store bough stands are nice and last a very long time, but i mainly make ladder stands out of 2x4's and some plywood. or i hang some steps in a tree and build a little platform big enough for me to sit on. either way all ideas are good and shooting from an elevated position does eliminate some of the problems with stray bullets
If I were a land owner granting permission to others to hunt my land, permanent standsnailed to trees that would be rotten in a few years (and my problem to remove)would be theLAST thing I would allow. A climbing stand or the free standing blind I posted have very little to zero impact to the land. Plus if you have to move or the land you hunt is sold to someone who won't allow you to hunt, the time and money you spent on building a permanent wooden stand isn't wasted. You just take these mobile stands with you. You could also do a ladder stand that straps around a tree at the top. I have the previous versionof theclimbing stand posted above and I love it! It's light, the seat warmand if we see/hear deer moving on one side of the property vs. another, you aren't limited to where you have pre-existing stands. I almost always have luck finding a treewith no branches to climb. That platform blind would be good if you are hunting a field or thetrees are too small.
