the archery season starts. I say Aug.31 for deadline. Of Course do what you want to do, your the boss.

I agree with tribal. My season starts Sept 18th. I will be in the woods often from there on. Most guys will be huntin not on the puter! He's right your the boss!!!!!;):D:D

There is usually more than one person that signs up for the contest and never checks in or even comes back. Alternates are put into the spots of these people who can't seem to make a commitment.[:@]

The teams are picked after Sept.15, About how long does it take to pick teams? The reason for the question is I'll be bear hunting the last week of Sept. and baiting the weekend leading up to. I don't want to be a no-show.:)

yeah it would be a good idea imo that we start before the season. the season starts sept the 3rd in ky and i'm hunting that weekend and i think a couple of others are too. it would be better to get it out of the way since some people might not be around a computer that time.

Washington state archery season begins September 1st, I dislike the idea of drawing teams after someone's season has already begun.

Please explain what constitues a "no show." Are you saying that if a person or team hasn't posted a buck kill by Oct 15th they'll be dropped for an alternate? Iowa's bow season doesn't start untilOct 1st, and runs until Jan 10th.

Rob,

I have to agree with the others and not only for the reason listed. Even if half are no shows there could very well be over a thousand members signed up if you leave the signups open for 2 full months. I would think something shorter in duration may be more practical but then since you are running it the workload is primarily your call.

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

I tend to agree with everyone on this deadline you came up with,The end of august at the latest would be much better for everyone. You want to pick the teams, get to know your teammates, and get a little SMACK talk in before season opens just to get things rolling.Besides most posts made last year was just that ,SMACK talk, all in fun of course. When season opens alot of guys aren't on the computer as much, there out in the field.

driftrider----what they are trying to say is ,when a team is picked of 10 people ,we have till the 15th of october to "make an appearance"as you will.It really wouldent be fair for say 10 teams of 10 people and 1 team of 6 people. All the deer scored per team is added together in inches to declair the winners of the contest.
Some guys and ladies will sign up for the contest, and come time for the games to begin they just plain forgot about hunting.net and the contest all together.Rob wants the deadline to be september 15th,anyone signing up after that date will become an alternate.
Say you are on a team and only 9 guys "signed in" on your team by October 15th,an alternate who wants to play, but never made the deadline of signing up before the teams were picked will be placed on your team, making a team of 10 guys .
I hope this helped and cleared a few things up:)

What difference does it make? It's not like if a person who's season opens early gets a kill, Rob will put that person on say, his own team for the points..:)
They will be placed by random drawing like everyone else, and I don't see what it matters.

So you're basically saying that once the teams are posted, each team member has to basicallysay "here" to acknowledge that they are still in the competition, but not that they have to shoot a deer by the deadline?

I like Tibal's idea of August 31st deadline. In KY we open on the 3rd of September. It would be nice to have things tied down and ready to go on the first opening day.

Just acknowledge you are on the team by posting in your team thread once and a while:)
No-----you dont have to shoot a deer on the mentioned deadline. The contest will run till January or feb I think. If you shoot a buck"archery" then it will have to be posted ANYTIME during the contest.

The whole contest is based around team camaraderie and smack talk. I would not even bother to enter the contest if I was hunting before I got to know my team and throw some smack. What would be the point? I don't believe the contest's emphasis is on a harvested buck so much as the experience of the contest. That's just my take on it. Take it for what it's worth.

When did he pick teams last year? Seems it was earlier but I might be wrong. Sept 15 is opening day here. I'm with the others & think it might play out better to pick teams on Aug 31. But, who the heck am I!:)

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

Our bow season starts September 2nd. I agree it would be nice if the dead line was Aug 31st but that is up to Rob or the site. If Tyler or Iget a buck before the deadline, we just won't tell until then to keep the suspense for everyone. :D It really shouldn't matter but would seem totake some of the fun of drawing teams if you know a few whohave already taken bucks. Also they won't likely post much about their hunts... successful or not until they are on a team. I got a big kick out of reading others post ( my team and other teams ) hunt reports. That iswhat makes the contest really interesting and why I like it so well. The contestisn't just about winning although I wouldn't complain about that either. The smack talk is priceless!!! Hopefully someday buckeye and Fieldmouse can figure out how to do it!!

No matter what happens, I am looking forward to the contest. Goodluck to everyone.

Tim

Another wish for the deadlines to be earlier but the real point of my post is to empahsize to people to not be ashamed of or think your buck won't matter if you shoot a small one. PLEASE if you shoot a buck, regardless of size, ENTER IT! This contest isn't about big bucks only, it recognizes everyone's inches. No buck is too small. Also keep in mind the submittal procedures as far as pictures and such go. Consider this as you take to the field, be prepared.
So everyone have fun, talk some smack, and be safe out there this fall.

mobow 07-22-2005 07:34 AM

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

buckeye, I see what you are saying, and I agree. But, can't you still talk "smack" after the deadline? If there's nothing riding on the contest other than bragging rights, I just don't see what difference it makes. Just my two cents as well.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that Rob does an outstanding job of running this thing. Let's not complicate it. ;)

I think the shifted deadline complicates things. Last year's team posting date was perfect. Why make it a month and a half later?
I would like to get to know my team members as well -long before I'm concentrating on hunting.

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-22-2005 01:16 PM

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

Okay, the official deadline will then be August 31'st and and I'll have teams drawn by Sept 15th or much quicker like Sept 1st if I can get at it..and I will...at that point team capt's will have until Oct first to contact all members when we start adding alternates........[&:]

PS....a NO SHOW is someone who doesn't check into there team posts and let us all know they are participating....we can't assume someone who posts once or twice and says they are in is still with us cyberwise.....if your committed to this contest, do everyone especially your team the courteousy of checking in....when time applies..;)

Good deal Rob. That will be much better closing the signups then. Heck there might even be a ton of folks by that date. My initial thinking was Aug 15 for cutoff.

I have a feeling it will be quite a big list and huge undertaking for you. I hope it all goes as smoothly as it can....thanks for taking it on. Let us know what we can do to help you :D

I suggest making the team threads sticky so that you dont have to scan through all the numbers to find your thread.

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-26-2005 08:05 AM

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

BC, once the team threads are created I'll do my best to keep nonsense posts out, locked etc as I had last year...it helps but pinning all of them to the top will make new posts appear on page 2 or even 3....so at least for the begining, we'll leave the team posts as is...if they are active, the'll be on the first page anyway.....

B&C Wanna B 07-26-2005 01:50 PM

I'm not real good with the puter. can you tell me how I post a picture and a score card. Do I just check the box that says embed picture in post and put the pic on my scanner and it will post automaticly?

T_in_PA3 08-08-2005 12:55 PM

RE: Once "Official" Teams are picked.

Rob,

A suggestion - Make a rules thread and lock it so it cannot be repliedby anyone other than yourself. Any changes that we need to be notified about post them under that thread and only post rules or anything else teams need to know there. It gets really difficult wading through all the other topics& posts trying to figure out what to do.

Thanks
