Well today was the start of the two day youth hunt here in Ohio so I took the nephew out today. Well we got off to a rough start cause when I pulled into his drive to get him the house was totally dark! That only meant one thing, he was still asleep! After beating on the door my brother comes to the door in his underwear half dazed wanting to know why I was knocking on his door at five thirty in the morning, he then realized why I was there. Well we got to my spot where my game came is and we started to walk back to our blind, four does already out and we could not make it to the blind, still dark but the blaze orange probably made us glow! So now I am a little upset but we get into the blind and sit. About 8:30 we see three deer go into the far side of the woods, about ten min later we see the little six pointer go in after them with his nose to the ground. I told him to hold tight and the buck could run them out. About 9:15 I see my nice nine pointer coming at us that I have never seen in person and I will admit I was a little jealous! But he only came about 150 yards and then turned and went into the woods too. A half hour later one came out and was making its way to us and gave my nephew a nice fifty yard shot. He was a button buck and I told my nephew if he wanted him to take him so he did! He put a nice bow style lung shot on him and the deer walked around a little then laid down. I assumed it was a done deal since I could see the deer down and told him that we should wait fifteen min to make sure. We waited and then get out of blind to get him, get within thirty yards and he lifts his head up and runs!! I thought for sure he was dead! I told my nephew not to worry since I seen the lung hole and we would have to go back to blind and wait. We waited one hour, which was painful for him, but he made it and then found the deer not thirty yards from where we jumped him up. He is fourteen and this is his third deer I have set him up on!! A good morning. The only thing that sucked was the half mile drag out!!!
