sproulman, My friends and I just hunted. I don't know what the difference was with those dogs, but when I lived in San Diego we had lot of warm weather. Training in 80 degrees or more was common. Come the dove opener the dogs had already been exposed to plenty of heat. We also hunted on the Colorado River. The dogs would take care of themselves. If they got hot, they went for a dip. The heat was never really a big problem for us. Hunting quail and pheasant was also common in high temps. I think it was just the norm. We hunted a Chessie and two black labs and the dogs would out last the people.
