I would get your hands on as many turkey videos and books as possible. go to Cabelas or Bass Pro or Gander Mountain....they always have their calls out on display to try. Try out the different calls and see what kind works best for you. From there, I would start scouting about a month before. Find out 1) where the birds roost 2) where they fly down 3) where they feed and 4) where the toms like to strut.

I would recommend H.S Cut'n Strutt'n 11. This is a kick a$$ video with awesome hunts and I think someone could learn a thing or two from it.
