30/06 in a Rem 700 with great glass AND good iron sights with a set of high quality quick detachable mounts/rings. And oh yeah, a real nice sling.
Many other choices I'd personally pick for myself, but for the average Joe to hunt in as many places as possible......the above would serve very well.
