RE: Gun Hunting
I love to hunt. Gun, bow, big game, small game I just love to be in the woods. Love to fish too. I guess I can say I'm a sportsman and have been since I was a yougin'. I'm 55 now. Anyway I'd have to say that although gun season is fun in it's own way Idefinately prefer the bow season. A lot of you have said it's harder but that hasn't been my experience. I've been much more successfull with the bow over the years than I have with the gun. Certainly when it comes to shooting the deer, the gun has it hands down in advantages over the bow but the shooting isn't the entire game. To start with, bow season is much longer here. As a rule, in a given season, Ihave far more opportunities within effective bow range during bow season than I have within effective shot gun range during gun season. In the last 20 years there hasn't been a single year that I haven't been able to harvest a buck with bow and most of those years I've passed on several smaller buck earlier in the season. That hasn't been the story in gun season. Though I usually get 1maybe 2good opportunities there have been a number of seasons where I've been shut out and a few where I never saw an antler during the entire season. Around here, if you don't score the first or second day of shot gun season, it gets really tough really fast.
Anyway, in short I guess my point is that it has been my experience that all things considered, it's actually easier to get a deer (buck or doe)with the bow. That iswhere I live anyway, don't know how I'd fare some place else. In short, I'd be surprised if I wasn't able to score with the bow but I wouldn't be surprised if Iwasn't able toscore with the gun.
