Default Turkey Hunting On Windy Days?

Okay, so here's a little something that I've heard two sides to.

We went out yesterday to pattern my shotgun with 3" shells and it was a bit windy (okay, about a 25 mile per hour crosswind). The gun was patterning horribly at 30'ish yards. At first we thought that it may have been just the shells (moving down from 3 and half inch to 3 inch). So, we loaded up some 3 and a half and got the same result.

I can understand some drop off, but it was horrible. Now, with me being still extremely new to hunting in general, should there be that much drop off when windy? If so, do you still hunt on really windy days? With no wind, my gun patterns like a dream. Yesterday was making me second guess it.

Sorry for the stupid question, but I have to know before potentially wasting my time on a windy day. Thanks.
