I was all set to order a custom 6.5 X 284 barrel for my Encore. Now I am considering the 6 X 284 as well(Roskoe started me on the 6 X 284). Rifle will be used mostly for ground hogs out to 500 yards. Possibly some deer hunting. Recoil is not a factor(I also shoot some 300's for ground hogs). Any experiences? Any information I might need? Thanks, Tom.
The 6X284 is the better choice for pure varmint shooting, and the 6.5 would serve for game larger than deer as well. Both are quite accurate.
