It will work just fine as long as you can handle the gun. In reality the 3006 is more then you need for deer but you don't see to many say that do you??? Just don't get caught up in the faster is better thing unless you need it, as many do. By thisI mean if your going to be hunting deer where 100 or underyard shot is normal and 200 yard is on the long side of things no need to load up 150 gr bullets or rapid expansion bullets. This is where many make mistakes, then they blame the chambering or the bullet. Match your situation with the proper bullet and go hunt deer. If its time to tackle something bigger again match the bullet to the application and go hunting. Thats the beauty of owning a cartridge that is multi purpose
