Some extra notes on Hevi shot.
In the winter 2002 edition of Turkey and Tukey hunting magazine there was a good discussion on Hevi Shot. The author stated that Hevi shot has a Rockwell hardness in excess of gun barrel steel. After firing 450 shots he noticed that the Hevi shot will leave scores and streaks in forcing cones, barrels and chokes. Risking to shoot out the barrel was a trade for increased performance in his opinion. Also the article stated that a Remington factory representative stated that a traditional modified choke (must be able to shoot steel) will result with a 88% pattern where as the .675 Hevi Shot choke patterns at 92%. I'm sure that an 88% pattern is more than enough to drop a bird at 35 yards. Something else to look into?
