I use XTP's of the same weight at 100yds the poi is only about 1.5 or less differance and grouping is also close to the same and their is quite a bit of differance in the price; actually I prefer the XTP or Gold Dot for short to medium range and always load SW if I might have to shoot over 150yd.
I am now checking on some rainer bullets which are a copper plated lead bullet which look very interesting to me as I think that for hi-speed say over 2000 fps a flat point round nose may be good for better penatration, I will get some and try them this spring if they look good to me I will post some info. Lee, Can you provide a link to the Rainer bullets? They sound very very interesting. The Speer .454 Causkill is a soft point Unicore, same as the Gold Dot, so they are going to fly a bit further than a flat point and because of the Unicore will hold together well. They shoot the same for me as Gold Dots or XTPs and are about the same price. Here is what some ML shooter at Midway said aboutSpeer Unicore .454 Causkill(I have not verified this, nor do I know the person that said it).
