In the thick stuff, especially when your virtually setting right up on a big buck...and his travel routes...get up HIGH..ridge top saddles are sweet for this blowing the wind in what ever direction out over trees, by the time scent reaches the forest floor its a good distance from those trails you expect him on... I set up 25 feet or higher in situations like this. I have one particular stand in almost an exact carbon copy type scenario of which you are speaking..and I ironically I plan on sitting there tonight...rattling with the last 40 minutes or so of daylight..either that or I will be on the ground in Ole yellers neck of the woods tonight.. I have a good blind in there...great for calling. the evening thermals should work in my favor for this set up.. you need to be in there on him..he may answer a call too.
