You could try removing the barrel assembly from the stock. Wrap it in a soft cloth then put it in a vice between two hunks of pine lumber. Then try a proper socket and see if it will break free. If not, you may have to resort to a little heat applied to the breech plug area to free it up. Be careful and go easy on the heat. A hair dryer might be enough.
