X-fisherman--- That's a good choice in both rifle & caliber. I got my Model 700 in 06 back in 1973--- It has never let me down & never has given me a problem. I suggest you also put a good scope on it. A 4x Leupold would be good.

I suggest that you throw a Winchester, Ruger, And Remington all up to your shoulder. See which one feels the best to you, then buy it. They are all good guns.
