When you ask if it will work, do you mean kill? If so, yes. But so will many other high powered rifles that don't recoil quite as much for repeated shooting. If you are looking for one rifle to do everything, such as varmint, target, and big game hunting, the .270 will shine, however, you can kill any of the above animals with a .223 or .22-250 without really feeling it at the end of the day.
