Default RE: 6 X 284 VERSUS 6.5 X 284

ORIGINAL: HEAD0001

I was all set to order a custom 6.5 X 284 barrel for my Encore. Now I am considering the 6 X 284 as well(Roskoe started me on the 6 X 284). Rifle will be used mostly for ground hogs out to 500 yards. Possibly some deer hunting. Recoil is not a factor(I also shoot some 300's for ground hogs). Any experiences? Any information I might need? Thanks, Tom.
The 6X284 is the better choice for pure varmint shooting, and the 6.5 would serve for game larger than deer as well. Both are quite accurate.

Not too many years back, a young woman (Michelle M Gallagher) won the 1,000-yard Wimbledon Cup match at Camp Perry with a fast-twist 6mmX284 firing long, heavy bullets......
