I think you're OK as-is Skeeter, in fact, a gun cabinet isn't even required if you can keep the door of the room they are stored in locked. Obviously they must be unloaded, personally I keep all my ammo locked in a separate box, away from my gun cabinet.

For anyone that is genuinely worried about these things there is no excuse not to join the Canadian Firearms Association (CFA). Membership is inexpensive, and they are actively fighting to protect our civil rights.
