The 7MM-08 has a good deal less recoil than the 270 as does the 6.5x55, 260, and 25-06. Where the 270 has about 16.5 lbs recoil, the others I listed have about 12 lbs or a little less. In my search for a gun with good down range power and limited recoil, the 7mm-08 won the contest follwed closely by the 6.5x55. The 6.5 has the least recoil but the 7mm-08 delivers a little more energy and has a little heavier bullets available.

This said, a poor trigger seems to me to be one of the biggest causes of flinching. However if shooting a caliber is no longer fun, then why stay with it.
