How far can the range be with a 1:48 twist using a conical and a full charge? What is a full charge? 100?
My state, Idaho, may be is switching to new regulations for ML hunting one of the new rules is the projectile must be all lead and 10/1000 of bore diameter. Becuae of this I am now shooting full bore conicals with open sights.
I have been doing a lot of shooting with both Bull Shop and No Excuses 460 grain conicals. I never in the world thought I would shoot bullet that big and that slow, but rules are rules.
I have really been impressed with these two projectiles. I am shooting two different TC guns, one is a concockution... I have a fast twist 1/28 twist GM LRH SS barrel now mounted in a Renegade stock and I have a real Renegade with a short 27" 1/48 twist barrel. I expected the the 1/28 to shoot the conicals well and I was experimenting with the 1/48 because I did not think it would stabilize that long of a bullet... ah gees... does Colorado have the 2 times the bore rule? If it does the 460 will not work, but Bull Shop makes a 400 grain that will. Anyway the 1/48 shoots right along with the GM barrel. I feel I have really been fortunate as I can set clay pigeons up at various ranges from 75 to 120 (that is the farthest) I have tried this and pick them off. Have to change the hold slightly but not that much. The conical is not a flat shooter but it really does better than I ever thought it would.
I shoot 90 grains of T7-3f in the GM barrel and 80 grains in the TC Renegade. I do not know if I mentioned these are both 50 cal barrels. I am really happy with these. There are a few post in the forum that I have posted that show what I have been doing. If you would like to see let me know and I will find them for you.
Under or IN the right circumstances and especially at an elk - I would not hestistate a 150 yard shot... the energy and accuracy isthere...
Here is a ballistic chart for my guns... I think this is from the 1/28 twist barrel it is longer and gives me a bit more velocity + it is shooting 90 grains vs 80...
