If all you found was a bit of hair but found him dead, then where did you end up hitting him? Opening day of winter firearms last January I was out hunting in the evening with my friend and he took a small buck. I heard both of his shots with his Beretta autoloader with 3" 00 buck and the deer fell over dead where he shot it but when we cleaned, skinned, and butchered it we found no wounds on the animal at all! Could be another case like that?
